~ Super Sonic after reverting back to his destructive side during the comic's final issue |
Super Sonic, also known by fans as Fleetway Super Sonic or Evil Super Sonic, is one of the overarching antagonists of Fleetway's Sonic the Comic.
He is a destructive, psychotic and violent entity and transformation of Sonic who takes over his body whenever he is in trouble or has too much stress. He was created during the radiation exposure of the chaos emeralds, taking over his possession to destroy everyone as he wish. However, he now existed as a separate entity, being sent to the special zone and now destroying everyone or thing as he wish.
In Sonic the Comic, things work very differently than they do in traditional Sonic settings and when Sonic becomes his famous alter-ego, his inner darkness is unleashed in a spectacular, world-shattering flurry of unbridled violence.
Things only got worse for Mobius when Sonic managed to rid himself of Super Sonic's influence - effectively creating a new entity as Super Sonic became a separate being in his own right, a type of "Anti-Sonic" with the power to destroy entire worlds: he would become one of the more powerful villains in Sonic the Comic, but also one of the more rare (perhaps due to his immense power-level).
Appearance[]
Super Sonic, due to being a transformation of the original Sonic the Hedgehog, is an anthropomorphic hedgehog who wears red striped shoes and white gloves. Unlike Sonic, Super Sonic’s quills are yellow, unkept, and tend to curve upwards, and his pupils are red spirals. Super Sonic notably has sharp fangs, and his eyebrows tend to be jagged in appearance.
Personality[]
Cruel and utterly chaotic, Super Sonic lacks the heroism of his mainline counterpart, instead becoming extremely dangerous when let loose. Often taunting his foes before striking, Super Sonic is sadistic, often saving the heroes from danger just for the pleasure of killing them all himself, and prolonging said killings just to make things more enjoyable for himself.
The most dangerous aspect of Super Sonic seems to be boredom and ego, being the main factors as to why he acts so vitriolic. Notably, these traits can actually be used against him, as once he saved an entire village from a volcano simply because Tails suggested that Super Sonic wouldn't be able to.
Super Sonic has a vitriolic hatred towards Sonic and his friends, likely for keeping him locked away to prevent him from being a threat. Super Sonic is also incapable of teaming up with any of the other villains, as any attempts at doing so only result in Super Sonic defecting or betraying them later on due to caring for nothing but utter destruction.
During a period of time, Super Sonic suffered from amnesia and drained from his power, and as a result, had his personality shift more closely to his more heroic counterpart. During this time, he's haunted by visions of a demon, unknowing that this was his past self, and is utterly terrified of the monster he once was.
Super Sonic's amnesiatic self is also capable of forming genuine relationships with people, best exemplified by Ebony the Cat. He's also able to fit into day-to-day life, able to work a job at The Groovy Train, and overall able to live a peaceful and fulfilling life with his friends.
Unfortunately, this side of Super Sonic is left in a dilemma. As a being of pure Chaos Energy, he needs the power of the Emeralds to continue living, or else he'll start dying. However, if he were to be charged too much, or if he were to use his powers, he would instantly revert to his more chaotic and destructive side.
Biography[]
Sonic the Comic[]
Beginnings of Mania[]
Shortly after the events of the comic's version of the first Sonic the Hedgehog game, Sonic had regained all of the Chaos Emeralds, and attempted to bring them to his base. Unbeknownst to him, the Emeralds become unstable when taken out of their extreme conditions, and will radiate enough energy to warp to the Special Stage while giving off bursts of energy. Sonic, having taken the brunt of this energy, morphed into Super Sonic for the first time, first demonstrating his power by flying through his own roof before becoming depowered in the Swampland Zone.
Sometime before the events of the comic, Tails had noted to have seen Super Sonic on only one occasion, being an incident where he absorbed too many rings. The specifics of the event are unknown, but it’s likely that this happened during the events of the comic's version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
Years later, Super Sonic would re-emerge once more when Sonic and Tails were called to clean up an oil spill over at the Oil Ocean Zone. During this time, a Badnik ambushed the duo and sent Sonic spiraling down into the oily depths before setting the hedgehog ablaze. Fortunately, the hedgehog survived, but unfortunately, the near-death experience caused him to morph into Super Sonic. He defeated the Badnik, only to instantly turn on the Animal inside, alongside everyone else. His rampage was easily stopped by Tails reminding him of why they were there.
However, such a strategy could only work for so long, and as time went on, Super Sonic only became more chaotic and deadly, and much harder to control. From savagely beating up Knuckles after being dosed in Chaos Energy to continuing attacking Commander Brutus even when he was using Amy Rose as a hostage, Super Sonic has proven time and time again that he has no qualms about having his normal self's friends in the crossfire.
