“ | We call them symbiotes. | „ |
~ Dora Skirth to Eddie Brock. |
The Symbiotes are the main antagonists of the Venom trilogy in Sony's Spider-Man Universe. They are an extraterrestrial species brought to Earth by the Life Foundation and require human hosts in order to survive.
Once merged with their hosts, they devour said hosts' internal organs and consume them from inside out, killing them in the long run. This can be avoided if the symbiote feeds enough on certain chemical (most likely phenethylamine) which is found in either the human brain or chocolate to keep itself and the host stable and healthy, and in addition, the process can be halted with a compatible host.
Biography[]
Sony's Spider-Man Universe[]
Background[]
Prior to the existence of the Universe, the primordial god, Knull, ruled over a realm of darkness. The Universe then emerged into existence, spreading light and overtaking his once pitch-black domain. In response, Knull created the Symbiotes to help him eliminate all life and shroud the cosmos back into darkness. However, after conquering and destroying many worlds, the Symbiotes betrayed their creator and imprisoned Knull on a Spire throne on their homeworld of Klyntar. With their creator locked away, the Symbiotes spread across the Universe on their own to find new homes.
Venom[]
In the year 2018, four Symbiotes were discovered on a comet by the Life Foundation. While transporting them back to Earth, one Symbiote, Riot, escaped his containment and possessed a crewmember, causing the rocket to crash land in Miri, Malaysia. From the wreckage, Riot's host, having survived thanks to the Symbiote, was taken by ER teams, while the 3 remaining symbiotes were retrieved and sent to the Life Foundation's headquarters in San Francisco. Riot would therefore spend the next 6 months jumping from several hosts as he made his way from Malaysia to the Life Foundation HQ himself.
During the 6 months, Carlton Drake used the 3 symbiotes and countless human subjects in his experiments to achieve symbiosis between human and symbiote. These experiments resulted in a number of human casualties as the symbiotes killed hosts who were not suitable for them. Unable to find a perfect host, one symbiote dies. Of the two that remain, the symbiote Venom escaped the facility by bonding with Eddie Brock while he was trespassing in the labs. The remaining symbiote was then left to bond with Dora Skirth as punishment for her betrayal, leading to both of them dying.[1]
Riot had managed to arrived at the Life Foundation lab and bonded with Drake. Achieving symbiosis, the two made a plan to use the company's rocket and transport more symbiotes to Earth. However, they were confronted by both Venom and Eddie Brock. The symbiotes and their hosts fought, but Riot eventually stabbed Eddie through the chest, killing him before boarding the rocket. Venom however, revived Eddie and used the blade Riot stabbed Eddie with to cut open the rocket's fuel tank, blowing it up and killing Riot and Drake.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage[]
When Eddie and Venom visited Cletus Kasady for last time at San Quentin's prison when Venom defended Eddie against Cletus, he bites Brock's hand with Venom's blood, after Venom's and Eddie's fight, a red symbiote freed Kasady from the prision, after Shriek's rescue at Revencroft Venom and Carnage with Barrison fought at Catedral Grace, and later Carnage dies. But after Patrick Mulligan was infected by Carnage before his death, he fused with a new symbiote Toxin.

Trivia[]
- In the comics, the symbiotes are a species of inorganic, amorphous, symbiotic extraterrestrials from the planet Klyntar that were created from the "living abyss" at the beginning of the universe by the primordial deity Knull. They can bond with a host, creating a symbiotic bond, and grant them superhuman abilities. The same bond also allows the symbiote and its host to influence one another's mental state.
- Unlike the comics, they do not seem to adopt the name Klyntar, seeing as how they created the planet Klyntar in this continuity instead of ailing from it.
- As seen above, Agony is the last symbiote to survive.
