Kyle: What day is it? What year?
T-1000: May 12, 1984. The day you arrive.
~ The T-1000 before trying to kill Kyle Reese.

The T-1000 is a major antagonist in the 2015 sci-fi action film Terminator Genisys, the first installment of the Genisys Timeline of the Terminator franchise.

It is a mimetic polyalloy Terminator sent by the Skynet from an alternate timeline to kill Sarah Connor, Kyle Reese and Sarah's foster father, Pops. The assassin holds the ability to morph it's form, allowing it to form weapons out of it's body and the ability to morph its body is similar to previous models.

In both it's default and endoskeleton forms, it was portrayed by Lee Byung-hun, who also played Park Chang-yi in The Good, the Bad, the Weird, Storm Shadow in the G.I. Joe film series, and the Front Man in Squid Game. While disguised as Kyle Reese, it was portrayed by Jai Courtney, who also played Charlie in Jack Reacher, Eric Coulter in The Divergent Series, and Captain Boomerang in the DC Extended Universe.

Biography[]

The T-1000 was a cyborg sent to 1973 by the Skynet that turned John Connor into the T-3000 to change the course of the future and win the war by killing Sarah Connor as a child. It was only able to kill Sarah's parents due to the T-800 known as the Guardian stopping it and rescued the young girl raising her. Upon its arrival, the T-1000 disguised itsself as cop when it tried to lure Kyle Reese before Sarah came to rescue him.

After Kyle arrived in a street in 1984, the T-1000 appeared and found Kyle, who was also being pursued by police officers, and chased after him. Kyle went into a clothing shop where he was hiding from the T-1000. When the officers captured Kyle Reese, the T-1000 hid inside a large mirror before attacking Kyle and killing one of the officers before Sarah Connor came to rescue Kyle Reese from the T-1000. Some of the T-1000's slime landed on the van and used it as a tracking device.

The T-1000 later pursues Sarah, Kyle and the Guardian in a police car. The T-1000 stopped for a while when it's police car was blown up.

The T-1000 finds Kyle, Sarah and Pops in their hiding place of an abandoned warehouse where it dropped some of its metallic slime into the T-800 that was disabled by Sarah and the Guardian, reactivating it.

After another confrontation, the T-1000 later appears, disguised as Kyle Reese, to Sarah in a large room. When the real Kyle finds Sarah, it tried to confuse her stating that he was Kyle. Sarah guessed correctly and shot the T-1000's foot which reveals him. She shoots the ceiling from which acid spills and the Guardian T-800 holds the T-1000 in the acid rain with only the T-800's arm in the rain. The acid rain melts and destroys the T-1000.

Quotes[]

T-1000: [disguises as Kyle] Sarah? You gotta help. I'm hurt.
Kyle: Sarah?!
Sarah: Shit.
T-1000: Hey. It's me, Sarah.
Kyle: Sarah, he's lying. [raises his hands when Sarah points her gun at him] Hey, he's a machine. I'm real.
T-1000: It's me, Sarah. Alright, listen: the Terminator's not dead, it attacked me!
Kyle: Sarah, you said they could mimick.
T-1000: It's me, Sarah!
Kyle: He's mimicking, shoot it.
T-1000: I'm real, shoot him!
Sarah: [shoots at the feet of the Kyle on her right, thus revealing the T-1000's disguise and causing it to revert to it's default form] Nice try. Run!

Trivia[]

  • This version of the T-1000 was credited as Cop.
  • This T-1000 only has one line of dialogue in the entire film (not counting impersonations).
  • In an interview with Robert Patrick in 2014, he said he would not return for the role of the T-1000 in Genisys because of his bad hip problem and he wanted his performance as stand-alone, hence why Byung-Hun Lee portrays it's default form in the film.
    • Had Patrick reprised the role, this version would most likely would not be considered separate from the ones shown in the Mainstream and Salvation Timelines.
  • It is possible that the T-1000 killed Officer Michael Nydefer from the first film because it replaces his role of cornering Reese before being asked what date it was in the film.
  • In real life, Byung-Hun Lee was nicknamed "Terminator" in high school.[1]