Fortunately, during this time, it was relatively easy to keep him from destroying everything. His power could be redirected if someone could get into his head enough, and in the instances he didn't, his power would normally run out before he could cause too much damage.
Running Wild[]
Perhaps Super Sonic's most dangerous appearance would come after Sonic accidentally fell into a chamber containing all six of the Chaos Emeralds, alongside the Master Emerald. The large amount of Chaos Energy coursing through his veins would make Super Sonic even more deranged, and purely on a whim, he would go directly after Amy Rose in an attempt to kill her. While she and Tails managed to escape by faking their deaths, by the time Sonic came to his senses, the surrounding rubble made him believe that he had killed the Freedom Fighters, and forced himself into exile.
For the period of time when Sonic was forced to fend for himself, Super Sonic continued to manifest in times of stress or danger. Fortunately, the Freedom Fighters were able to track down the hedgehog due to the amount of Chaos Energy he leaves behind. In an attempt to put an end to Super Sonic and free Sonic's true self from this madness, the Freedom Fighters tried to channel the energy away from Sonic and into a Star Post, but due to just how much energy there was, the energy would morph into Super Sonic, now letting the two become separate entities. While Sonic was no longer tormented by the thought of turning evil, he now has even bigger fish to fry as Super Sonic was now on the loose in the Special Zone.
The next time Super Sonic is seen, it was revealed that he had allied himself with Lord Sidewinder, a crime lord from the Special Zone. Unfortunately for him, it turned out that Super Sonic just used Sidewinder to lure the original Sonic directly to Super, and after getting exactly what he wanted, he betrayed the crime lord by utterly destroying his mansion before turning his attention directly to everyone inside. In the nick of time, however, the Chaotix Crew arrived at the sight of their arch-enemy's mansion completely wrecked. With one chaotic battle ensuing, the Chaotix would eventually lock up Super Sonic inside the Omni-Viewer, who would slow down time to a crawl to prevent Super Sonic from escaping. Afterwards, the Omni-Viewer locked himself up in the Black Asteroid to even further ensure that Super Sonic would never escape.
...But of course, not even all of that would be enough to stop Super Sonic.
Somehow, Super Sonic had been quickly building up energy despite being nearly frozen in time. The sheer amount of pressure essentially turned him into a bomb, forcing the Omni-Viewer to release Super Sonic from captivity. Even after escaping from the time warp, Super Sonic continued to charge up in order to blast the place into smithereens. Quickly, the original Sonic noticed that the impending blast would cause a planet-wide EMP, ending the rule of Dr. Robotnik. After realizing this, Sonic told the Omni-Viewer to teleport the Black Asteroid directly to Mobius right before the explosion, where Sonic was instantly proven right.
Immediately after being released, Super Sonic rushed to the Freedom Fighters in an attempt to kill them, only to realize that the blast had taken up so much energy that his power had been drained and could no longer store any more of it. Super Sonic runs off, no longer a threat.
Whatever Happened to Super Sonic?[]
While Super Sonic was indirectly used for good, the sheer amount of energy drained has changed Super Sonic for the better, as it turned out that over time, he had lost any memory of who he once was.
Alone from anyone who could possibly know him, Super Sonic roamed the streets of Mobius, confused and without any sort of purpose or knowledge. It wasn't until a kind old lady named Madge noticed him and took him in that he had any sort of positive relation in his life.
However, it wouldn't last.
Super Sonic had been plagued by nightmares about a golden demon who killed everyone, and is coming for him next, unaware that this demonic entity was his former self. Not knowing who this figure is, and tired of the nightmares, Super Sonic went off on his own, with a little bit of money as a final gift from Madge.
Of course, having a limited amount of money with no way to make income does come with the downside of running out at some point, so Super Sonic decided to apply for a job at the famed coffee bar known as The Groovy Train, owned by the witch Ebony and psychic Pyjamas. While Pyjamas is skeptical at first after sensing evil inside Super Sonic, Ebony was accepting of the golden hedgehog and tried to restore his memories to see who he was. Immediately afterwards, Bio-Hazard, one of Sidewinder’s minions, attacked the coffee bar to take Super Sonic back to Sidewinder. In an attempt to evade him, Super Sonic tried to tap into his powers, but would only cause his wilder and destructive side to reemerge. After defeating Bio-Hazard, Super Sonic vowed to never use his powers again, and lived a peaceful life with Ebony and Pyjamas.
Point of No Return[]
But of course, that wouldn't last either.
As it turned out, as a being of pure energy, Super Sonic was slowly dying due to running out of Chaos Energy over time. Fortunately, Sonic just so happened to be fighting Chaos, who planned to use the Chaos Emeralds after stealing them from Robotnik's Retreat. Planning to knock out two birds with one stone, Super Sonic absorbed Chaos' energy in an attempt to ensure his own existence.
