Villain Overview

Filthy monkey who can't even use jujutsu!
~ Geto showing his discrimination against non-sorcerers.
Mankind stands at the top of the food chain, yet they imagine the existence of higher beings and call them gods. Don't you find that awfully strange? Especially since jujutsu sorcerers exist without belief... In the end all those monkeys just want to avert their eyes from the existence of those better than them.
~ Geto justifying his hatred of non-sorcerers.

Suguru Geto is the main antagonist of the manga/anime Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and the deuteragonist of the Hidden Inventory arc of Jujutsu Kaisen, which depicts the events that led to his descent into villainy and his bond with Satoru Gojo. Geto is a former Jujutsu Sorcerer and Gojo's best friend.

After experiencing endless tragedies as a student, he began to develop a deep hatred for all non-sorcerers, planning to create a world consisting only of jujutsu sorcerers and curse users. He was the orchestrator of the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, a jujutsu terrorist attack on the cities of Kyoto and Shinjuku, before he was stopped by Yuta Okkotsu and killed by Gojo. Eventually, his body was taken over by Kenjaku after his death.

Geto was voiced by Takahiro Sakurai, who has also voiced Poseidon in Record of Ragnarok, in Japanese and by Lex Lang in English. Lang has also voiced Elrik Vonreg in Star Wars Resistance, the Candlemaker in Doom Patrol, Dr. Neo Cortex in Crash Bandicoot, Clayface II and Metallo in The Batman and Doctor Doom in The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Both actors also voiced Kenjaku.

Appearance[]

Geto is a tall man with small brown eyes (which were actually purple in the manga) and long black hair partially tied back. He also consistently wears large black stud earrings. As a student at Tokyo Jujutsu High, he wore a standard jujutsu tech uniform featuring a single golden swirl button and baggy pants. His hair was also tied back albeit being shorter with a bang of nose length. Due to that he is often remembered by others for his bangs, thus being referred as Bangs Guy by Misato Kuroi.

After his defection, he let his hair grow out and dressed as a Buddhist priest with a multicolored garment over large black robes. His curse user design can be considered a mockery of the Buddha due to his actions throughout the story and how he is only parading around in the outfit to display good intent while acting on malicious schemes.

Personality[]

As a Jujutsu high student, Geto displayed kindness and respectable qualities. He usually stood out in his pairing with Satoru Gojo as the most responsible of the two. Despite this, Gojo and Geto always had high regard for one another and considered each other as best friends. Due to how skilled they were with their techniques, they considered themselves 'the strongest'. However, Geto started to experience a change within himself and his ideologies after the star plasma vessel Riko Amanai was killed in front of him. He started distancing himself away from Gojo and went on more dangerous missions alone, all while questioning himself if being a jujutsu sorcerer was really worth it. Geto started to deem all non-sorcerers as "monkeys" and regretted protecting them during his time at the school. After talking with Yuki Tsukumo, Yu Haibara dying in action, and murdering 112 people in a village to rescue two girls, Geto made the decision to become a curse user. He was expelled from the school immediately and was considered the worst of all curse users.

After becoming a Buddhist Priest, Geto held a fake persona where he would appear to help vulnerable people with curses but really just used them to collect curses and money. He would let them die or kill them himself if they couldn't contribute either of these two things. Despite hating non-sorcerers, Geto was polite towards jujutsu sorcerers and curse users alike. After failing to coerce Yuta Okkotsu into joining him and giving Rika, the two clash. He cries tears of joy at the thought of jujutsu sorcerers protecting each other and states this as the world he was fighting for. After losing the fight with Okkotsu, Geto spends his final moments reminiscing with Gojo and stating he could never be happy in a world like this.

Biography[]

Gojo's Past Arc[]

Geto attended the jujutsu college along with Satoru Gojo and Shoko Ieiri. During his second year at the school, Geto, Gojo, and Shoko went to check up on Mei Mei and Utahime after not hearing from them for two days. After saving Utahime and Mei Mei and dealing with the spirit, Geto attends a meeting with Shoko and Gojo where Masamichi punishes Gojo for not putting up a screen.

