The 600 series had rubber skin. We spotted them easy, but these are new. They look human - sweat, bad breath, everything. Very hard to spot. I had to wait till he moved on you before I could zero him.
~ Kyle Reese explaining about the T-800s to Sarah Connor.

The T-800s are the titular secondary antagonists of the Terminator franchise.

They are a Terminator Series created by Skynet to serve as the ulimate infiltrator units to destroy the Resistance.

History[]

Origins[]

The first series of Terminators created for infiltration purposes, the T-600s, had rubber faces and were easy to spot. Their programming was to infiltrate and exterminate human settlements. In order to further this goal, Skynet replaced this series with the T-800s, which had living human tissue over a metal endoskeleton.

Mainstream Timeline[]

The Terminator[]

Due to the T-800s coming to exist, it became harder for the Resistance to distinguish friend from foe. They learned, however, that dogs could easily detect them, which led to the Resistance adding dogs at their bases' entrances to figure out who is a real human and who is an infiltrated T-800. One such example was by the arrival of the Future Terminator.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day[]

In 2029, John Connor launched one final assault against Skynet. Several T-800s were successful at killing humans, but most of them were destroyed in combat. Eventually, all of them stopped functioning when Skynet's core was destroyed. Before that happened, however, Skynet was able to send a T-800 and the T-1000 back in time to kill John's mother Sarah in 1984, and himself while he was just a child in 1995. As such, John sent his father, Kyle Reese, back to stop the T-800, and another T-800 which has the same appearance of the one sent to kill his mother to stop the T-1000.

Rise of the Machines Timeline[]

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines[]

The T-800s don't appear in this timeline, which means that they became obsolete and Skynet stopped producing them and shut down the still-functioning ones once they outlived their purpose so they could be replaced by the T-850s.

Salvation Timeline[]

Terminator Salvation[]

Although not seen, this Terminator series was developed by Skynet with the research coming into fruition with the birth of the T-RIP in 2018.

Terminator Salvation: The Final Battle[]

Sometime after 2018, the T-800s were mass-produced and used for several tasks. In 2029, Skynet resurrected the serial killer Thomas Parnell as a T-H to serve as it's final weapon against the Resistance. Once Parnell linked himself with the T-800s, they acquired his personality traits, and started a bloody massacre. When Thomas put his usurpation plan into motion, Skynet tried to fight back with the T-800s that were still under it's control, but it was no use, leading to Skynet forging an alliance with the Resistance to stop him. All of Parnell's T-800s inside his base of operations were destroyed by John after he was turned into a Terminator, while the ones who weren't there when it happened returned to be under Skynet's control after Parnell's death. They were then seen helping humanity rebuild the world and society following the truce between humans and machines.

Genisys Timeline[]

Terminator Genisys[]

The T-800s were used as Skynet's main field force against the Resistance, as well as guarding the concentration camps. In 2029, they partook in defending the TED until they stopped functioning following Skynet's destruction.

Terminator Genisys: Future War[]

After returning to the main timeline to avoide erasure, T-5000, the Skynet from an alternate timeline, reactivated the T-800s to continue the war against the Resistance, with their design serving as the template for several other series within the 800s, including the T-810, the T-833, the T-860, the T-883, and the T-897.

Dark Fate Timeline[]

Terminator: Dark Fate[]

Due to Skynet never being created, the T-800s never came to be. Before being erased from existence, however, Skynet managed to send several T-800s back to the past to kill John, with one of them succeedding in 1998. In remorse for it's actions, that T-800 took on the name "Carl" and indirectly helped Sarah destroy the other T-800s that came from Skynet's future, regardless if their assigned mission had already been accomplished and that the future they came from no longer existed.

Other Media[]

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon[]

The T-800s appear as the main antagonists of the game's "Terminator" live event.

Known Units[]

The Terminator[]

Terminator (T-800)

The Terminator

The T-800, better known as the Terminator is, as it's suggests, a T-800 of Model 101. It was sent back to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor before she could give birth to John Connor.

In The Terminator, it was portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger (who also played Carl Hauser in Total Recall and Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin) in it's human disguise and by an animatronic in it's endoskeleton form. In Terminator Genisys, it was portrayed by Brett Azar using CGI technology for both it's human disguise and endoskeleton forms.

Future Terminator[]

Future Terminator

The Future Terminator is a T-800 sent to infiltrate and assault a Resistance bunker where Kyle Reese was located.

It was portrayed by the late Franco Columbu.

