The Tao Tei Queen is the main antagonist of the 2017 live-action monster film The Great Wall. She is the tyrannical queen and leader of the Tao Tei who commands her army and plans to breed by reproducing more Tao Tei so that they can wipe out humanity.
Her vocal sound effects were provided by Jonathan Borland, who also did the vocal sound effects of the Tao Tei in the same film.

Appearance
The Queen resembles a Protoceratops with an elongated, squat body, overlapping plates on her back, a long whip-like tail and her eyes are located on her face. Her head is rounded with a bulging forehead, and her lips curve upward which give her a permanent snarling expression. Her most distinguishing physical feature is a two-pronged sail on her head which vibrates to signal her troops.
Personality
The Queen is the only member of the Tao Tei with any kind of advanced thinking capability. She is the only one that is confirmed to be capable of strategic analysis and planning in response to the changing circumstances on the battlefield shown when she presumably instructed her soldiers to move slowly and silently through thick clouds of fog. She is also shown to be ruthless in the execution of these strategies, and is completely willing to throw away the lives of her soldiers to achieve her goals, though she will order a tactical withdrawal if she is losing too many for little to no gain. She is the most vital aspect as she both serves as the reproductive element of the colony as well as the mental initiator of the hive mind. Killing her would cause the whole colony to collapse, with the entire army ceasing all activity and freezing in their tracks.
Trivia
- The crooning sound the Queen makes to command her soldiers is similar to how the Bewilderbeast from the How to Train Your Dragon series controls smaller dragons.
- The Tao Tei Queen has distinctly slanted eyes, similar to stereotypical depictions of Asians.
- The Tao Tei Queen was originally depicted as slightly more slim and would have engaged the Order's warriors in close combat.
- Given the Queen is only somewhat larger than the soldiers and that none of the young Tao Tei are ever seen, it is unclear how she manages to birth such a huge army in a short span of time.
