Submarauder is a minor antagonist in Generation One of the Transformers franchise. He was based on a figure from the 1988 toyline.
Biography[]
Submarauder first appeared in Issue #40 of the Marvel US comic, as one of six members of Scorponok's Decepticon crew that he and Vorath fitted with Pretender shells. For their first assignment, they were ordered to raid the Alternate Reality computer institute, only to find it defended by the new Autobot Pretenders, directed by the personality recording of Optimus Prime, who soon drove them off.
Submarauder reappeared during the Underbase Saga, accompanying Scorponok's crew as they made contact with the Earth Decepticons led by Ratbat. Manipulation by Starscream, who was hoping to gain the power of the Underbase, saw the two groups end up at each other's throats. They eventually called a truce with each other and the Autobots to defend Earth from the Underbase-powered Starscream. Submarauder was part of a team led by Scorponok and Grimlock who defended Tokyo. He and the other Pretenders were among the few to survive the assault, as their organic shells protected them, although their main achievement was accidentally destroying Grimlock when Starscream used him as a shield.
Submarauder and the other Pretenders took the lead role in Scorponok's plan to generate a lightning storm that would destroy New York, harnessing its power. Submarauder and Finback were assigned to lay a cable that would siphon off the power and guard it while Iguanus placed the vital electro-stator in place. However, intervention by the Autobot Micromasters saw the storm channelled into Iguanus instead. Submarauder made his last appearance in Issue #55, ferrying Lord Zarak back to the Decepticon base from New York.
