Tar-Goroth is a Balrog in the Lord of the Rings videogame Middle-Earth: Shadow of War.
He is accidentally awakened when Talion and Celebrimbor forge a new Ring of Power. Upon awakening, Tar-Goroth wastes no time torching the forest of a nature spirit named Carnan. For this reason, Talion agrees to stop the Balrog, both to make amends and to get the normally neutral nature spirit on his side.
It is later revealed that an Orc Sorcerer named Zog the Eternal is in fact actively trying to harness his power for his own ends and use him to take control of Mordor from Sauron.
Trivia
- He was first shown in the game's cinematic announcement trailer, but was not given an official name until the announcement of the limited Mythrill edition, which includes a statue of him fighting Talion riding a drake made out of nature by Carnan.