Later Geto is in the classroom with Gojo and Shoko, where Geto and Gojo discuss the importance of putting up a screen. Geto and Gojo then get into an argument about the strong protecting weak, resulting in a fight. Masamichi then shows up and assigns Geto and Gojo a mission from Master Tengen. Masamichi informs the two of the importance of the mission and how the two will have to look out for two groups that want to stop them. After being informed about the mission, Geto and Gojo head out.

Geto saves Riko Amanai.

As they arrive at the location to pick up the vessel for the mission, an explosion happens, and the vessel falls to the ground. Before the vessel hits the ground, Geto manages to save her with Gojo's help. A Q soldier, Kokun, then confronts Geto. Geto easily defeats Kokun, and even shows Kokun that Gojo has defeated his comrade. When Riko wakes up, Geto and Gojo introduce themselves to her. They then start to talk, which Riko explains why she is so spunky even though she is willing to fuse with Tengen.

Riko then has them take her to her Junior High, which they contact Masamichi about their circumstance. After talking with Masamichi, they check on the surveillance spirit, which Geto tells Gojo that two have been exorcised. Geto heads out to deal with the intruders while Gojo and Misato look for Riko. Geto manages to encounter one of the intruders, who manages to figure out what Geto's ability is. Geto easily defeats the intruder and starts to interrogate him.

After finishing his interrogation, Geto meets up with Misato and asks about Riko. When another intruder escapes from the school, Geto calls Gojo and informs him about the situation. When Misato is kidnapped, Geto meets up with Gojo and Riko to discuss what they will do next.

The three decide to rescue Misato, and meet with the kidnappers in Okinawa. Once they arrive at Okinawa, they manage to save Misato and choose to have some fun in Okinawa before heading back. Geto talks with Gojo about why the kidnappers wanted the exchange to happen in Okinawa until it's time for them to head back. Riko manages to convince them to stay for one more day. Geto asks if Gojo is okay since he has been using his technique non-stop for days. Gojo tells Geto that he is doing fine, and they continue to have fun. The next day, the four head back to the college and they are attacked when they arrive at the site.

Geto quickly takes Riko and Misato into the college and leads them to the Tombs of the Star Corridor. Once they reach the tombs, Geto and Riko part ways from Misato and enter the tombs' main hall. Geto explains to Riko where she can reach Tengen, but also explains how he won't stop her if she wants to leave. When Riko decides that she still wants to leave, Geto prepares to escort her out, but an arriving Toji Fushiguro shoots Riko. Geto is baffled at why Toji is here, to which Toji explains how he killed Gojo. Geto summons spirits and has them attack Toji, but he manages to defeat the spirits and even wounds Geto.

Geto sends Rainbow Dragon one of his cursed spirits to attack Toji Fushiguro.

When Toji leaves with Riko's body, Geto gets healed by Shoko and heads out to the Star Religious Group's base. Once Geto reaches the base, he finds out that not only Toji is dead, but that Gojo has retrieved Riko's body. Before they leave, Geto says that they should take care of everyone there, but Gojo tells him that it doesn't matter since the group would be disbanded soon anyway.

A year later, Geto, along with Shoko, is helping out Gojo with his new technique. Geto and Shoko become curious about the technique, and Gojo explains how the technique works and how he can have it continuously active without it harming him. Afterwards, Geto thinks about how strong Gojo has become and that he has recently started going on missions alone. Later Geto is thinking about who he is doing all of this for, when he meets Yu Haibara. Yu asks if he should bring something from his mission trip, and Geto asks for something sweet, because he will be sharing it with Gojo. They begin talking about why Yu became a shaman. Suddenly Yuki Tsukumo shows up, at this point Yu leaves them alone to talk, while he heads out on a mission.

Geto and Yuki talk about how they can stop cursed spirits from being created, which Yuki tells him that she has managed to figure out two ways for that to happen. After talking, the two-part ways. Later Geto meets with Nanami in the morgue and hears about how Yu was killed during a mission. Days later, Geto is sent on a mission to a village but decides to massacre the village when the villagers want him to kill two young shamans. Geto then takes the girls and goes on the run.

