Biography[]
Tal Merrik was a Senator from Duchess Satine Kryze's home planet of Kalevala, serving in the Galactic Senate. When Satine's lover, the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, visited her on Mandalore, Merrik accompanied the Duchess as well.
Merrik later was present on the starship Coronet with the Duchess as well as three other senators of the Council of Neutral Systems to Coruscant. Kenobi, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and several clone troopers were also aboard as protection against a Death Watch threat. While the politicians were at dinner, assassin probe droids were found and they attacked the ship. Anakin learned that the box containing the droids was ordered by one of the senators. After dinner service was returned, Obi-Wan arrived at the table presenting a probe droid in a container to each of the four senators. While it attempted to attack the other three, it remained calm when it was near Tal Merrik, who then revealed himself as the traitor. He took Satine hostage and went to the helm of the ship, where he killed the pilots and contacted Pre Vizsla, leader of the Death Watch, that sought to overthrow Satine. Vizsla informed him that reinforcements were on the way, just as three Droch-class boarding ships carrying B2-series super battle droids arrived on the Coronet. Merrik, who had secretly wired the starship's engines to explode at the press of a button, threatened Kenobi. As he tried to escape, Satine broke free, grabbed his blaster and pointed it at him. Merrik taunted Kenobi and Satine, amused that it seemed that neither of them would kill him. Just then, Anakin snuck up behind an unsuspecting Merrik and impaled him.
