Biography[]
The protagonist finds himself travelling a town where he hears of spooky people he should not look in the eyes. As he traverses, he finds a dead body on the other side of a fence. The protagonist continues to investigate the forest and find more bones.
A lady tells the protagonist he should leave the area before he dies like everyone in town and the forest would. As the protagonist fights to survive against the monsters that prey on him, he learns about people getting buried alive in the town.
The protagonist also sees that most of the inhabitants became mindless hostiles that needed to be put down. One journal made note of a mysterious stranger who has been in the town with otherworldly powers.
As the protagonist inspects a house, he finds a figure in a black cloak and the diary of a person whose memory was fading and another person who had been charred to death. Another old lady supplies him, warning him of a fiend that she found to smell like kerosene.
He also learns from man in black about a stranger similar in appearance to him from ages ago when he worked as a priest before everyone left the town which was called Lockwood.
The protagonist also hears of a girl who was found dead with an open chest and must stay away from the graveyard. He also hears of how dangerous the Stranger was thanks to charming people. Also, he found an old man who shot himself to death thanks to a fiend that keeps reviving.
He later finds the ghost of the old man who shot himself and he must wake from his nightmare before the sun falls. In one ending, the protagonist jumps down the well, but realizes he was not alone.
In another, he gets eaten by the hostiles and finds a hooded figure that resembles him as he was his "other self" and invoked the night and sacrificed people to the gods before the protagonist's weakness caused trouble for his other self.
His "other self" warns him against fighting him before he either ascends and is assailed by the gods. However, the protagonist wakes up and finds himself awake wondering if it all had been a dream.
Should the protagonist descend instead, he continues to tour Lockwood where he retreats to a well and finds a vast world with untold secrets. Should the protagonist run out of time, the night claims him.
