Surgat is a supporting antagonist in the 1995 horror video game I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, based on the 1967 short story of same name by the late Harlan Ellison.
Biography[]
First appearing in Ted's scenario of AM's game, Surgat shows up in the summoning circle after the witch is knocked out. There, he tells Ted that he wishes to return back to his "sphere of origin", and says that now that he has been summoned, he can only leave once a deal has been made. He offers Ted a chance to betray Ellen by giving him her soul in exchange for a portal to the surface world.
If Ted agrees, Surgat steals Ellen's soul (not really, as AM has control over the real Ellen, and the version in Ted's story is merely a copy), but AM drags Ted back to his torture chamber before he can escape.
If Ted refuses, or asks for time to consider, the story continues on track to get the good ending, as then Ted can later bring Surgat the Devil in exchange for that portal to the surface world, however, just as before, AM drags Ted back to his torture chamber before he can leave. Doing this, however, aligns the story up on track for the good ending.
Surgat later re-appears in the final stage of the game, when the five humans are trying to destroy AM once and for all. Surgat tells the current human, whichever the player selected at that time, that there is a lunar base on the Moon containing more humans, attempting to use this information to gain favour among the human, so that they may give them the Totem of Entropy.
If the human gives Surgat the Totem of Entropy, Surgat will use it to kill both the Russian and Chinese Supercomputers, before surrendering the totem to AM, before revealing his loyalty was always to AM, and telling the human that AM has a special punishment in mind for them. AM will then turn the human into the mouthless slug monster, resulting in a bad ending.
If the human does not give Surgat the Totem of Entropy, the Russian and Chinese Supercomputers will come and purge Surgat's programming, erasing him from existence, as they refer to him of a servant of AM that is no match for them. The game will then continue on track for the Good Ending.
