Susano’o no Mikoto is a supporting antagonist in the manga/anime series Record of Ragnarok.
He is the main antagonist of the Tenth Round of the Ragnarok Tournament.
Susano'o no Mikoto is the God of Raging Winds and Storms belonging to the Shinto Pantheon and the Gods' Strongest Godslayer, as well as one of the Three Noble Gods who rule the world on Izanagi's orders, before abandoning the group to learn swordsmanship from the Humans, and the younger brother of Amaterasu Okami and Tsukuyomi no Mikoto. He is also the Gods' representative of the Gods Fighters during the Tenth Round, where he faces Soji Okita as the Humans' representative of the Einherjar.
Appearance[]
Susano'o has the appearance of a tall and mighty God. He has long blue hair with a few grey strands in front and thick cloud-shaped blue eyebrows. He wears a huge copper-colored pauldron on his left shoulder with cloud-shaped patterns, with a long copper-colored wrist guard on his left arm, while on his right arm he wears a light brown vambrace that reaches up to his hand. On the upper part of his body he wears a white and blue kimono with a single long white sleeve on the left arm, held up by a red belt with a huge lace closed in the shape of a bow. He wears long blue trousers that cover almost all of his feet and high-tech blue geta. When he is not fighting, he always carries his sword wrapped in bandages and keeps it resting on his right shoulder, holding it with the aforementioned hand.
When he was part of the Three Noble Gods, Susano'o wore a dress including long-sleeved shirt, a long cloak, long trousers with laces at the knees and under a long kilt held up by a belt, and boots. He wore a scarf which, passing under his armpits, went over his head and then down to his ankles. He wore two necklaces, one of pearls and one of skulls, and wore a crown. While training to learn the art of swordsmanship, he wore a long blue beard and long blue hair down.
Personality[]
Susano'o appears to be a very serious and powerful God and his expression tends to be severe, in fact when he reached the meeting of the Gods Fighters his only presence is was enough to make Ares feel like he was being crushed. Despite his serious demeanor, Susano'o can be even more light-hearted. Susano'o is a very stubborn individual, and when he learned that Soji Okita would be the one to fight in the Tenth Round he volunteered to fight and did not move from that position, ignoring the fact that the other Gods had chosen Anubis to fight and forcing the latter to give up his place. Nonetheless, Susano'o is devoted to his father, the Shinto God of Creation Izanagi, and does everything he orders.
Susano'o has a very deep love for the sword he created. So much so that he was even impressed by the fact that Humans were able to cultivate it and create the art of swordsmen, making it evolve over the course of their long history. This is what led Susano'o to understand that the sword has no limits, that it has infinite potential and that excited him to the point of being the first God to ask Humans for help in learning something, despite this being considered an outrage by the Gods. Susano'o is the God who knows the potential of Humans more than anyone else and the first to believe in them, going so far as to abandon the Three Noble Gods and go against his siblings Amaterasu Okami and Tsukuyomi no Mikoto to learn what Humans have created with the sword. He admires Human swordsmen so much that, when Okita was sick with tuberculosis and still continued to train, he felt sorry for him and at the same time felt admiration for him.
Susano'o is proud to be worshiped by Humans and to be an inspiration for new sword techniques, and loves anything that can make his blood boil with excitement. Among all the swordsmen in Human history, Susano'o has great respect for the swordsmen of the Bakumatsu era in Japan, which he considers his "dreamland", as they were able to refine the art of the sword during that time taking it to its peak and creating the art of "murder". Susano'o's greatest wish was the chance to fight the one who was at the height of murders during the Bakumatsu era: Soji Okita. When he realizes his wish, he understands that his life was destined to reach this point and thanks Okita for this, calling him the greatest and thanking him for allowing him to reach the peak of his swordsmanship. Susano'o is also proud of his title of "Godslayer", and one of the other reasons he volunteered for the Tenth Round is that he is aware that Okita is known as "Manslayer" and therefore deems him his most suitable opponent.
Biography[]
Susano'o no Mikoto is the Shinto God of Raging Winds and Storms, created together with his major siblings Amaterasu Okami and Tsukuyomi no Mikoto as one of the Three Noble Gods by the Shinto God of Creation Izanagi, who given orders to rule the world, entrusting Susano'o with command of the Earth. Thus, wielding the sword Totsuka-no-Tsurugi, Susano'o travels the world defeating Gods and Demons such as Yamata no Orochi, in which Susano'o finds the sword Ame-no-Murakumo no Tsurugi which becomes his new main weapon, who threaten Humanity and Earth.
Several years later, Susano'o sees a boy who, using the sword, manages to defeat a Demon before his intervention, and upon questioning him he understands that the boy, inspired by Susano'o, has perfected the sword, creating the art of swordsmen. Susano'o is so impressed that he wants to learn the art of swordsmanship himself, however both Amaterasu Okami and Tsukuyomi no Mikoto oppose this decision, which pushes Susano'o to decide to abandon the Three Noble Gods because the art of swordsmen has no limits and he considers it too interesting. Amaterasu at that point decides to agree and have Susano'o learn the art of swordsmanship, observing the Humans however and without being taught it directly, but in exchange she banishes Susano'o from Takamagahara forever for having damaged the dignity of the Gods.