T-RIP[]

RIP

T-RIP

The Prototype T-800, also known as T-RIP (Resistance Infiltration Prototype), is, as it's nickname suggests, the prototype of the T-800 Series. When John Connor arrived at Skynet Central, the T-RIP was sent to terminate him as part of Skynet's master plan involving Marcus Wright to kill Connor.

It was portrayed by Roland Kickinger for it's human disguise and by Buster Reeves for it's endoskeleton form, and voiced by the late Anton Yelchin (who also played Skynet while taking on Kyle Reese's form in Terminator Salvation, Nathan Harris in Criminal Minds, and Hunter Jim in Trollhunters).

New Terminators[]

New Terminators

The New Terminators are a trio of T-800s that feature highly human behavior mimicry, capable of lying, discussing and debating with humans, or even trying to understand aesthetics and appreciate beauty. They were sent back to 2003 by Thomas Parnell to protect his past self and assure his victory over the Resistance and Skynet.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Bionic Physiology: T-800s are cybernetic organisms, human tissues over metal endoskeletons developed by Skynet as a series of infiltration unit in 2026. As such, they possess numerous offensive capabilities, such as their ability to mimic human voices and behaviour, as well as being able to quickly find and acquire weapons and stuff for the sake of the accomplishment of their assigned missions.
    • Superhuman Durability: The T-800s are extremely tough, thanks to their ultra sophisticated endoskeleton made from a very dense coltan alloy that can withstand multiple shots from firearms such as rifles and pistols. They are also resistant to electricity and can withstand being crushed by a large truck, as well as explosions, as shown when the first T-800 foind itself being exploded and came out unscathed, at the expense of its human skin and clothing. Nor did fire have any consequential effect on it, for when it exploded, it's endoskeleton was intact, with only a pipe bomb placed in it's pelvis by Kyle managing to damage it. Even so, the latter continued to pursue it's frantic quest for Sarah Connor.
    • Superhuman Strength: Thanks to their ultra-strong coltan endoskeleton, the T-800s can exert far greater strength than normal humans. The first T-800 has effortlessly lifted one man off the ground to rip out his heart, and struck another so hard he died. Later, it easily shattered a car's grip bar, even though these are designed to withstand violent car impacts, and knocked out a cop just by banging his head against a car body. He can also hold two rifles and a pistol firmly, even on a motorcycle, without losing accuracy, and rip the lock off an electrical box. Finally, he was able to break down several reinforced doors effortlessly.
    • Unlimited Stamina & Endurance: Being machines, the T-800s can exercise indefinitely, as they don't need to rest at all. They can carry out one mission after another without taking a break, and withstand all kinds of trauma to their body structures without the slightest discomfort or pain. With no need to recharge in any way whatsoever. The T-800s, as well as any other Terminator units, has been programmed to feel nothing, as they have no nerve endings whatsoever, making then more efficient killers.
      • Oxygen Independence: They require no oxygen either, possessing no respiratory or cardiovascular organs, they can "live" indefinitely without needing to breathe, and can remain for essentially infinite periods in environments that are totally devoid of it. Such as when walking through smoke and fire without difficulty, as in the police station or Cyberdyne factory.
    • Superhuman Speed: The T-800s are faster than a normal human, as the Terminator was able to quickly catch up with Kyle Reese and Sarah's car when a car exploded in front of it, even on foot. Later, it was able to escape from it's car before the cops caught it, despite it's weight and size.
    • Voice Mimicry: Provided a T-800 has a sample of the person's voice, it can imitate human voices, as when Sarah makes the mistake of calling her mother. It managed to kill her earlier and is now able to imitate her voice. Allowing it to track down Sarah and Reese.
  • Scanner Vision: Thanks to the speed and computing power of their central processing unit, T-800s can calculate and identify information quickly and in detail. Such as calculating information with their ranged weapons, the height, and distance separating it from their targets. Giving them deadly, unstoppable precision, even while in motion on a motorcycle, the Terminator managed to hit the tire of Reese & Sarah's car and even Reese himself with a shot to the side. Their red scanner vision also enables them to see clearly in the dark.
    • Self-Sustenance: Because they are machines, the T-800s do not require food or drink to live or continue to perform to perfection. Being able to carry on their missions for years without needing to eat or drink or even cleanse or sleep.

