„
~ Tails Nine after the rest of Sonic's friends show up to battle him.
Miles Prower, also known as Tails Nine, or just Nine, is the deuteragonist of the 2022 Netflix series, Sonic Prime.
He is an alternate version of Miles "Tails" Prower, created when Sonic broke the Paradox Prism while fighting against Dr. Eggman and lives in an alternate reality where the hedgehog never existed, resulting in secluding himself from society by only giving himself seven robotic tails and a purpose of inventing machinery to protect himself from many years of torment.
While initially depicted as an anti-heroic ally, Nine feels betrayed when he realizes that Sonic doesn’t want the same thing. This leads him to decide he can't trust Sonic and steal the Shards of the Paradox Prism to create a "perfect world" in The Grim, which accelerates the Shatterverse's destabilization.
When he discovers that he needs Sonic's energy to complete the Paradox Prism, he creates an army of robotic doppelgangers in the image of Sonic and his friends to get the Blue Blur to complete his plan. In the end, he comes to the conclusion that he went too far. And when Sonic offers his energy to complete the Paradox Prism, Tails Nine uses it to restore the Shatterverse. He is also the archenemy of the Chaos Council.
Just like the original Tails, he was voiced by Ryō Hirohashi in Japanese and Ashleigh Ball (who also voiced Pinky in Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures) in English.
Being a Shatterverse counterpart to Tails, Nine naturally looks similar to his Prime counterpart, albeit with notable differences.
Just like his main universe counterpart, he is a young anthropomorphic fox with two tails instead of one. He also possesses golden amber fur with white fur around his muzzle, his torso, and at the tips of his tails and white bits of puffed-out fur along his muzzle. He also has triangular ears, sky-blue eyes, a small black nose, and three locks of hair on his head that point upwards.

Why do you think I live down here? To avoid everyone... you included.

