Prince Stolas of the Ars Goetia is the deuteragonist of the adult animated black comedy web series Helluva Boss.
He was a powerful demon prince and a member of the Ars Goetia, a royal family in Hell's hierarchy. Stolas is the former owner of the Grimoire that I.M.P used to access the living world to their assassination job. Blitzo, a peer Stolas knew during one day from childhood and CEO of I.M.P, had sex with Stolas to retrieve the book and was allowed to keep the book under Stolas' condition that Blitzo sleep with him every time there's a full moon. He was later sentenced into exile for the next hundred years, losing his power and status.
In the pilot, he was voiced by Brock Baker, who also voiced the Ohio Demon in the aforementioned pilot, Eduardo in Eddsworld, Bill Cosby in Animeme, The Eggsterminator in Dr. Monster and Banh-mi in Oishi: Highschool Battle. In the show, he is voiced by Bryce Pinkham as an adult, and by Leander Lewis as a child.
Appearance[]
Stolas is an incredibly tall owl-like Goetic demon, almost twice as tall as Blitzo, but also incredibly thin and lanky. He always wears expensive-looking clothes that befit a nobleman of Hell. He has four eyes, two placed where one would expect eyes to be and two over those. Oddly, should he wear a hat, the upper pair of eyes appear on the hat's brim. Occasionally, when startled or angered, his lower two eyes gain a pair of small white pupils. Strange enough, after being banished, his pupils stayed, and didn’t go away.
His human disguise is still very tall and thin, with grey hair and red eyes, with red-lensed sunglasses replacing the second set of eyes. His clothing in this form looks expensive and outdated, but not as foppish as how he dresses in his usual form.
His full demon form, taken when he becomes angry or enraged, is a horrific shadow-like owl monster with blood-red eyes and highlights. When wounded, it is shown his blood is thick and black-colored, like all hell born demons.
Personality[]
In the non-canon pilot, Stolas displayed very sadistic behavior as he expressed his desire for mass death on Earth to Blitzo, while making aggressively perverted statements towards him, making Blitzo so uncomfortable to the point where he destroyed his cell phone. However, once the series developed, while Stolas still displayed his perverted behavior to the point of making Blitzo uncomfortable, it was significantly turned down and he was changed to be far more loving and caring. He is also far less murderous and sadistic, however, he still supplies Blitzo with his Grimoire in exchange for sex so Blitzo can use it to carry out his assassinations on Earth.
A running gag throughout the show is Stolas’ sexual remarks towards Blitzo being bleeped out, only to showcase how fowl-mouthed he truly is whenever discussing sex with Blitzo. Despite seemingly looking down on imps general, given he refers to Millie and Moxxie as “little ones” and also squeezes his butler imp when under stress from his ex-wife, Stella, he holds a special place in his heart for Blitzo, due to him being his first friend from childhood, as well as his first crush. It’s also possible he simply looks down on imps like Millie and Moxxie for being smaller imps compared to Blitz.
Stolas is also shown to be a loving father. Unlike his neglectful and abusive father, Paimon, Stolas deeply cares for his daughter, Octavia. He sang her lullabies when she was a child and was enraged by Blitzo when she stole the Grimoire under Blitzo’s nose to go to Earth. Nevertheless, he tends to baby her occasionally and is not always aware of how to handle their relationship. A good example is when he takes her to “Loo-Loo Land” to ease the tension surrounding his fight with Stella, despite Octavia admitting she is too old for the place. Even then, he does admit to his own faults to her, which temporarily rekindles their relationship. However him hiding his own despair from Octavia and ultimately (in Octavia's mind) choosimg Blitz over her, caused Octavia to resent Stolas and (as of right now) break of her relationship with him.
While Stolas may claim not to have looked down on Blitzo during their breakup, it does not help his case that in the past, he has referred to him as his “impish little plaything” while also insinuating that he doesn’t see him as a real demon when possessing Agent Two.
Biography (Non-Canon)[]
Stolas first appears in the Helluva Boss Pilot where it is revealed that Blitzo had slept with him in exchange for his Grimoire so he could use it to access the living world and complete his assassinations. At one point, Stolas calls Blitzo and requests that he murder a political candidate who is advocating against global warming, knowing doing so would lead to many deaths. He then makes various perverted remarks towards Blitzo until the latter destroys his phone, puts in a blender, gives it to his daughter, Loona, to drink, and requests she shit off a bridge.
