Task Foce X, also known as The Suicide Squad are the main protagonists in the 2016 movie Suicide Squad and its 2021 reboot-sequel The Suicide Squad, both from the DC Extended Universe.

They are a team of imprisoned supervillains in the Belle Reve Correctional Center, reclueted by Amanda Waller and the U.S. government to save the world from different threats in exchange for reducing their sentences.

History[]

Formation[]

After the death of Superman, various Metahumans such as the Flash, Aquaman, and many others, were inspired to use their superpowers to fight evil; the human race was also impacted by his selfless act. A.R.G.U.S.'s Director Amanda Waller feared that other metahumans would turn against humanity, without any way to counter them.

She proposed forming a task force comprised of expendable individuals with exceptional powers and abilities who could counter rogue metahumans. To get approval for the team's formation, Amanda Waller with Dr. June Moone attend a government meeting where June turned into an ancient mystical being known as the Enchantress and teleported to Iran where she handed over Iranian nuclear plans, and thus, Waller's plans were approved with Colonel Rick Flag being chosen to be a leader of the team.

Return of Enchantress and Incubus[]

As mentioned above, a film about the Suicide Squad was released in August 2016 as the third film in DC Comics' new DC Extended Universe. The team includes Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc, El Diablo and Slipknot.

When the Enchantress and her brother Incubus attack Midway City, the Squad is dispatched into the city to retrieve a target (who is eventually revealed to be Amanda Waller). As in the comics, each member is outfitted with a bomb to ensure his obedience. The Suicide Squad is accompanied by a team of soldiers led by Colonel Rick Flag and Katana.

After their helicopter crashes, the team is forced to travel Midway City on foot, resulting in various battles with the city's inhabitants who have been turned into hostile beasts by the Enchantress. After retrieving Waller, the group was attacked by the Joker who escapes with Harley Quinn.

Quinn later rejoined the team when her helicopter crashes and, led by Flag once more, the team went after Amanda Waller who had been captured by Incubus.

With combined efforts, the team defeats and destroys the Enchantress and Incubus. Although they rejoice their victory, Waller showed up and uses the threat of blowing up their bombs to force the Squad members to continue their prison sentence, although some members obtain special rights. 10 years of each member's sentence were removed and they resume their prison sentence. Later on, however, Harley was busted out of prison by the Joker.
