“ | Rollerman... Your special move, Dehydration Squeezing... From now on, I want to call it the "Cursed Roller" and pass it on. We Devil Chojin will never forgive the half-hearted evildoers who put on the mask of righteousness and rule this world with their own faces. Let's show this rotten world just how pure and noble true evil really is, along with your regretful curse! With my ally, Ashuraman! Guffaw, guffaw, guffaw! | „ |
~ Sunshine after Rollerman's death. |
Sunshine is a major antagonist from the anime/manga series Kinnikuman.
He first appears as the secondary antagonist of the Golden Mask Arc and a major antagonist during the Dream Chojin Tag Arc. Sunshine would act as the protagonist of Deep of Muscle 12, a major villain in the early chapters of Kinnikuman Nisei and a supporting character in Kinnikuman (2011).
In the original anime and Kinnikuman Nisei, Sunshine would be voiced by Masaharu Sato who also voiced Mammothman and Kinnikuman Mariposa in Kinnikuman and Goshinki in Inuyasha.
In the Perfect Origin Arc, Robin Mask would be voiced by Toshiyuki Morikawa who also voiced Yoshikage Kira in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Sephiroth in Final Fantasy 7.
Appearance[]
Kinnikuman[]
Sunshine is a large golem of a person, standing at nearly ten feet tall. His body is yellow like the color of gold and has a tile pattern all over his body. His arms and legs are blocks, leading up to his hands that appear to be completely human-like. His feet are also blocky.
Sunshine's head is cubed-shaped with a square nose and a wide mouth. On both Sunshine's forehead and chest, there are Sun emblems which are purple and surrounded by a pink spiked pattern. Sunshine's eyes appear to be completely black as if they were nothing more than holes in his head, however, as shown when severely injured, Sunshine does in fact have regular eyes.
Sunshine wears no clothing whatsoever, unlike most Chojin.
Kinnikuman Nisei[]
“ | I'm 62 already... Over 50 years of super wrestling have left me blind in one eye... Biting down hard every time I pulled off a move... Ruined all of my teeth... My arm is misshapen from throwing too many suplexes... Most of all, my strength is gone... My weight is half what it was in my prime... | „ |
~ Sunshine about his current body |
Old age and constant wrestling have ravaged Sunshine's body, his full set of teeth are reduced down to two buck teeth, his bulky physique has become slim with his ribcage being visible and his stomach being almost half the size of his shoulder-width.
Sunshine's face has become more defined, his chin drooping lower than it would normally and his cheeks are wider than they were before. At some point, Sunshine lost his left eye and he wears a black eyepatch to cover it up.
Sunshine typically wears clothing now. When out on the streets, he wears a brown cap and large brown waistcoat and pants that cover most of his body, preventing most people from being able to identify him.
While hosting the matches for the Nightmares, Sunshine wears a full red tuxedo with a black collar, a white dress shirt, a black bow tied and grey dress pants.
Sunshine doesn't wear any shoes in either of his outfits.
Personality[]
Kinnikuman[]
Sunshine is a loud, large and rude brute, facts that Sunshine takes with a great deal of pride. Sunshine is not above beating up his enemies more than necessary, even going as far as to bury them inside of his massive body until he hears that their heart has stopped.
Sunshine is self-admittedly an idiot who has lower intellect than most of the other Six Devil Knights and has a generally forgetful memory, something he boasts about and thinks allows him to go beyond his failures. Despite this lack of intelligence, Sunshine is a very talented fighter and is an expert at transforming, an ability that takes an intense amount of effort and memorisation in order to pull off. Sunshine has also shown the ability to formulate some devious plans such as taking advantage of Thingman's honorable nature to make him accidentally fix Sunshine's transformation device.
Despite Sunshine's boastful personality, he has a bit of a complex about his loss to Geronimo, being the only one of the Six Devil Knights and possibly the only Devil Chojin ever to lose to a normal human. Sunshine would eventually grow past this, learning to take his loss in stride rather than focusing on it too much and becoming worse because of it.
Sunshine initially thought nothing about the idea of friendship, seeing it as bonds that hold someone back, however, because of his experiences with Rollerman and Ashuraman, as well as seeing the power of Burning Inner Strength, Sunshine changed his mind about it, seeing friendship as the thing that can evolve the Devil Chojin beyond their current levels of power.