Susano'o accepts the decision and, having descended to Earth, spends his entire life observing Humans perfect the art of swordsmen and learning it himself by observing Humans, becoming especially passionate about Bakumatsu era of Japan, where Humans learned to use the art of swordsmen to kill. During this era, Susano'o observes Soji Okita suffering from tuberculosis continuing to train despite everything, and this leads him to feel admiration and respect towards him, as well as feeling sorry for him. Susano'o has the sword Ame-no-Murakumo no Tsurugi modified by the combined efforts of the Humans Yasutsuna Hoki, Munechika Sanjo and Kunitsuna Awataguchi and the Gods Hephaestus and Kanayagokami, thus transforming it into the katana Onikiri Ame-no-Murakumo, the most mighty of the Heavens which becomes his new main Divine Weapon.
Millennia after his abandonment by the Three Noble Gods, when the Ragnarok Tournament is proclaimed, Susano'o is chosen by Zeus as one of the Gods Fighters to represent the Gods during the competition. At the end of the Ninth Round, Hermes warns Susano'o that the Human fighting in the Tenth Round would be Soji Okita, so Susano'o reaches the meeting between the Gods Fighters left and prevents Anubis from fighting in the Tenth Round, replacing him in the match as he is eager to face his Human counterpart.
Susano'o chooses Kyoto at the end of the Edo Period as the ring for the Tenth Round, as a fan of the Bakumatsu era where Humans were able to bring the art of the sword to its peak, and reveals that he wanted to challenge Okita also because he is the leading exponent of that pinnacle. Susano'o no Mikoto then fights in the Tenth Round, representing the Gods, against Soji Okita, representing Humans, and in the end, despite managing to reach the peak of the swordsmen during the match, Susano'o is defeated and killed by Okita, even though he claims to have shown off the art he loves so much.
Powers and Abilities[]
Overall Abilities: Susano'o is one of the most powerful Shinto Gods ever, second only to the Shinto God of Creation Izanagi, and he is powerful enough to have been chosen to participate in the Ragnarok Tournament. Susano'o also has some form of presence felt by Ares, as the Greek God of War felt his body feel very heavy when Susano'o entered the room where the others Gods Fighters were. Additionally, Ares revealed that simply being around Susano'o makes him feel like he's being crushed. Susano'o possesses remarkable speed, allowing him to keep up with Soji Okita, fast enough to surprise the Gods themselves even without having pumped the blood of his heart to use his full power, and counter his attacks while admitting that he couldn't escape it. Susano'o knows how to adapt to every situation, even when he is at a disadvantage or is missing some limbs, to turn the situation to his advantage.
Divine Physiology: As a God, Susano'o possesses physical abilities far superior to those of any ordinary Human. His body cannot be damaged by mortal weapons, however it can still be damaged by unarmed attacks from individuals with superhuman strength and Divine Weapons. Also, like the other Gods, Susano'o has an unlimited lifespan and cannot die of old age. Susano'o's strength is so great that he was able to easily defeat both Yamata no Orochi and all the other Gods and Demons he had to face to protect the Earth. Susano'o is also able to fire a very powerful blow capable of demolishing an entire city, after charging it in a pose that leaves no openings for the opponent to try to stop him, and to repel opposing attacks from every direction thanks to a technique learned while remaining eight years on the top of a mountain. Susano'o has an immense pain threshold, managing to feel little pain and continue fighting even after losing half his left foot and his entire left hip.
Master Swordsman: Since he is said to be the "God of Sword", Susano'o no Mikoto possesses Divine abilities in the use of the katana swords of Japan and be the strongest in Valhalla in this art. Initially Susano'o was only able to use the sword to win with a single blow, but after seeing the art of the Human swordsmen he observed them over the millennia and learned their techniques, thus learning the art of the swordsmen from Humans themselves. Initially Susano'o's main sword was the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi, however after defeating Yamata no Orochi he finds the sword Ame-no-Murakumo no Tsurugi inside the Demon, which becomes his new main sword. Afterwards, his main sword, considered the best of all, becomes the katana Onikiri Ame-no-Murakumo, which is the sword Ame-no-Murakumo no Tsurugi forged into a katana by the Humans Yasutsuna Hoki, Munechika Sanjo and Kunitsuna Awataguchi and the Gods Hephaestus and Kanayagokami. Susano'o is also able, by placing himself in a basic sword art fighting position, to use every existing sword technique, what he calls his "everything". With it, according to Kojiro Sasaki, Susano'o has not only mastered every existing sword technique, but has also gone "further" with each of them, and this allows him to easily parry Okita's blows, despite the immense speed of the latter. Susano'o manages to fire his best blows using his left hand to charge them.
Matter Manipulation: During his battle with Soji Okita, Susano'o no Mikoto understands how to make the most of his skills as a swordsman and, raising his hands in the air as a prayer, manipulate the air to generate an invisible sword, so powerful as to be capable of cutting the bones of his opponent with a single blow, leaving everything else unharmed. Susano'o moves the invisible sword as if it were a child playing, and calls this technique the peak of his swordsmanship. However, achieving this technique involves serious risks, as it inevitably leads to the death of the user, even if he is a God.
Shapeshifting: Susano'o has the unique ability to transform into a three-legged raven, and in this form he is capable of flight and observe everything. It is unknown whether Susano'o is capable of transforming into other animals and creatures or not.
