~ Stuart before throwing Gloria into the concrete pit. |
Stuart Barker is the main antagonist of the Criminal Minds episode "Taboo". He is a serial killer who murders women by lobotomizing them and drowning them in concrete in an attempt to turn off their sexual drives.
He was portrayed by Lachlan Buchanan.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Before Stuart was born, his mother Lynette, then still a teenager, was involved in a car accident. This accident left her with damage to the frontal lobe which caused her to become hypersexual and have sex with random men, eventually getting pregnant. After Stuart was born, Lynette's mother Gloria agreed to raise him. In order to explain the age difference between Stuart and Lynette, Gloria told him he was adopted.
As an adolescent, Stuart became aware of Lynette's hypersexuality and began obsessing over her, following her to the local Lover's Lane at night and watching her having sex with her newest partners. Stuart convinced himself that his feelings weren't wrong because, as far as he was aware, they weren't related. As an adult, he found a job building swimming pools.
In September 2016 Lynette began taking medication for her hypersexuality and decided to tell Stuart the truth. She brought Stuart to the Lover's Lane, causing him to think she was going to have sex with him. He admitted to watching her having sex with his friends and tried to kiss her, causing Lynette to blurt out that she was his mother. The realization that he had been fantasizing about his mother traumatized Stuart to the point that he broke down and killed Lynette before burying her in concrete. As Lynette would often run away for sexual escapades, she was not reported missing. This incident caused Stuart to become convinced that all single mothers were hypersexual and begin searching for a way to turn off their sexuality. He abducted a woman named Sharon Landon and lobotomized her with a drill and chlorine in order to damage her frontal lobe, and then drowned her in concrete when this failed. He killed Lisa Barclay the same way a month later.
Taboo[]
The FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) is called in after two concrete drums containing the bodies of Sharon Landon and Lisa Barclay are found at local dump sites. Meanwhile, Stuart encounters a single mother named Kim Conti while working on her swimming pool and decides to target her next. Stuart abducts her and performs a lobotomy with his drill, killing her, before disposing of her body in a concrete drum like the others.
Stuart returns to one of his dump sites, seeing BAU Agents Emily Prentiss and Luke Alvez interrogating two teenagers whom they consider suspects. Panicking, Stuart flees back home and smashes a picture of Lynette before berating Gloria and demanding she tell the truth about his adoption. When she denies knowing anything, he knocks her out with a candlestick and drags her away, tying her to a chair in the Lover's Lane where he killed Lynette. He then begins digging a pit to drop her in. When Gloria wakes up, she begs him to let her go, insisting that she always told him the truth, but he continues to call her a liar.
While Stuart is busy digging the pit, Gloria manages to slip her bonds and run away, but Stuart catches up and grabs her. He tells her he knows the truth about Lynette and admits to killing her before shoving Gloria into the pit and pouring concrete in to drown her. Fortunately, by this point the BAU have identified Stuart as the killer and arrive to arrest him, saving Gloria. Stuart attempts to run away but Alvez knocks him down, allowing Prentiss to arrest him at gunpoint.