Kinnikuman Nisei[]
“ |
Meat: Sunshine! You're just as evil as I originally thought! Sunshine: I never said I wasn't! |
„ |
~ Meat after Sunshine had Rex King kidnap Terry the Kid. |
Even after thirty-five years, Sunshine is still an evil Chojin, believing in cheating to achieve victory and using whatever brutal tactics are needed.
What has changed about Sunshine is that he would use his brains instead of his raw brute strength, something that was required of him because of his ever-increasing age. Sunshine is smart enough to blackmail Mantaro Kinniku, a Justice Chojin, so he could referee a fight, calling out all of the typical fouls that Terry the Kid would make while not calling out any of Rex King's moves because they're technically legal.
While his intelligence has grown, so too has his emotional instability. After Sunshine lost all of his allies in the Devil Chojin faction, he would become both enraged and saddened, these mixing emotions being his main source of motivation for all of the cruel acts he commits.
While Sunshine does appear to be as evil as possible, even he has a level of standards such as not being able to conceive that Ashuraman actually killed his own child.
Relationships[]
Allies[]
Devil Chojin[]
“ | Tch... Demon Seed... You act like they'll nip you in the bud... But they ain't nothing but tiny "seeds" themselves! The real Devil Chojin though-? The real Devil Chojin are the Seven Devil Chojin and Six Devil Knights from 36 years ago! | „ |
~ Sunshine drinking his sorrows away while hearing about the Demon Seed |
Ashuraman[]
“ | Devils have friendship, too. | „ |
~ Sunshine to Ashuraman |
Out of everyone in the Devil Chojin faction, Sunshine is the closest to Ashuraman.
After Sunshine was defeated by Geronimo, he began to doubt his abilities but Ashuraman try would cheer him up, saying that the loss was just a fluke. When Sunshine said he needed a week to prepare himself, Ashuraman agreed, letting Sunshine do whatever he wanted so he could become confident in himself again.
When Ashuraman was almost thrown into Sunshine's Cursed Roller, Sunshine stopped the attack to save Ashuraman from being crushed by it, not wanting to hurt his friend. At the time, Sunshine couldn't comprehend why he felt this way but as the fight continued, Sunshine would genuinely understand the friendship that he and Ashuraman had together.
“ | The feared prince of the Underworld... And my friend Ashuraman as well... Left for the side of good. That's when I decided... those who wish to leave should leave! I will protect the flame of evil even if I am alone!! | „ |
~ Sunshine about Ashuraman leaving the Devil Chojin |
When Ashuraman left to become a Justice Chojin, it both saddened and enraged Sunshine, his best friend turning against him would become the primary motivating factor in Sunshine's quest to kill the Justice Chojin for taking his friend away from him.
Sunshine pretends that he hates Ashuraman for this but it is a false facade that quickly breaks down when Sunshine begins to cry when thinking about it.
“ | I can feel it! Until now, I was so far away... But I feel close now!! I feel so close that I could reach out and touch it... The one I've been searching for all these years... They're just across the ocean! | „ |
~ Sunshine sensing Ashuraman's presence |
When the Demon Seed started their plan, Sunshine would sense Ashurman from miles away and was quick to run after the presence he was sensing, knowing that Ashuraman had returned to his side after over thirty-five years. Sunshine was even willing to swim across the ocean, pushing his old body harder than he did before.
“ |
Ashuraman: Stop Sunshine! Don't come any closer! I may have returned as a Devil Chojin, but... I'm sorry to say that I won't be teaming up with you again. Sunshine: Ashuraman! You're a lone wolf that won't accept help... You've not changed a bit, Ashuraman! Heh... To be honest, if you'd come and hugged me out of old feelings I'd have been a little letdown... Fuhehege... |
„ |
~ Sunshine's reaction to Ashuraman not wanting to team up with him |
Once Sunshine arrived, he was thrilled to see Ashuraman back in his prime power and was quick to identify him to everyone in the crowd who didn't know who he was.
Sunshine was quick to run up to Ashuraman but he told him to stay back and that the two wouldn't be working together. Sunshine was a little saddened and disappointed by this, however, he was still happy to see that Ashuraman wasn't going to give into nostalgic feelings over his Devil Chojin beliefs.