Biography (Canon)[]
Early Life[]
Stolas grew up in the Goetia family with Paimon as his father. According to his father, Stolas had so many siblings that Paimon did not even know Stolas’ name. It is also implied that his siblings are not of the same species as him. On one of Stolas’ birthdays when he was a child, Paimon supplied the young owlet with his Grimoire so he could study the prophecies of the stars. Stolas is overjoyed but is then saddened when Paimon announces his arranged engagement to Stella, so they may produce a precautionary heir to the throne. Not wanting to deal with Stolas, Paimon decides to take him to the circus for the day.
Stolas and his servant arrive while Paimon observes the circus through a magic mirror. Stolas is still unmoved by the show until Blitzo swings to the center stage alongside his friend, Fizzoroli. Stolas is quickly smitten by the young imp’s charm, and is the only one to laugh at the latter’s joke regarding his failed attempt at making a balloon horse. Paimon takes note of this, and arranges for Blitzo’s father, Cash, to have Blitzo stay with them for a day so his son can have a playmate and Paimon won’t have to deal with him himself. However, unbeknownst to the Goetia, Cash convinces Blitzo to steal items from their castle for money.
Blitzo meets Stolas, who bows to Blizo in respect, though is scolded by his father for doing so as its meant to be the other way round. Stolas introduces Blitzo to his various books. However, Blitzo becomes quickly bored and manipulates Stolas into helping him steal the royal family's treasures so he can throw them out the window to his father, Cash. Despite using Stolas, Blitzo does seem to enjoy his time with him, and the two discuss what they plan to do when they grow up. Stolas introduces him to his Grimoire and Blitzo talks about his plans to have a big office for his circus, and even offers to hire the prince if he applies.
Twenty years later, Stolas marries Stella, and had a daughter named Octavia, who remained the best thing in Stolas' otherwise unhappy life in his marriage to Stella-so much so that he took antidepressants. Stella was abusive to him both on a physical and mental level, however he stayed with for Octavia. He loved his daughter dearly, and would sing to her at night when she'd have nightmares. One night during a party, his security guards told him Blitzo was trying to sneak in. He tells them he can handle it from here. Unaware of Blitzo’s goal to steal the Grimore, Stolas mistook it for sexual purposes. Eventually, Blitzo manages to seduce and tie up Stolas, but ends up having sex with him out of pity as Stolas keeps talking about how he had been looking forward to doing so with him. Blitzo steals the book afterwards but falls out of the bedroom when trying to escape and lands in front of Stella, apologizing to her for “fucking her husband”. Stella screams at Stolas who rips off a banner and announces he's divorcing her. However, in spite of this, they remained married due to Stella's refusal to leave.
"Murder Family"[]
Stolas calls Blitzo as he is being attacked by one of his hits, Martha, and phones about a request he has as he is in his bathtub. Blitzo asks him to make it quick due to his life being in danger, and Stolas coerces Blitzo into a deal where he'll let him keep the Grimoire in exchange for returning it to the demon prince on the full moon and having sex with him. Blitzo hesitantly agrees as he's preoccupied with escaping Martha, and Stolas begins making sexually inappropriate remarks, not knowing that Blitzo is being kidnapped, and continues to do so even after the imp drops his phone.
"Loo Loo Land"[]
Stolas and Stella are arguing about Stolas’ affair with Blitzo. Stolas decides to spend some time with Octavia, she books a trip to Loo Loo Land , and hires I.M.P. as bodyguards.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Petrifying gaze: Stolas can project a red light by his eyes that instantly petrify the victim.
- Demonic transformation: Stolas can swipe to a more powerful, intimidating and monstrous form or disguise himself and others as human.
- Creation of Portals: Stolas, both using his powers and his grimoire, can create portals that grant him to travel everywhere he want.
- Demonic magic: As a royal of hell and a Goetia Prince, Stolas is one of the most powerful demons, and is confirmed to be more powerful than every demon and only below the Seven Deadly Sins and probably Paimon.
