Tabaqui is Shere Khan's sidekick and one of the secondary antagonists (alongside Grizzle) of the 1989 anime series Jungle Book: Shonen Mowgli. Unlike the other versions of Jungle Book, he is a bungling striped hyena (yet he is still referred to as a jackal as he was in the original story) who never seems to get anything right.
He was voiced by Issei Futamata in the Japanese version, and Terrence Scammell in the English dubbed version.
He's also notorious for being idle, greedy, incompetent, conniving, dimwitted, dastardly and chatty. Later, he and another hyena meet their defeat when Mowgli and Shere Khan go against each other once more and both hyenas are gored by water buffaloes. It is unknown if they died from being gored or merely fainted and later fled the scene.
- Tabaqui's English voice actor, Terrence Scammell also does the voice of Kaa.
