Suna was the primary antagonist of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Frame of Mind. He was portrayed by the late Andrew Prine.
Biography[]
A Tilonian, Suna was a military officer in one of the factions that was vying for power after the collapse of the government of Tilonus IV. Commander William Riker was sent to Tilonus in order to rescue a Federation research team that had been working on the planet when the government collapsed. Suna and his faction saw an opportunity to obtain strategic information on Starfleet, and abducted Riker off the streets of the capitol city after he arrived.
Suna then subjected Riker to a neurosomatic technique in order to extract the information from Riker's mind, a technique that caused Riker to experience intense delusions, which had been created by Riker's mind to keep him grounded and sane. Suna appeared in Riker's delusions either as a Starfleet science division officer or the Tilonus Institute for Mental Disorders administrator Dr. Suna.
Eventually piecing together that Suna was the one constant in all his delusions, Riker was able to wake himself up before Suna could extract the information from his mind. Finding his camouflaged communicator and knife Worf had given him for the mission, Riker signaled for emergency beamup and was transported back to the Enterprise. This left Suna empty handed as the Enterprise retrieved the research team and departed the system. Doctor Crusher repaired the neurological damage Suna had caused to Commander Riker.
Trivia[]
The first draft of the script for Frame of Mind gave his full name as Nigral Suna, and stated that he specialized in extracting memories from victims to sell on the black market.