Abilities[]

  • Intimidation: Because of their cold, emotionless nature, T-800s are a feared and dreaded presence, even by a sworn soldier like Kyle Reese. When the Terminator uses it's lethal force, the people around it panic.
  • Stealth: Despite their heavy, thick structure, T-800s can easily sneak into public places. Such as the Tech noir, where it managed to enter and explore the inside even after crushing the bouncer's hand.
  • Firearms: T-800s are very skilled in handling weapons and firearms in general, with the Terminator being able to eliminate a police station full of armed officers with no problem. They can shoot enemies from a great distance, despite the fact that it is on the move with obstacles in their path.
  • Combat: As a result of military and war engineering and programming, T-800s are highly effective military weapons, apable of many combat feats despite the overwhelming chaos that surrounds them. They're essentially the perfect soldiers, being inexhaustible, unflappable, knowing perfectly how to handle any weapon at their disposal and drive to perfection any vehicle in their hands, as well as being able to analyze their environment in detail.
  • Fixing: When it's arm and eye were damaged during the fight, the Terminator was able to repair them later in it's apartment, in front of the mirror. It cut out it's flesh to repair it, so that it would no longer be slow and blocked. It also removed any dirt that might have built up and slowed down it's mission.
  • Resourcefulness: Thanks to their programming, T-800s are able to quickly and efficiently acquire things and equipment for their missions, such as weapons, a car, clothes, and intel in a matter of days.

Weaknesses[]

  • .50 BMG Rounds: The T-800 from the Genisys Timeline is shut down by a Barrett M82 shot to its chest, where its power source is located, before it can destroy Guardian. It is later re-activated by the T-1000 with a drop of mimetic polyalloy, but then destroyed with a shot to its neck during a fight against Kyle Reese, decapitating it.
  • Plasma Weaponry: Plasma weaponry could degrade a T-800's frame and destroy the unit, as evidenced during a fight with the T-X. As such, Skynet eventually developed the more resilient T-850, which could withstand a direct hit of the T-X's plasma cannon.
  • Explosives: Kyle Reese used a home-made pipe bomb to blow the original T-800 in half, heavily damaging it, but not destroying it outright. In the Salvation and Genisys Timelines, a grenade launcher was used to destroy the T-RIP and T-800's human coverings, but this is insufficient to shut them both down.
  • Razor-Sharp Metallic Rebar: The T-800 sent to protect John Connor is shut down by the more evolved T-1000, which impales it through the back with a stake. In the Genisys Timeline, the T-3000, which could develop razor sharp edges with his hands, ripped off The Guardian's arm during their last fight.
  • Intense Hydraulic-Pressure: In the Mainstream Timeline, Sarah Connor used a hydraulic press to crush the original T-800 and destroy it.
  • Extreme Heat: Extreme of temperatures could melt down a T-800, as evidenced when the T-800 sent to protect John Connor is destroyed when lowered into a pit of molten steel. In the Salvation Timeline, John uses molten steel and liquid nitrogen to freeze the T-RIP, which incapacitates its frame, thereby allowing Marcus Wright to decapitate it with a metallic rebar when it broke free.
  • Corrosive Reagents: Extremely concentrated hydrochloric acid, among other substances, could melt a T-800's frame and even destroy the unit outright if prolonged exposure could be achieved.
  • Electronic Overcurrent: Kyle Reese uses a live wire to temporarily electrocute the T-800 during their duel, but the machine was only briefly affected, although it is possible that it could be shocked and destroyed if a sufficiently powerful current was passed through its endoskeleton.
  • Electromagnetic Pulses: In the Dark Fate Timeline, it is shown that an EMP device can fry the circuits of a T-800.
  • General Lack of Maintenance: As with a human skeleton, whose joints weaken as time passes, The Guardian was affected by degradation, which proved to be a significant factor for it's inferiority against the converted John Connor in the Genisys Timeline.

Trivia[]

  • T-800 in Terminator similar Psycho in Max Steel.
  • In Terminator Genisys, the T-800s' physical design has been slightly modified as various parts have been redesigned, such as the chest plate, legs and arms (with the chest plate being similar to that of the T-500s'); the eye sockets are wider and narrower, though this may be a trick of the light given that previous T-800 always had shadows darkening the eye sockets, therefore masking any details; the jawline is more angular; there seems to more wiring in the waist area as well as the hips being more pointed and angular as well; and the feet no longer have a rounded heel but a wide flat one. This character model is later reused in Terminator: Dark Fate.
  • A T-800 made a spoof/crossover appearance in the cartoon Spaceballs, The Animated Saga episode "The Scroobinator".
  • In 2011, the battle damaged T-800 prop from the Future War scenes of T2 was sold on the SyFy program Hollywood Treasure for $180,000 USD.
  • In the 2007 film Universal Soldiers, the cyborg in the final confrontation looks like a gigantic T-800 endoskeleton.
  • Out of all the Skynet-produced Terminators, the T-800s has had the most appearances, appearing in every movie except for T3.
