In the show, they are an evil organization which brainwashes people and seeks to take over Greendale.
History[]
Season 3[]
There was space for a new restaurant in the Greendale cafeteria. Shirley and Pierce tried to set up a sandwich shop there, but the space was bought by Subway instead. As the restaurant needed to be partially owned by a student, they created a personification of themselves named Subway. Subway was actually a person named Rick who was an indentured servant for the restaurant chain. He was forced to abandon his previous personality in order to be a mascot for Subway, without any real personality traits or motivations that could alienate potential costumers.
Subway and Britta fell in love. They started seeing each other in secret. Pierce and Shirley tried to get Britta to spy on him in order to take down the restaurant chain. She refused. However, Pierce planted a bug on Britta, which recorded the two of them sleeping together. This was taken to the Subway Rep. At first, he had no problem with what he heard. In the middle of the recording, he heard them commit an unknown "deviant" sexual act that he decided was too inappropriate. He had Subway-Soldiers come to take Rick away. Later, Britta met up with another mascot who had taken Rick's place as "Subway". He pretended to be the same person, and claimed that Britta forced a "deviant" sex act on him without his consent.
After the Study Group rioted and Ben Chang took over the school, Subway pulled out of Greendale.
Season 5[]
After the Save Greendale Committee fixed all of Greendale's problems, the Greendale School Board decided to sell Greendale to Subway in order to form a "Sandwich University". The Save Greendale Committee tried to buy Greendale back, and Subway attempted to stop them. However, when the Committee managed to get funds to purchase Greendale, Subway pulled out.