Sometime later, Geto meets with Shoko in Shinjuku and explains that he plans to kill all non-shamans. When Shoko has Gojo come to Shinjuku, Geto meets with Gojo and explains why he is doing this. After explaining everything to Gojo, Geto walks away. Later Geto meets with most of the former Star Religious group members and explains to him that he will be taking over. He even kills one of them to make his point across.

Cursed Child Arc[]

Geto releases a cursed spirit at an elementary school that swallows two children, which Yuta manages to defeat the spirit and rescue the kids.

Three months later, Geto heads to the Hapin shopping district to see the special-class spirit, Rika. Geto releases a powerful spirit and has it fight Toge and Yuta. After the two managed to defeat the spirit, Geto says that he wanted to see the special grade cursed spirit, Rika. Geto also says that he will have to meet with Yuta soon since he will have to return Yuta's student ID that one of his spirits stolen. Afterward, Geto heads back to his base.

Days later, Geto is helping out a woman that is cursed by a spirit. The woman expresses how grateful she is that the curse has been exorcised and leaves, in which Geto expresses his true feelings towards non-shamans. One of Geto's followers show up and informs him that the others have arrived. As Geto and his follower head to the meeting, one of Geto's donators, Kanemori, suddenly show up. Kanemori complains that Geto needs to perform an exorcism on him since he has donated so much.

Geto's follower informs Geto that Kanemori donated between 50 to 100 million, but no donation has been made for half a year. Geto then kills Kanemori and heads to the meeting. Geto meeting with his fellow shamans and informs them that they will take on the magic college soon.

Later Geto arrives at the magic college along with his shaman allies. Geto quickly greets Yuta and explains why he wants to create a shaman only world, which Yuta disagrees with. The faculty suddenly shows up and asks why Geto is here, which Geto says that he will release 2000 spirits all over Japan on December 24th. Geto then leaves with his followers but leaves some cursed spirits for the college to handle.

On December 24th, Geto arrives at the Tokyo College to obtain special-class spirit Rika. Geto kills all that get in his way and puts a screen over the college. Geto then encounters Maki, Panda, and Toge, which he easily defeats the three. As Geto is glad that shamans are defending each other, Yuta shows up and becomes enraged at what Geto had done to his friends. Geto sends multiple spirits at Yuta and Rika, which Yuta takes this time to rescue his friends and heal them. As Yuta returns to the fight, Geto releases more spirits, but Yuta uses Rika's power to trounce them.

Geto manages to figure out what Rika's power is and expresses a desire for Rika even more. Geto then takes Yuta on in close combat and overwhelms him, which Rika gets Yuta away from Geto. All the while Geto is facing Yuta, he expresses his view on the non-shamans. Yuta rushes at Geto, which Geto manages to break Yuta's katana. Geto then gets punched by Yuta and listens as Yuta expresses his desire. Geto decides to use all his spirits on Yuta, which Yuta responds by releasing Rika's power at Geto. Geto's spirits are all exorcised, and Geto's arm is blasted off.

Geto is forced to retreat and thinks about how he must obtain Rika next time. Geto encounters Gojo, and the two start to chat, which Geto returns Yuta's student ID. Geto is killed by Gojo as a mercy kill. After this, Gojo chooses not to have Geto's body taken in by Jujutsu High. This allows an unknown party to place their brain into Geto's corpse, reanimating it and granting them access to all of his abilities. The man calling himself 'Geto', along with Mahito, makes a deal with Kokichi Muta to heal his body, that is if he supplies them with information.

Powers and Abilities[]

Suguru Geto was one of just four special grade sorcerers and was deemed the worst of all curse users due to the level of danger he presented to humanity.

As a student, Suguru and Satoru were both considered "the strongest". Suguru was capable of making short work of experienced curse users on multiple occasions with little effort. His collection of cursed spirits was wide with a high variety of different abilities and roles in battle. Suguru was not overly dependent on his curses and was a highly capable close-quarters fighter as well.

During his time as a curse user, Suguru used his religious group as a lure to collect thousands of cursed spirits. Over the course of a decade, Suguru became a bigger threat to humanity than any curse at the time. With thousands of curses and several curse users by his side, Suguru had enough power behind him to declare war on Jujutsu High, the cornerstone of the jujutsu community.

