The Tall Grass Monsters are the main antagonists of the Love, Death & Robots episode "The Tall Grass".

Appearance[]

The monsters are humanoid in appearance, with pure white skin, spiky vertebrae protruding down their spines, and sharp claws on their fingers and toes. Their faces lack any features, until they reveal their mouths, filled with dozens of razor-sharp teeth.

Personality[]

The monsters are shown to be vicious man-eaters who have an entire ditch covered in human bones. They also appear to be hostile towards each other, as shown when two of the monsters start attacking each other when one pushes the other way to eat Laird first.

Biography[]

Somewhere in the West Coast, a steam engine breaks down in a large field of tall grass at night. A passenger named Laird steps out to see what was happening. The conductor shows up and tells him that the boiler was out and it will take a few minutes for it to get going again. While taking a smoke break, Laird spots strange lights in the grass and goes in it to investigate. Before he knows it, Laird gets lost in the field.

While frolicking through the field of grass looking for the train, Laird comes across one of the glowing sources, revealed to a white humanoid creature with its skin glowing off the Moon's reflection. It takes notice of Laird and gives chase, with other monsters taking notice and join the pursuit. Despite his efforts to stay hidden, the monsters easily track Laird and force him to run for his life.

While trying to outrun the creatures, Laird falls into a ditch covered with human bones. More monsters burst from the ground and attempt to catch him. One manages to grab his leg when he tries to climb out of the ditch, but Laird strikes it with a leg bone. He manages to climb out, where he eventually manages to spot lighting from the train.

Laird reaches the train just as it's about to take off, only for the monsters to capture him and pin him to the ground. Before they can eat him, the conductor arrives and scares the monsters away with a torch, enabling Laird to safely make it back on the train. The conductor tells Laird that the train breaks down in the field every so often. He theorizes that the field is actually a gateway to another world, and the monsters are actually lost humans who were cursed when they got lost in the grass. As the train leaves the field, Laird watches as more lights start shining from within the tall grass.
