~ Lynch rationalizing his sexual abuse of his adopted sons |
Stewart Lynch is a supporting antagonist of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Angels". He is a member of a pedophile ring that smuggles young boys into the U.S. from Latin American countries and "adopts" them so they can sexually abuse them.
He was portrayed by Patrick Cassidy.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Lynch is a pediatric surgeon who treats 10-year-old Ernesto Diaz and his friend Jose, the adoptive sons of his friend and fellow pedophile Brett Jansen.
He was also a customer of Anthony Damon, who arranged sex tours for him to rape children. He also made a deal with Damon to sell him three boys from Ecuador, whom he passed off as his adopted sons. Lynch sexually abused all three boys, but convinced himself that he loved them as his own children and that he was not "forcing" them to have sex with him.
"Angels"[]
When Jansen is surgically castrated and murdered, Detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler of the NYPD's Special Victims Unit question Lynch, who says he barely knew Jansen, and that he was in surgery at the time of Jansen's murder.
When Benson and Stabler discover that Jansen is part of a pedophile ring, they learn from Ernesto that Lynch treated him and Jose. They suspect Lynch of killing Jansen, as he has the medical expertise needed to surgically remove a person's genitals. During the ensuing investigation, Stabler tells Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Cabot that SVU already has proof that Lynch failed to report Jose's abuse, but Cabot says that that the offense is a Class "A" misdemeanor, which would likely earn Lynch no more than a fine.
After discovering Damon's child trafficking ring, Benson and Stabler search Lynch's house and find him watching a videotape of himself raping a boy, and they arrest him on the spot. While Stabler and Cabot interrogate him, Lynch tells them that Damon arranged for him to adopt the boys. He insists that he did not hurt the children and agrees to give up Damon in return for a more lenient sentence, as well give up other clients of the ring. He also once again denies killing Jansen, reminding them that he was in surgery at a hospital in at Rochester, an alibi that is confirmed by witnesses. Lynch's cooperation leads to Benson, Stabler, and Detectives John Munch and Fin Tutuola arresting of the other members of the pedophile ring, including Walt Massey, who murdered Jansen for "ruining it for the rest of us".
Lynch, meanwhile, is imprisoned for sexually abusing his three adopted sons and for committing several other child rapes in other countries.