When Ashuraman entered the ring, Sunshine was thrilled to see that the old generation of Devil Chojin was able to almost singlehandedly beat down two of the new generation of Justice Chojin so easily. Sunshine was loud and ecstatic every time he saw Ashuraman use one of his old moves, saying that still look as good as they did over thirty years ago.
When Ashuraman used his Anger Face, Sunshine started to cry over the fact that none of the people in the audience even knew what it was despite how fearsome it was in the past.
“ | Unlike many other Devil Chojin, Ashuraman, the prince of the Demon Realm... Did not like to shed blood needlessly outside the ring. You've changed, Ashuraman... | „ |
~ Sunshine after seeing Ashuraman kick Kevin Mask after the match was over |
When Ashuraman tried to attack Kevin Mask after Scarface was killed and the match had ended, Sunshine stopped him, pointing out that in the past Ashuraman would never stoop so low.
As Sunshine waited in front of the Demon Womb for Ashuraman and Voltman to fight against Mantaro and Kevin Mask, seeing Ashuraman's increasing hatred of the concept of bonds and familial love was concerning Sunshine more and more.
When Sunshine had heard that Ashuraman had killed his son Shiva, he refused to believe it, not thinking that any Devil Chojin could be that brutal.
“ |
Ashuraman: "Devils have friendship, too." Where have I heard that before? Regardless of age, the older I get, the stronger the urge to destroy those Justice Chojin, it rages within me! Sunshine: Whenever you need me, I'll be there to help. |
„ |
~ Sunshine and Ashuraman reconnecting after decades apart |
Once the Demon Seed and Akuma Shogun were defeated, Sunshine was quick to comfort Ashuraman, agreeing to work with him again to beat the Justice Chojin.
Check Mate[]
Since Sunshine basically adopted, raised and taught Check Mate everything he knows, Check Mate is Sunshine's ideal protege. Sunshine would view Check Mate as well as Rex King as the perfect Devil Chojin to defeat the Justice Chojin and help them take over the world.
When Check Mate started to disparage the old Devil Chojin that Sunshine fought alongside, calling them weak, a rift started to form between Sunshine and Check Mate. Sunshine would get angry and Check Mate and be attacked by him in the process.
While Sunshine does appear to be incredibly harsh to Check Mate, he is shown to care about him, even going as far to carrying him away to patch up his injuries and train him for a rematch.
After Check Mate and Sunshine reunite after the Demon Seed start their assault and try to revive Akuma Shogun, Check Mate and Sunshine are shown to be relatively friendly with each other with Sunshine even offering Check Mate the opportunity to rejoin the Devil Chojin, Sunshine saying that it was the ideal time to join the "winning side", but Check Mate refuses. Sunshine doesn't really hold this against him.
Akuma Shogun[]
As one of the leaders of the Six Devil Knights, Sunshine is eternally loyal to Akuma Shogun, viewing him as the ideal Devil Chojin that they should all strive to be. Sunshine would loyally fight, kill and even die to become Akuma Shogun's armor without even a second of hesitation.
After Akuma Shogun was beaten by Kinnikuman, Sunshine and Ashuraman would slip away and mock Akuma Shogun from a distance, judging their leader as weak for losing before deciding to further the Devil Chojin faction with their own plans. By the time of Kinnikuman (2011), these feelings subsided.
When Sunshine was tasked with inserting all of the Perfect Origin's dumbbells into the Dial which would erase all of the Perfect Origin including Akuma Shogun, Sunshine was hesitant at first, not knowing if he was worthy to do so and was reluctant to end the life of his master. Ultimately, he would be convinced to do so when Akuma Shogun chose to believe in Sunshine and knew that allowing one of his underlings to end him would be the perfect lesson for all Devil Chojin. When Sunshine inserted the dumbbells, he was crying as he shouted Akuma Shogun's name, thinking that he was about to end him.
Rollerman[]
“ | For the next week, Sunshine and Rollerman were more than brothers, they were one and the same. They woke up at the same time, fed on the same prey, sipped the same blood, trained at the same time and went to bed at the same time... Five or six days passed in a blur and Sunshine began to feel that he was beginning to understand the true nature of Rollerman. | „ |
~ Narration about Sunshine and Rollerman's time together. |
Aside from Ashuraman, Rollerman is the person that Sunshine is the closest to emotionally.
Sunshine was initially impressed by Rollerman's roller, seeing it as the perfect weapon for combat and getting blood to drink and would ask Rollerman to teach him how to use rollers as weapons. The two would first have a student-teacher bond with each other, Sunshine being completely honest with Rollerman about his abilities and their flaws which he hadn't done before.