- Interferences: During the 6 episode "Truth Seekers", Stolas was able to glitch the dispositive's and the screens in the headquarter of the D.O.R.K.S.
- Possession: As shown in the sixth episode, Stolas can possess the body of multiple humans, both dead and alive.
- Telekinesis: Stolas can use his powers to move objects without touching them.
- Reanimation: Stolas was able to reanimate temporary a group of death agents in the sixth episode and make them create a portal where he could access to earth.
- Human disguise: Stolas can take on a convincing human appearance to disguise himself in the living world.
- Electrokinesis: Stolas showcases this ability when he disrupts the electric signal of the security cameras' monitors in the D.H.O.R.K.S. headquarters.
- High pain tolerance: Stolas was shown to have a high tolerance to pain as Striker broke and stabbed his leg Stolas did not react to the pain.
- Projection: Stolas created a projection from his grimoire of Blitzo moving from Hell to Earth while explaining about the Asmodean Crystal to him.
- Influence: As one of the Goetia Princes, Stolas hold a superior hierarchical position than every Overlord and even to most Goetia of lower rank, below only to his father and to the Seven Deadly Sins. He is also incredibly wealthy.
- Teleportation: Stolas transported Blitzo outside his mansion without the use of a portal.
- Musical talent: Stolas is shown to be very adept at singing, comforting his daughter with ballad-style lullabies. He also performs a song at Verosika's "I-hate-Blitzo" party and gets a huge applause.
- Limitations: As he explains in "Seeing Stars", his powers are "limited" while on Earth if he does not have his Grimoire, such that he cannot provide disguises for anyone except himself and can be overpowered by a large number of civilians. He can be injured or killed with Heaven-forged weapons and is rendered powerless if bound by similarly-made rope.
- Speed reading/reading comprehension: Due to growing up with a large library, Stolas can read extremely fast and comprehend what he reads fairly well.

Trivia[]
- Stolas' phone call with Blitzo, and his other perverted rants are so obscene that they are heavily censored, even in an TV-MA show that is filled with strong language and adult humor.
- Stolas has even shown distaste to the way Valentino treats others to the point where he loathes Valentino, specifically in various posts on Val's (Now archived) Instagram and on Blitzo's art streams.
- Behind the scenes footage shows that the censored lines from the call were, at least in the recorded audio, far less egregious than what the censored portions of the rant implied, though the on-screen text in said footage insisted that Baker's spoken words were not canon to what Stolas actually said (with the possible exception of the first censored word). This was likely done to let viewers fill in the blanks with interpretations far more disturbing than anything that could have been written.
- In terms of power, Viv has admitted that she hasn't decided fully on Stolas' abilities yet. She did however reveal that his powers work differently than Alastor's, and even said that Stolas is actually stronger than him; Stolas has since been confirmed to be more powerful to most demons but below the Seven sins and Lucifer.
- Stolas is based on the demon of the same name from folklore, who is also considered a high-ranking figure in Hell. Furthermore, both demons are owl-like creatures have a strong astrology theme and the ability to take on the form of a fair-skinned human.
- Brock Baker's impression of Rupert Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer serves as the inspiration for Stolas' voice.

- He is confirmed to be gay[1].
- It was suggested for many episodes and eventually confirmed that Stolas is a BDSM enthusiast; ironically, he seems to prefer being the submissive. Being a demon, the "toys" he uses for this include bear traps.
- Stolas appears to suffer from depression as well as a drinking problem, as he is seen drinking absinthe - a liquor that is notorious for its strong alcohol content (47 - 74 percent) being mildly hallucinogenic, and borderline poisonous - straight from the bottle. In addition, he takes antidepressants.
- In "The Circus", a painting of Stolas as a toddler shows him with a stuffed toy that looks like Max from Sam and Max.
- His human disguise bears a resemblance to his voice actor Bryce Pinkham.
- Stolas has, shortly during Season 2, become the most controversial character in Helluva Boss. While he still has fans who love his goofy personality and sympathetic background, he has also gained a significant amount of detractors for his hypocritical behavior, blatant disregard for his family in favor of trying to be with Blitzo, and barely getting called out for the morally wrong things he has done by the other characters. Along with accusations that he was made more sympathetic just to make his relationship with Blitzo look less problematic.
