~ Cary Ford mocking the unnamed street racers |
The Street Racers are minor antagonists in the 2004 film, Torque. They are a pair of unnamed street racers who get overrun by Cary Ford in his motorcycle. The street racer with the beanie drives a red, modified, Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX, whereas the bald street racer drives a yellow, modified Acura RSX.
The Acura RSX driver is portrayed by John Ashker, while the Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX driver is portrayed by stuntman turned director Scott Waugh.
Biography[]
The street racers are shown in the beginning of the film at a red light, driving a red Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX and a Acura RSX respectively, where a turtle is also in the middle of the road. After the light turns green, the street racers race off. The Mitsubishi Eclipse driver takes a slight lead as both cars go neck and neck. As the Acura RSX trades off for the lead, through the Eclipse's windshield reveals Cary Ford in his Aprilia RSV motorcycle. The two cars try to block him as Cary slams on the brakes of his bike. The racers then use their NOS respectively to outrun him, with the Acura RSX still in the lead, but Cary Ford performs a wheelie to leave both of them in the dust, causing both of their cars to go out of control as Ford drives past a sign reading "cars suck".
After Cary Ford stopped at a local diner to see photos of his ex-girlfriend Shane, he exits, but the street racers who tried to prevent him from passing show up. Ford tells them to leave both of their cars on the road, but the Mitsubishi Eclipse driver scolds him for nearly costing him his ride, but Ford tells him that he was just in a hurry to get home. As the Acura RSX driver taunts him that he'll be late, the kid in the gas station touches the Eclipse driver's said car, but shoves him off after telling him to not touch his car. After Ford mocks both of them that driving cars makes them such assholes, the Acura driver tries to punch Ford but dodges and Ford punches him back. The Eclipse driver tries attacking him in retaliation, but Ford deflects his punches and punches him to the ground as the Acura driver grabs him. The Eclipse driver gets inside his car and tries grabbing his wrench, but Ford, still being strangled by the bald driver, kicks the right door on the Eclipse driver, causing him to yell in pain. The Acura RSX driver pins Ford on the hood of the Eclipse just as the driver from the said car retaliates by attacking him with his wrench. Ford is able to dodge his attack as he pinned the bald driver on the hood and is able to defeat him easily by pinning him on the Acura RSX's right glass window. The bald driver attacks but Ford is able to punch him in the face before pinning him on the ground with his foot. After exchanging 5 dollars to the kid in exchange for the fight, he tells both of them to buckle up as he put them back on their respective cars as both of them drove off in defeat before he is greeted by Val and Dalton.
Trivia[]
- Since Torque was made by the same producers who made The Fast and the Furious, the opening scene was somewhat a take to make fun of the franchise by Universal, as the quarter mile street race is somewhat similar to the sequences from the Fast and Furious movies.
- The red Eclipse GSX can somewhat be similar to Roman Pearce's Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder from 2 Fast 2 Furious.
- Scott Waugh, the actor who portrayed the Mitsubishi Eclipse driver, would later become one of the producers for the 2014 Need For Speed film.