When Rollerman suggested living with him for a week so Sunshine could understand the rollers, the two would become inseparable. The two would fully understand each other emotionally, they lived the same life for a week willingly and Sunshine quickly became Rollerman's first-ever friend.
“ | He has caused you a lot of trouble, I'm sure! But haven't you been the ones who have been driving him crazy and leaving him all alone? Then you're just as guilty as he is, aren't you? You can't understand how lonely he is. | „ |
~ Sunshine understands Rollerman's mental state. |
When Rollerman was going to be executed by a group of vigilante Justice Chojin, Sunshine rushed over to help him, killing any of them that got in his way while calling out the hypocritical nature. Sunshine was unable to save Rollerman who imparted a pair of rollers made of sand that Sunshine could use perfectly.
In the end, Sunshine would incorporate the roller that Rollerman had made for him into his signature moveset against the Justice Chojin, fulfilling his promise to Rollerman. While the two only spent a week together, they had forged an irreplaceable bond with each other.
Biography[]
Past[]
Most of Sunshine's past is unknown, what is known is that one day Satan would approach Sunshine with an offer to become one of his Six Devil Knights in exchange for immense power. Sunshine accepted and became a Devil Chojin.
Once he became a Devil Chojin, he and Stereo-Cassette King would be trained by Sneagator in order for them to master their ability to transform. This would result in Sunshine being able to fly control his sand body and morph it into any shape he desired after enough image training.
Kinnikuman[]
Sunshine makes his first appearance alongside his allies during the Golden Mask Arc. Sunshine, alongside the other Six Devil Knights, appeared to the weakened Chojins after the Golden Mask was stolen, all six were wearing fake Golden Masks and explained that they were Devil Chojins above the Seven Devil Chojin before revealing the decapitated heads of the Seven Devil Chojin who were killed as punishment.
The Six Devil Knights then fused into a gun and shot themselves off into various points in the world with Sunshine waiting for Kinnikuman.
After Kinnikuman defeated Sneagator and Planetman, he and the Justice Chojin would enter Warsman's body in order to save him and encounter the remaining four members of the Six Devil Knights who square off against the Justice Chojin with Sunshine fight against Geronimo.
Sunshine would manage to massively damage to Geronimo's body, however, Geronimo would damage Sunshine's transformation device and use his Apache War Cry to destroy Sunshine's body, killing him.
Once Akuma Shogun appeared, Sunshine would be revived by him and forced to become his armor along with the rest of the Six Devil Knights. After Akuma Shogun was defeated, Sunshine and Ashuraman would escape and formed a tag team for Ultimate Chojin Tag Tournament.
Before the tournament started, Sunshine and Ashuraman would use a set of cursed dolls to destroy the friendship between the Justice Chojin, making them not want to work together.
Movie 4: Counterattack! The Underground Space Chojin[]
Note: The Kinnikuman movies are non-canonical to the rest of the Kinnikuman anime or manga.
Sunshine would be revived by Hydra King alongside Black Hole, Ashuraman and Black Rain, each of them being powered up by Hydra King with Black Hole becoming New Sunshine and would become members of the Underground Space Chojin. They would invade Earth under Hydra King's command alongside all of the men under their command.
This would turn out to be a distraction used so the Underground Space Chojin could gain Robin Mask's Memo which contained all of the weaknesses of the Justice Chojin. Once Hydra King revealed that he had the memo, New Sunshine and his allies would kidnap Robin Mask while he was distracted and take him to planet Hydra.
After Robin Mask is kidnapped, New Sunshine would travel back to planet Hydra and wait for the Justice Chojin to show up and travel through the arenas filled with their weaknesses to easily defeat them, however, they would soon learn that what Robin Mask considers to be weaknesses are things that the Justice Chojin like and would distract them from their jobs so instead of hurting them, it motivated them even more to save Robin Mask.
New Sunshine would stop Warsman from processing to save Robin Mask, fighting him in a one-on-one battle with New Sunshine beating him down until Robin Mask would use the last of his strength to reveal the weak points of the Underground Space Chojin, allowing Warsman to strike the weak point on New Sunshine's head, making him explode and killing him.
