The Tapia Cartel are the main antagonists of the 2003 film Bad Boys II, the second installment in the Bad Boys franchise.

They are a Cuban drug trafficking organization that smuggles large quantities of ecstasy into Miami. The Cartel is run by Hector Juan Carlos Tapia also known as Johnny Tapia. The cartel power has even reached officials in the Cuban military.

Biography[]

The film introduces Johnny Tapia as a powerful and ruthless Cuban drug lord operating out of Miami. He controls a massive ecstasy smuggling operation, which becomes the target of the Miami Police Department’s Tactical Narcotics Team (TNT).

Tapia uses various fronts to smuggle ecstasy into Miami, including hidden compartments in coffins being shipped from Cuba. This is one of the early discoveries made by detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett as they begin to investigate the influx of drugs in the city.

Tapia is shown to be in conflict with Russian gangsters who are also involved in the drug trade. He ruthlessly eliminates his competition to maintain control over the drug market, showcasing his violent nature.

Syd Burnett, who is Marcus's sister and an undercover DEA agent, becomes embroiled in Tapia’s operations while investigating him. Tapia discovers her true identity and kidnaps her to use as leverage against the police and her brother Marcus.

The film's climax centers around an intense shootout at Johnny Tapia’s mansion in Cuba. Mike and Marcus, along with a team of elite commandos, infiltrate the heavily fortified estate to rescue Syd and take down Tapia’s operation.

During the final confrontation, Tapia attempts to flee with Syd but is ultimately killed in a dramatic chase. His death marks the collapse of the Tapia Cartel, ending the reign of one of Miami's most dangerous drug lords.