Suguru understood that despite all his resources he had a low chance of defeating all the Jujutsu High sorcerers. His tactical intellect allowed him to deceive them and isolate Yuta Okkotsu at the school itself. The true goal of the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons was to kill Yuta and steal special grade vengeful spirit Rika Orimoto from him. If his curses were not split between Kyoto and Shinjuku, it is believed that Suguru would have been successful.

  • Hand-to-Hand Combat Mastery: Most of Suguru's opponents assume he would fight like a shikigami user and allow his cursed spirits to attack for him. Suguru uses this misconception about his technique to his advantage, letting him surprise opponents with expert martial arts skills in hand-to-hand combat.

Suguru allowed an armed close user to get close so Suguru could pummel them with a mix of punches, palm strikes, and hard chops capable of knocking out teeth and leaving his opponents in a bloody heap.

Panda, a cursed corpse who excels in close quarters fighting, was even out struck by Suguru in a brief exchange of purely physical blows. While armed with Playful Cloud, Suguru engaged Yuta and a fully manifested Rika at the same time in close combat. He was able to parry Yuta's sword strikes and Rika's physical blows at the same time, keeping both at bay with masterful skill.

  • Great Tactical Intellect: Suguru Geto was always a brilliant student at Jujutsu High. While Satoru would forget key points about Master Tengen and other detailed aspects of their missions, Suguru would be the one to remember and explain things to him. His intellect translated well to battle, always able to think a step ahead of his opponent. An older and more experienced curse user attempted to outmaneuver the curse manipulator into getting closer, only to fall into Suguru's trap.

In his fight with Toji Fushiguro, Suguru managed to surprise the Sorcerer Killer for just a moment. He moved behind Toji knowing his confidence would keep his guard down and nearly absorbed the inventory curse as a means to cut off Toji's weapons supply. However, this ultimately backfired due to circumstances Suguru could not have foreseen, leaving him open to getting exploited at close range.

Soon after becoming a curse user, Suguru was able to take over the remnants of the Time Vessel Association and other like-minded religious groups. Doing so created a legitimate base of operations for cursed humans to come to seek exorcisms, allowing Suguru to absorb their curses or exploit them for money. Suguru was able to collect thousands of curses over that time using this method.

Thanks to resources accumulated over the course of a series of strategic moves, Suguru took on the entire Jujutsu High sorcerer community. The Night Parade of a Hundred Demons effectively declared war on Jujutsu High and baited all their sorcerers into Kyoto and Shinjuku. Meanwhile, Suguru infiltrated Jujutsu High to take on Yuta Okkotsu directly. He understood that he had less than a twenty percent chance of victory initially but confidently calculated his win percentage to far greater by capturing Rika.

  • Cursed Energy Manipulation: Due to the nature of his technique, Suguru Geto's cursed energy feels slightly different from other sorcerers. He has a high understanding of how cursed energy and techniques generally work. Suguru is capable of manipulating it to hide his residuals or imbuing energy it into weapons among other applications. He's also able to read the flow of cursed energy of other sorcerers without any difficulty. Suguru is famous for being able to manipulate thousands of curses at the same time with high reserves of cursed energy.
  • Cursed Spirit Manipulation: As the name implies, Suguru's innate technique allows him to control vagabond cursed spirits. Dominated curses are absorbed into small black orbs that Suguru must ingest orally in order to use. If the difference in grade is more than two levels, Suguru can absorb a curse with no consequences. He's also able to absorb other sorcerer's curses as long as he kills the master first.
  • Maximum: Uzumaki: The maximum technique of Curse Manipulation combines a massive number of collected curses into one powerful attack. Suguru used over four thousand curses in his maximum technique during the climax of his battle with Yuta and Rika.
Geto summons a curtain over Jujutsu High 28Anime29

    Geto summons a curtain.

  • Curtain: A type of barrier that is cast over a large area to hide everything within it from the outside world. Suguru can cast curtains capable of trapping sorcerers inside of it and can do so over another weaker sorcerer's barrier as well.
  • Weapon usage: Suguru has access to Playful Cloud, a special grade cursed tool he used to fight Yuta and Rika at the same time. He was effectively able to block, parry, and counterattack against both adversaries at the same time with the three-section staff.
