~ Szeras' zero tolerance for failure. |
Illuminor Szeras, also known as the Master of Matter, is a major antagonist in the grimdark science fantasy franchise Warhammer 40,000.
He serves as one of the primary antagonists within the Necron Empire and the main antagonist of Pariah Nexus as well as the first episode of its sequel, The Tithes.
One of the most notorious and feared Necrons of all time, Szeras is responsible for the transformation of his people into eternal undeath machines. While this coupled with his catastrophic brutality and cruelty has earned him a tremendous amount of spite from his kin, he is so powerful that few would dare to stand against him.
Personality[]
Szeras is one of the most diabolical and vile beings in the universe, which in the setting of 40k, is a feat. Obsessed with achieving godhood to that of the ancient C'tan, Szeras championed the damnation of his people to an eternity of unliving metal. In his crusade, his victims number in the billions, and entire planets have been left desolate, lifeless ruins in his wake. The lucky ones merely die, the unlucky ones are stolen away to become test subjects in his abhorrent and unfathomably cruel experiments, their screams a delightful music to his senses. His contempt for all things even extends to his own followers and minions, as he has total intolerance to failure in any shape or form. He is also exceedingly arrogant and believes himself superior to all life forms, even mocking an Astartes as a "bio-engineered anomaly".
Unlike most Necrons who abide by a code of honor, he notably doesn't. He frequently uses Deathmarks, whom may only be used against unhonorable opponents, to kill honorable opponents. He has also disdains fighting personally, again something uncommon for the ''honorable'' Necrons
Trivia[]
- He does not believe in souls, referring it to ''unscientific terminology'', which is ironic for a multitude of reasons.
- Souls are a well established and commonly accepted thing in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
- He himself has made the machine (called the Great Machine) which stripped the Necrons of their souls, including himself.
- By making the machine that would turn the Necrontyr into the Necrons, he can be considered one of the most major, overarching antagonists in Warhammer 40,000