Deep of Muscle 12[]
Sometime between the defeat of Akuma Shogun and the beginning of the Universal Chojin Tag Team, Sunshine would begin to doubt his strength and abilities after he was defeated by Geronimo, a human.
Ashuraman would try to cheer him up but it didn't work. Sunshine wanted a week to himself to train his body while travelling across the world.
Sunshine would travel to Saudi Arabia to become one with the sand there as the start of his training, being fine with the intense heat but he nearly died of dehydration and ran to the nearest dune.
At the dune, Sunshine would see two Chojin fight each other, Rollerman being one of them who would use the roller on his body to crush his opponent and squeeze all of the moisture from their body.
Sunshine would ask Rollerman for the blood he squeezed out of the Chojin he just killed but Rollerman refused to give him any unless he could beat him. Sunshine would get sucked through Rollerman's roller, coming out the other end just fine before grabbing Rollerman from behind and suplexing him.
When Sunshine saw Rollerman get back up, he was ready to attack him but instead, Rollerman offered up some of the blood he had before introducing himself and saying that he knew who Sunshine was. Sunshine would then ask that Rollerman teach him how to make and use a roller in battle, viewing it both as a lethal weapon and a method to get blood to drink.
Sunshine would go and steal two steel rollers from Abu Dhabi, however, Rollerman said that they wouldn't work. The steel rollers would rust because of the blood of his enemies and that Sunshine would have to drop it every time he transformed. Rollerman suggested that Sunshine just transform part of his body into rollers, however, Sunshine told him that he needs to do a lot of image training to transform into something and he couldn't do it in a short amount of time.
Rollerman and Sunshine would come up with the idea that Sunshine should live with Rollerman so that he could understand the roller the best he could.
For the next week, Sunshine and Rollerman would practically become brothers with them becoming closer to each other than they had with anyone else.
Just when Sunshine was about to be taught the roller technique, Rollerman would be captured by a group of humans because he had killed a Justice Chojin. Sunshine would hurry to his execution and would fight against a group of thirty Justice Chojin to save Rollerman from his crucifixion-styled execution.
Sunshine would use his rollers to kill them and when they broke, Rollerman would throw another set of rollers to him. After Sunshine accepted them and looked back at Rollerman, he would realise that Rollerman had thrown his own rollers to Sunshine for him to use, critically injuring him.
Sunshine would look up at Rollerman, telling him that he would save him, however, Rollerman didn't want to continue living with people hunting him down. He thanked Sunshine for spending a week with him, making it the best week of his life before allowing him to have his rollers, made of sand that would suit Sunshine to use and that he should use them against the hypocrites who call themselves Justice Chojin. Rollerman would pass away, leaving Sunshine devastated.
Sunshine would travel back to Japan to meet up with Ashuraman, being motivated to kill the Justice Chojin with his new Cursed Roller while wondering if Devil Chojin can truly get along with each other.
Kinnikuman (2011)[]
Once the Perfect Chojin appeared and after Akuma Shogun opened the way to the Chojin Graveyard, the Six Devil Knights charged in and all went through different doors with Sunshine going through Thingman's door, ending up at the Statue of Liberty.
Thingman grabbed Sunshine's arm when he went to punch him and put him into a chokehold. Thingman let Sunshine go before calling a sand storm which attached itself to the Statue of Liberty, turning it into a Statue of The Man before telling the audience that this Statue of The Man was there before the Statue of Liberty. Thingman then makes a ring on the palm of the statue for him and Sunshine to fight in.
The two Chojin charge at each other, slamming their shoulders against each other and bouncing off of each other because of their equal strength. Sunshine goes in for a kick but Thingman dodges and delivers a lariat but Sunshine's sand body makes Thingman's attack phase through him. To land an attack on him, Thingman produced a loud soundwave but this didn't affect Sunshine who snuck underneath him and threw him into the statue of The Man.
Thingman then realises that he has to spray cement at Sunshine to stop him, making a part of his body hard and easy to hit. Sunshine tried to use his Sunshine Roller to crush Thingman but he fills it with cement, jamming it. Soon Sunshine's entire body would be covered in cement, turning him into a statue.
Now that he can hit him, Thingman can beat on Sunshine but he isn't worried. Thingman suplexes Sunshine but Sunshine catches himself, holding both of their bodies with one arm. Sunshine begins beating on Thingman with his hardened body but he can't even slightly scratch Thingman's dense body which is made from a meteorite.
