Game Changer?[]

Why not? Giygas game changer. Warrior inkling Mario, 15:43, 17/03/20

Because Gigyas made the series darker in the tone not Porky. Porky becomes darker but after the series became darker. Game Changers are not simply a dark villain but one who has an effect on the tone that changes from very lighthearted to dark and serious. That is not Porky by Gigyas. When one happens it's extremely rare and far harder for another character to count often with a major cool down period to become lighthearted and then worse than ever before. If so, Mother are already dark series and Giygas isn't game changer. Warrior inkling Mario, 20:59 17/03/20.

No, it starts off somewhat lighthearted with Gigyas being the catalyst for the darker turn with Porky starting off as nothing more then a minor nuisance. Porky got worse but by the time of that the series already got darker. Jester of chaos (talk) 00:59, March 18, 2020 (UTC)

He's appeared after Giygas? If so, ok. Warrior Inkling Mario, 8:22 18/03/20

He appeared before but not as a villain until after Gigyas starts his plot and even then was more of just an obnoxious brat who then joined Gigyas and later games just made Porky more evil later. Jester of chaos (talk) 05:26, March 18, 2020 (UTC)

Game Changer: Revisited[]

I think Porky Minch does fit the criteria for a game changer, contrary to what has been said on the topic. He introduces many themes to the story that were barely present if at all when Giygas remained the main antagonist: major character deaths, and permanent damage to the people he brainwashed. In EarthBound, it's pretty blatant that once you defeat the enemies you fight they "become tame." All characters Giygas brainwashes are able to go back to normal in one way or another, and it remains this way until the end of EarthBound and Porky's rise to power. Giygas himself is a creepy villain when confronted directly, but he doesn't propose any tonal spike in the series necessarily aside from just looking scary and his horrific fate. Not to mention Porky being significantly more evil than Giygas, he mutates the animals of Nowhere Islands which is irreversible, and is the direct cause of what is considered one of the darkest moments in the game (or Nintendo in general), the battle against the Masked Man. Overall, the series ironically shifts into a much darker tone when Giygas is out of the way and Porky becomes in charge. Giygas, unlike him, never really resulted in a supporting character dying aside from some speculated deaths (like Everdred). And he surely didn't cause Ness to fight someone he was close with in an unreasonable battle that'd result in one or the other dying. tl;dr: Giygas never really changed the tone of the Mother Series, and it was Porky's presence as a main antagonist that influenced Mother 3 being darker than the previous installments. Is he really pure evil?[]

I recall itoi saying multiple times he is supposed to be a tragic villain and his childhood caused him to turn evil as he suffered from child abuse and clung onto ness for life as he was his only actual friend (aside from maybe picky? cant tell with him) and this is also proven in mother 3 when its revealed porky held on to videos of ness and his friends, he even acts mentally insane in some dialogue "Are you laughing at me?" "Until everyone who wont like me is gone", etc. He also had blue skin in the giygas fight meaning he was under giygases control the entire time and even then his skin is still slightly blue in mother 3 implying he is still carrying part of giygayses control.
