Takeo Shimizu is a supporting antagonist in the Shiki franchise.
He is an aggressive, emotionally unstable man, and the father of Megumi Shimizu and husband of Hiroko Shimizu. Despite mistreating his wife and daughter, when he learns that the Shiki are responsible for his daughter's death, he is the first villager to kill one publicly, setting the crusade against them in motion.
He is voiced by Hiroaki Ishikawa in Japanese and the late Cole Brown in English who also voiced Marshall D. Teach from One Piece.
History[]
After Takeo's daughter Megumi goes missing, he leads a search party to locate her. After she is found, he watches Dr. Ozaki take care of her as her condition worsens. Eventually Megumi passes away, which leads Takeo to have an emotional breakdown. He refused to let Ozaki perform an autopsy on her, despite the fact that it might help save more lives.
When his daughter Megumi becomes a Shiki, she refused to turn him or her mother, as she considered them jerks, sparing them from much of the horrors the rest of Sotoba faced.
He appeared later on during the Kagura Festival. After Ozaki lured Chizuru there, he asked Takeo to check her pulse. He felt her cold flesh and lack of pulse and was surprised by it. Toshio then revealed to him that she is the one who killed Megumi. Takeo recognized the perfume on her from Megumi's bedroom shortly befored her death, and became enraged. After some help from Tomio Ookawa, who pinned her down, Takeo violently staked Chizuru, becoming the very first human in Sotoba to stake a Shiki.
After getting his revenge, Takeo eagerly joined Toshio's crusade to eradicate the shiki from the village. Later on he alongside Tomio Ookawa went after Seishin Muroi for helping the Shiki, and followed him to the village's shrine. Once there, they interrogated Seishin's mother and the other workers there about his whereabouts, and after they denied knowing where Seishin was (they were genuinely unaware that he was helping the shiki) Takeo threw a tantrum and assaulted one of the staff members who then defended himself, setting off a chain reaction where the mob of hunters he was with slaughtered the temple workers.
After the temple massacre, Takeo and Tomio located Seishin and chased after him. Seishin mortally wounded by one of the members of their mob, and after bleeding out in the forest, Sunako Kirishiki was left to fend for herself. As the mob chased her down, the entire village began to burn. Tomio ordered Takeo to find the doctor and try to extinguish the fire. It's unknown what happen to him after that, but he presumably escaped the village with the other hunters.
Trivia[]
- Takeo has anger issues. It's implied that he might have gotten them from his abusive father, who was characterized as "hot blooded".
- Megumi sparing Takeo from becoming a Shiki out of disdain towards her parents is what leads to the demise of the Shiki, as her father recognizing Chizuru's perfume is what exposes her nature as a killer to the rest of the village.
- Takeo never becomes aware that Megumi became a Shiki, so his reaction to this revelation is unknown.
- However, considering his shocked reaction to Tomio Ookawa wanting to kill his own son, it's likely that he wouldn't have wanted to kill a reanimated Megumi.