Thingman uses his hidden shoulder blades to rapidly slash at Sunshine's body, weakening it enough for Thingman to produce an intense soundwave that shatters Sunshine's body into rubble. Sunshine still lives but he can't transform so Thingman walks over to crush Sunshine's head.
Then Sunshine begins to cry about his past and current failures, knowing he's about to die, Sunshine asks for his body to spread across the ocean before Thingman turns Sunshine to sand with his soundwaves. Thingman then picks up the mat and is about to throw it into the ocean but Sunshine reveals that he tricked Thingman, using the mat to heat up so he can form his transformation device, allowing him to form his body again.
Now rebuilt, Sunshine attacks Thingman, having his sand go into the open slits in Thingman's shoulders and pulling out the blades, placing them onto the ground. Sunshine then grabs Thingman and piledrives him into his discarded blades, penetrating his body and making Sunshine win the fight.
Sunshine then takes Thingman's dumbbell and as Thingman rants about the "Inferior Chojin", Sunshine beats him with the Dumbbell which is as hard Thingman, caving in his skull and batting him away.
After beating him, Sunshine would travel to the Chojin Graveyard with The Ninja in order to give the dumbbells that they had earned to Akuma Shogun so he could place them in the Dial. The three of them would travel to Japan's National Stadium to face off against The Man and the surviving members of the Perfect Origin.
Sunshine was going to go fight against Justiceman in order to avenge Ashuraman's loss but Terryman convinced Sunshine to let him fight on his behalf. Sunshine would allow him and would stand by Akuma Shogun to watch all of the fights happen.
After Ganman, Justiceman and Psychoman were all defeated, Sunshine was handed all of the dumbbells by Akuma Shogun and told to place them into the Dial, erasing all of the Perfect Origin including Akuma Shogun. Sunshine was nervous about this at first but Akuma Shogun encouraged him to do so, wanting him to be the new leader of the Devil Chojin and for his faction to be the one to end the era of the Perfect Origin. Sunshine would teleport to the Chojin Graveyard with Black Hole's help. Sunshine would insert all of the dumbbells, waiting for the Perfect Origin to all be erased, however, due to Psychoman's tampering, it didn't work.
The next day, Sunshine would accompany Akuma Shogun and watch his fight against The Man, being told to use it as an example of what a Devil Chojin should truly be. Once Akuma Shogun won the fight, Sunshine and Buffaloman would follow him back to the Demon World.
Kinnikuman Nisei[]
Note: The events of Kinnikuman (2011) are seemingly non-canonical to the events of Kinnikuman Nisei
After being killed during the Ultimate Chojin Tag Tournament, Sunshine would be revived by unknown means, either by his own power or with Satan's help. Sunshine would find Ashuraman but would be devastated to learn that Ashuraman had joined the Justice Chojin. Learning that his best friend had turned against everything Sunshine stood for broke him emotionally, giving him the motivation to want to kill the Justice Chojin even more. Sunshine and the remaining Devil Chojin would team up with the Brutal Chojin and their leader Shimao and the Perfect Chojin and their leader Qilinman to form the dMp and get revenge against the Justice Chojin.
However, because there were only a handful of Devil Chojin, that part of the faction would be treated the harshest and given the least amount of resources or respect. This would motivate Sunshine into training the Devil Chojin so that they could kill the Justice Chojin and take control of the dMp as per the agreement made between Sunshine, Shimao and Qilinman.
Sunshine would require younger Devil Chojin to fight on his behalf since decades of wrestling had left his body broken, his teeth being broken from gritting them too much, his arms being misshapen due to him performing so many suplexes and he lost an eye at some point in the past thirty years. Sunshine would find two young Chojin who would act as his ideal students, the Nightmares consisting of Check Mate and Rex King. He would put both of them through incredibly harsh training until they were some of the strongest fighters of their generation with Check Mate being pushed so fat that he lost the ability to feel any type of pain.
After Mantaro Kinniku had beaten the Bloodshed Gang of Three, Sunshine would have both Check Mate and Rex King attack Osaka and appear on TV to draw out the Justice Chojin so they could be beaten by them. The day before the battle between the Nightmares and the Justice Chojin, Sunshine would go to drink and eat at a bar where he would run into Mantaro and Meat. While there, Sunshine would explain that he wasn't planning on attacking them and that his old age had rendered him impossible to fight. Sunshine would then go onto explain his motivation as well as his plan to use the defeat of the Justice Chojin to take over the dMp.
