Tanaka (Detective Conan)

Tanaka (Detective Conan) is the main antagonist of the Detective Conan/Case Closed episode The White Sandy Beach Murder Case (Prescription for Murder in the dub). Tanaka is a skilled doctor of the small beach town of Shirahama Beach and is well known. However, a deep dark secret that he committed expose him as a villain.

He is voiced by Akimasa Omori, who voiced Leigharch from the anime Black Lagoon.

Biography

Tanaka first appeared at a bar where Kogoro is drunk while talking to a young woman, who left without him noticing. When Conan mentioned his name, Tanaka looked annoyed upon learning the great Detective Kogoro Mouri is in town. When a friend of Tanaka offered to treat Kogoro in exchange for hearing some of his stories, Tanaka acted rude when he said that this was between him and his friend, even telling Kogoro to get lost, which he, Conan and Ran did, but not before a woman named Tomoko came and asked if he saw a woman named Mitsuko, who he claimed he hasn't seen and didn't care, even asking her to leave him alone.

He later appeared again when the corpse of Mitsuko Sekine was found, and as he examined the body and declared her death by drowning, even saying she committed suicide. However, Tomoko, who was friends of Mitsuko believed he killed her, due to the fact that he and Mitsuko used to date, to the point where he and her were fiancés towards each other, only to break it up when it was discovered that he was engaged to marry his boss' daughter, the head of the hospital, causing Kogoro to believe in her. However, when Kogoro gave his (failed) deductions after Tanaka gave his report, Tanaka revealed that he has an alibi; That he was at the bar on the night Mitsuko died and said he had a couple of witnesses to back him up with Kogoro being one of them and claims that this kind of accusation could ruin his reputation, even after reexamining the body.

Later after the reexamining Mitsuko's body, Tanaka conformed that it was suicide and told Kogoro that he will take responsibility for his false accusation. After Conan knocked out Kogoro, and using his bowtie, he revealed that Tanaka is the killer and expose how he killed Mitsuko.

According to Conan/Kogoro, Tanaka asked Mistuko to meet him in a different location at the beach, where he used drug like chloroform to knock her out, then he tied her feet with a heavy rock, and using a swim ring that be bought a while back and place her in the innertube and poked a hole in it while leaving her adrift on the ocean. where after the ring was empty, Mitsuko falls into the bottom of the sea while the rock is still attracted to her feet. However, Tanaka denied this claim, despite Conan finding three pieces of evidence proving he's the killer.

1. Using Ran's feet, Conan had her tie a knot similar to the one that Mitsuko used for Her's, to revealed that Ran's feet were shown to have the knot pointing up while in the photo, Mistuko's are pointing down, meaning she didn't tie the knot herself but rather Tanaka did it.
2. The innertube he bought was from a store in the town, as the woman who sold him the ring recognizes the ring.
3. While Tanaka still refuse to admit he killed her, Conan revealed one last piece of evidence; That despite being washed in the ocean and might have ended up in a trash pile, Tanaka's fingerprints were never removed, thus exposing him as the killer.

As both the Police Chief and Ran are shocked to learn what Tanaka did, he fell to his knees in utter defeat and was left speechless with his perfect plan ruined.

It is assumed that after he was discovered and arrested, his engagement to his boss' daughter has been revoked.

Trivia

• While the original dub, It was stated that Tanaka killed Mistuko because despite them being a couple, she was in the way of him getting further into his career while arranged to marry his boss's daughter While in the FUNImation dub, they changed it to have him instead killing her because she was planning to break up with him and end their engagement due to him having a terrible angry issue as he was only angry at her and no one else.
