my knowledge on Aboriginal culture is lacking but does the Yara-ma-yha-who really classify as a "vampire"? from what I know of the mythology it is more of a bogeyman than a bloodsucker, plus it doesn't seem to be an undead being.. Pietus 17:21, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

I think the person who added the vampire category based it on: "Yara-ma-yha-who would latch on to the victim and rapidly drain blood in a leech-like manner through its sucker-tipped digits". But I do agree with you he's not a vampire, as he eats entire humans and is indeed not an undead creature. Amnestyyy 17:25, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

I see, well I'd say to the person involved that this monster is said to drain people of blood not so much to drink said blood but to weaken them - being a predatory creature, I think it could be comparible to the vampire bat (real animal, not the legendary ones) - anyway, now I'm just being a nerd Pietus 17:30, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

not all vampires are undead, a vampire in the broadest sense is any creature that drinks blood or absorbs some sort of energy-source from another - Yara-ma-yha-who is thus, in a very loose term, a vampiric creature.. just not in the way most Western cultures depict them Spirit Of Destruction 12:19, November 22, 2010 (UTC)

The Yara-ma-yha-who's are a form of vampires. Oh and they're not supposed to have teeth either, the one in the picture does though. The Power that is Ssk! 23:06, May 26, 2012 (UTC)

in fairness a Yara-ma-yha-who can be depicted any way one wishes since it is a fictional being.. granted we should try and find a geniune image (as in one from Australian folklore).. however since Aboriginal culture didn't (to my knowledge) record their myths in books that may be hard unless we look at cave paintings Suxx 23:13, May 26, 2012 (UTC)
