Sweet Tooth is the mascot of the game series Twisted Metal as a whole and one of the playable characters in the game Twisted Metal: Black. A dangerous and deranged serial killer whose action affect several different characters in the game, Sweet Tooth is determined to put an end to his curse that causes him nonstop pain so that he can then continue his killing spree. He is ultimately shown to be the split personality of Marcus Kane, and the entire world the game takes place in is all just a figment of his crazed mind.
Sweet Tooth is played by J.S. Gilbert who also voiced Agent Stone, No-Face and would reprise Sweet Tooth in both PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and Twisted Metal (2012).
History[]
Not much is known about Needles Kane's past other than he apparently killed his first victim at an early age to which he did as natural as it was to breathe for most. It didn't take his father long to realize what Needles' was doing, in fear his father quickly ran taking Needles' brother to protect them though Needles seemed indifferent to this and continued to use his ice cream truck to lure in victims of all ages including Axel's wife. Over time Needles became known as Sweet Tooth and was able to kill at least twenty-three people before eventually captured. After a short trial Sweet Tooth was convicted for his crimes and sentenced to death by electric chair, as he was electrocuted a preacher cursed Sweet Tooth by praying God to burn him in the flames of Hell forever. As suddenly Sweet Tooth's head caught fire, he broke free and killed three officers before being able to put on his mask, presumably he either escaped briefly or was able to be restrained there. For the next three months Sweet Tooth was locked away in the Blackfield Asylum in solitary confinement until Calypso offered him a chance to enter Twisted Metal. When he heard Calypso promised he could cure his curse Sweet Tooth decided to fight his urge to kill him for now.
Depending on the ending his fate varies to an extent, while in all outside his own he presumably dies but a few do mention him specifically. In Yellow Jacket's ending his younger brother unintentionally kills him and mentions how their father warned him that Sweet Tooth was dangerous and to keep his distance, in this ending Calypso also mentions that he intended for Sweet Tooth to take over for him eventually but now his brother would now have to do before destroying the remote that allowed him to control their dead father's corpse instead of reviving him as Calypso promised the little brother. In Axel's ending Sweet Tooth is chained to a wall and brags to Axel on how his wife begged for Axel to save her while Sweet Tooth took his time killing her. In Sweet Tooth's own ending however he confronts Calypso who offers him a vial with the preacher's blood but tells Sweet Tooth that he'd need to stop killing after drinking it or the curse would return. Refusing to repent his crimes and give up killing, Sweet Tooth smashes the vial and kills Calypso, bragging that while he's cursed, he will become the world's most infamous serial killer.
Appearance[]
Sweet Tooth is shown to be a large Caucasian male with one visible red eye, bald scalp, polka dot pants and a disturbing one eyed clown mask. Sweet Tooth also has three red band tattoos across one of his arms and a harness over his bare chest.
Personality[]
Sweet Tooth is defined by his sadism and to kill beyond anything else, to do this he would use his ice cream truck to lure victims into a false sense of security and brutally kill anyone he could get near. He is shown to enjoy taunting some victims like Axel, shipping him parts of his dismembered wife for no reason than to prolong the suffering of the man. He seemingly doesn't even value his own life, during his own execution even as he heard at least one hundred people came to hear of his death he was only upset more didn't come to watch him die. This is also reinforced with Axel's ending as even when chained to a wall with a gun pointed at him, Sweet Tooth instead of showing fear only provokes Axel by taunting him on how his wife begged for her life and for Axel to save her. Even before the curse Sweet Tooth also showed dislike for preachers, mocking how some wanted to save his soul but after the curse becomes embittered at the one who cursed him, furiously he admits that now he believes in curses. Throughout loading screens Sweet Tooth reveals both a hypocritical side and a very dark sense of humor namely condemning the preacher for doing horrible things. He also admits that it isn't right for someone's head to be set on fire before stating unless he is the one to do it.
Powers and Abilities[]
Sweet Tooth is shown to be very strong physically with him being able to kill three officers in less than a minute right after a failed execution attempt. He is also shown to have a high pain tolerance as despite his head being on fire for months he is still able to function in some fashion though he admits it is getting harder as time goes on, seemingly though he is able to manage as he decides he can still be a killer for the foreseeable future after deciding the cure isn't worth what it'd cost to end it.

- According to his patient file he suffers from insomnia and some unknown psychotic disorder that can't be treated.
- Twisted Metal: Black is implied to all take place in the mind of Sweet Tooth due to Minion's coded messages.
- Originally, Sweet Tooth was meant to of killed Axel's son instead of his wife, this was however changed for some reason prior to the games release, likely because it would be too extreme and given an Adults Only rating instead of the Mature rating.
- This major redesign has become his iconic look and the one used throughout several different adaptions since with minimal to no changes.
- Sweet Tooth's physical shape varies; in some shots he appears to be a bit overweight and other shots including the selection screen more muscular.