While Super Sonic seemed passive for a short amount of time, things would quickly turn sour as all that energy had caused Super Sonic to go berserk again. Holding back just to prolong the deaths of everyone there, Super Sonic planned to escape to the open world afterwards, but is directly confronted by Sonic. As the two hedgehogs fought, Ebony used a spell to merge the two back into the same body once more, ending the Golden Devil's rampage.
With no idea as to whether or not Super Sonic will return, the original Sonic, alongside the Freedom Fighters, vow to deal with Super Sonic, and all other threats like him, as they have always have.

Act 1[]
Though Super Sonic remained merged with the original, Ebony never lost hope of restoring her friend. Dr. Zachary attempted to make Sonic go Super once again, but was stopped in time. Sonic did go Super while fighting Shadow on board the Death Carrier, but only briefly. Another instance when Super Sonic almost broke free was when Ebony released his captured essense in Sonic's presence, but the Order of Magick contained the hedgehog until he went back to normal.
Eventually, however, Sonic would be forcibly transformed into Super by the leader of the Ultimax, Dexter Bagstille, in an attempt to destroy both him and Robotnik for good. As expected, he failed to control the psychopathic entity. Super Sonic took over Sonic's body permanently, and spent the next seven decades destroying everything on Mobius. As years went by, people forgot about Sonic's existence, dubbing his evil self "Iblis". Eventually, the last few survivors were able to send Silver the Hedgehog back in time to prevent the disaster. Ultimately, his interference helped the heroes avoid defeat at Super Sonic's hands. When Sonic had Chaos Energy syphoned out of his body, he turned back to normal, and Super Sonic inexplicably went missing, with Sonic no longer turning into him in times of stress.
Exit: Sonic[]
Many years into the future, Super Sonic, now in a separate body once again, teamed up with Grimer and Dr. Robotnik to defeat Sonic and the Freedom Fighter once and for all. When he and Grimer arrived on Floating Island to free Robotnik, Super noticed a device that he assumed was meant to cure Sonic of his illness, which ended up damaged by the villains, but was still operable. During the fight, Super Sonic grew frustrated with Robotnik and attempted to kill him, but Grimer shielded his master from the attack, leaving the doctor wounded, but still alive. Super then attacked Sonic and seemingly vaporized his body. He, however, learned soon after that the device wasn't meant to cure the hedgehog, but rather to remove Chaos Energy from his body as part of Porker's experiment with the Chaos Emeralds. At the same time, Super Sonic turned into the real Sonic, seemingly for good this time. Porker then revealed that in the end, there was no such person as "Super Sonic", and his existence was merely a result of Sonic's negative qualities ending up in a different quantum frequency.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Super Strength: Perhaps his most defining power, Super Sonic is incredibly strong, defeating opponents with ease, even ones that Sonic would normally have trouble defeating on his own. Problems arise due to his chaotic and destructive personality, leaving a trail of destruction in his path. Notably, Super Sonic was able to tear through Megatal, a substance regarded as nearly impossible to destroy.
- Super Speed: Just like his much less hostile side, Super Sonic is one of the fastest things alive, with the Chaos Energy only further boosting his speed.
- Invincibility: Super Sonic is flat out invulnerable to nearly any physical threat, and simply shrugs off attacks as if they're nothing. Due to this, other methods must be used in order to incapacitate him.
- Flight: Due to the Chaos Emerald's power, Super Sonic has been granted the ability to fly.
- Energy Manipulation: Due to the Chaos Energy radiating inside him, Super Sonic is able to generate and manipulate said energy at will, typically having it manifest as beams or shields. Trivia[]
- Super Sonic could have inspired the evil Super Sonic from the Archie Comics continuity, who was temporarily separated from that continuity's Sonic by the Red Chaos Emeralds. Archie's evil Super Sonic has a similar personality and powers to STC Super Sonic.
- Speaking of his unspeakable cruelty, Super Sonic is one of the deadliest villains in Sonic the Comic franchise due to nearly killing Sonic's friends by his own hands and arguably being the most powerful entity in the series. But however, he becomes benign and friendly for a time after he was drained of most of his Chaos energy was drained, only for his insanity to return once he regained his full power.
- In Super Sonic's very first appearance, his quills remained pointing downwards after his transformation. In later appearances, Super Sonic's quills were depicted pointing upwards to be consistent with his games appearances.
- When writer Nigel Kitching was asked if he had any future plans for Super Sonic before the comic's cancellation, he pointed out that Ebony, despite being Super's friend, had not seemed upset when he was destroyed. Kitching mentioned an idea that perhaps Ebony had secretly used her magic to save him, although he had not planned out any details. He suggested that Super Sonic may not have been rejoined to Sonic as everyone believed, but that he might now be part of Ebony just as he was once a part of Sonic.
