Is he really a villain?[]
I don't know. Is it fair to call him a villain? I mean there was a lot of confusing things about this movie, things that I don't think were fully explained.
I guess... the way I see it, there are two ways to look at Frank's alignment:
-Bad Guy: He came out from the Tangent Universe into the primary universe to use Donnie and create Chaos, also unraveling the fabric which would cause the universes to collapse. When he traveled, he also caused the airplane engine to fall through, so he had to save Donnie's life. If Donnie was crushed, then balance would have been restored to the universes, and his plan would have been foiled.
-Good Guy: He had nothing to do with the plane engine crashing. Everything he's done has been to motivate Donnie to go back and sacrifice himself to save the universe; acting as a sort of guide for him.