~ Tails Nine to Sonic about civilization
In stark contrast to his Prime counterpart, who is usually coy, selfless, and gentle, Nine shows himself to be jaded, selfish and aggressive, all thanks to him being an outcast, and being left unnoticed and unloved for years in a world run by the Chaos Council. Due to this, he has become self-isolating, avoiding any and all interaction with others, and will generally resort to attacking others when he feels threatened.
Despite all of this, when Sonic shows willingness to befriend him, and sacrificed himself to save and protect him, Nine gradually opens up to him, seeing him as his only friend. He even comes back to assist Sonic and the Resistance on fighting the Chaos Council when they were in need. Nine still also has Tails' bravery, as he does not hesitate to take part in battle, even talking back to members of the Chaos Council when they try to use him.
Upon learning about the shards, Nine begins to help Sonic collect them so he can use them to create an ideal world. His argument with Sonic over his fate when Sonic's world is restored shows Nine's true self, a bitter loner who only looks out for himself.
Biography[]
Past[]
“
That's not how it happened, and you weren't there. I was a kid, minding my business, but not minding my surroundings. Some creeps came along and picked on me for having one extra tail. I took a beating. It was the same for years, until I used my cunning fox brain to get me a real way to fight back. I take care of myself and need no one! Period!
„
~ Tails Nine's backstory, which is also what might've happened if Sonic never met Tails in the real timeline
Nine's backstory isn't too different from that of Tails. They were gifted young foxes bullied and ostracized regularly, due to their double tails. However, because Sonic didn't exist in Nine's universe, he had no one to accept him as a friend, continuing to fall into loneliness, having endured the abuse for years, and only made worse when the Chaos Council took over Green Hill, turning it into a dystopian and gloomy wasteland.
Nine creating his robotic tails.
Tired of all the bullying and needing to survive the dystopian New Yoke City, Nine decided to use his knowledge of technology to create seven robotic appendages onto his own tails as a means of defence. Since then, he has become as much of a brute as the rest of the city's civilians, living alone in the tunnels beneath the city where no one can approach him. He has actively avoided civilization since then.
Sonic Prime[]
Sonic first finds Nine when he ends up in his dimension after breaking the crystal, where he notices Nine's bunker on the highway. He then activates the same number passcode (referencing Tail's debut) to where he finds Nine inventing gear but doesn't notice Sonic at first, and then He starts to attack him when being referred by his nickname due to his traumatic years of torment, however after trying to attack Sonic, the latter quickly saved him from an ongoing train and opened his own existence in his lost homeworld, they eventually worked together to retrieve the Paradox prisms.
When the Eggman Council captured him, Nine inadvertently was responsible of the creation of Chaos Sonic, by unintentionally giving Mr. Dr. Eggman the idea of creating the robot by being able to "Think like Sonic", Nine attempts to communicate with Sonic until he was seized by Dr. Don't, before escaping the complex to assemble the Prism, however things took a turn which Nine, realizing the collateral relentless Sonic had onto creating his realm, and angrily realizing Sonic didn’t want his "perfect world", he took the crystals back with him to the Grim, leaving Sonic and Shadow for dead in Ghost Hill.
Back in the Grim, he reassembles the Paradox Prism and turns his hideout into a crystal fortress, but upon noticing that the Grim is decaying and that he can't use the Paradox Prism to its full extent, he realizes that he needs Sonic's energy to truly complete the Paradox Prism.
After a heated battle with his former allies, Nine came to his senses once he realized his actions were about to bring all reality to an end. Sonic agreed to give up his energy to complete the prism, which allowed Nine to restore the shatter spaces and Green Hill along with them. With Sonic and the others going back to their respective worlds and the Chaos Council trapped in the space between the different realities, Nine would live peacefully on his own in The Grim.
Powers and abilities[]
Flight: Nine’s two enhanced fox tails allow him to fly in the air by wrapping his two tails together and spinning them like a helicopter, similar to most of his counterparts.
Spin Dash: With guidance from Sonic, Nine learned how to curl up into a ball and perform a powerful spin dash attack similar to Sonic. While doing this, Nine gains enhanced speed.
Enhanced Strength: Nine possesses impressive levels of strength, allowing him to fight on par with Sonic and others without much difficulty.
Superhuman Durability: Nine is far more durable than a normal fox. He has taken beatings from Sonic, New Yoke Knuckles and other things, and has walked away practically unscathed.
Seven Robotic Tails: Nine developed seven mechanical tails in order to protect himself from enemies. These tails allow him to crawl on walls, move without walking or flying and allow him to fight his enemies at a distance. Nine’s robotic tails could also shoot energy bolts out of their tips and levitate objects.
Paradox Prism (Formerly)[]
Once he gained access to the completed Paradox Prism, Nine gained near-unlimited powers; allowing him to shape and destroy worlds and create an endless army of robots. However, as the Prism was unstable without Sonic's own energy, Nine's physical condition and mental state gets worse every time he taps its power and the current decay of the Shatterverse accelerates further.

Trivia[]
Nine's design is likely based on the Japanese yokai, the kitsune, or fox spirits. These are fox-like spirits that possess multiple tails, like Nine does.
Unlike his Prime counterpart, this version of Tails views the nickname as an insult, as a result of never learning to embrace the two tails of flight he already had, thanks to Sonic.
Tails Nine seems to be the dark parallel to the numerous versions of the heroic Tails. Each of them had endured relentless bullying. But while the other versions of Tails have met Sonic who helped them through their insecurities and end up becoming heroes over time, Nine himself never had Sonic or anyone like him for a friend and has eventually descended into villainy. Nine serves an example of what Tails himself would've become if he hadn't met Sonic in his time of need.
Tails Nine is Tails' only alternate counterpart who is seen as a villain and a hero.
He is also Tails' alternate counterpart who lives in two different places. In Season 1, he used to live in New Yoke City. In Seasons 2 and 3, he lived at The Grim.
"Cracking Down" is the only episode where Nine is referred to as Tails Nine.
After the Paradox Prism was rebuilt and it transported itself back to the newly reformed Green Hill, it's unknown if Nine and all of the other inhabitants of the other Shatterspaces are still alive, or if they were all merged back into their Green Hill counterparts.