While they were talking, Terry the Kid would go to fight Rex King so Sunshine would order him to ambush and capture Terry the Kid and hold him in the arena until tomorrow. Sunshine would quickly run away and hide. When he saw Mantaro enter an 18+-only club, he would approach him and use it as blackmail so that Mantaro would act as the referee during the match between Rex King and Terry the Kid. Sunshine would order Rex King not to do any fouls so that Mantaro would call out only Terry the Kid's foul moves, giving Rex King the advantage and breaking the bond between Mantaro and Terry the Kid.
The plan would backfire when Sunshine entered the ring just as Rex King was about to land the killing blow on Terry the Kid, Mantaro would pull Terry the Kid away from the attack and halt the match until Sunshine left the ring.
Sunshine would change his strategy by manipulating Terry the Kid's insecurity about being compared to his father and comparing his moves to his father's making Terry the Kid start to use moves he couldn't handle. But Terry the Kid would continue using his moves, leading to Sunshine ordering Rex King into switching strategies by "accidentally" attacking Mantaro, making Terry the Kid have to block the attacks.
Unfortunately for Sunshine, Terry the Kid would figure out Rex King's weakness to the cold and would use his body like a fan to blow the cold air from the air conditioning at Rex King, freezing his body before shattering it to pieces.
Sunshine would then call upon Check Mate to be the next to fight against the Justice Chojin.
After Mantaro defeated Check Mate, Qilinman and Shimao would activate their trap, launching a spear at Sunshine, stabbing through his chest in an attempt to kill him, however, it failed. Sunshine would then reveal that he had planned for Qilinman and Shimao to betray him and had all of the Devil Chojin he was able to contact attack the dMp base and plant explosives inside, blowing up the base along with Qilinman and Shimao, ending most of the dMp in the blink of an eye.
Sunshine would then carry Check Mate away, saying that he would heal his injuries and train him so that the Devil Chojin could defeat the Justice Chojin and rule the world.
After this, Sunshine isn't seen again until the Demon Seed arc. Sunshine is seen drinking his sorrows in a bar as the news reports on the Demon Seed. Sunshine belittles the Demon Seed, calling them weak unlike the Devil Chojin of the past. Just then, Sunshine sensed something that caught his interest and would quickly run and swim over to the island where the last two of the Demon Seed were fighting.
Quotes[]
Kinnikuman Nisei[]
“ | Rex King, on the honor of the dMp and the Nightmares, I forbid you to give up! If you're even thinking of surrender, I'll get in there and break your neck myself! | „ |
~ Sunshine threatening Rex King |
“ | Heh heh. Hey, Mantaro! The phrase 'give up' is negative, too, so it's not in Check Mate's dictionary! The only words I granted Check Mate are these: kill, hit, crush, victory! And the lyrics of the triumphant songs! He knows only positive ideas! | „ |
~ Sunshine explaining how he molded Check Mate |
Powers and Abilities[]
- Chojin Physiology: As a Chojin granted strength by Satan, Sunshine has immense strength, speed and durability far above most other Chojin who already have the ability to perform superhuman feats. Other abilities that Chojin have that Sunshine likely has is the ability to grow to be as large as a building and the ability to fly without wings or thrusters, even in the vacuum of space.
- Sand Body: Sunshine's body is entirely made up of sand. With his sand and the transformation device in his chest, Sunshine is able to completely shapeshift his body into whatever shape he wants, whether it be a pool of sand or spikes. Sunshine can also use his sand shapeshifting in order to fly on gusts of wind and sink into already existing bodies of sand.
- Cursed Roller: Inside Sunshine's body is a pair of rollers, Sunshine uses these rollers to grind up anyone he shoves into the front of it or shoot anything that is placed into the back of it. Because it is made of sand, whenever Sunshine transforms, it transforms with him. The Cursed Roller is also useful for getting blood from an opponent for Sunshine to drink since he needs moisture to survive.
Trivia[]
- Just like most of the characters in the Kinnikuman series, Sunshine's design is fan-submitted being created by Baba of Miyagi Prefecture.
- Sunshine is the tallest non-Kaiju character in the Kinnikuman series being 9 foot 8 inches tall, making him taller than both Neptune King and The Man.
