Tat is a minor antagonist in Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil, the second game in the Klonoa series by Namco. Tat is a catlike creature and the personal assistant to the sky pirate Leorina. She possesses the ability to split into two copies of herself, one colored white with a friendly personality, and the other colored dark purple with a rude personality.
In Lunatea's Veil, Tat was voiced by Satomi Koorogi. In Klonoa Beach Volleyball, she was voiced by an unknown actress, as the game did not credit its English voice actors.
Biography[]
No details are known of Tat's species or backstory. However, it is implied that Leorina met and teamed up with Tat sometime after Leorina quit her priestess training in La-lakoosha to become a sky pirate.
In Lunatea's Veil, Tat is first seen with Leorina as they observe Klonoa at the Sea of Tears soon after Klonoa enters the land of Lunatea. Later, Leorina and Tat ambush Klonoa at the Claire Moa Temple. Leorina sends Folgaran the Armor Beast to attack Klonoa when Klonoa refuses to give her his ring. After Klonoa defeats the beast, Tat remarks that she finds Klonoa impressive before she and Leorina depart.
In Joilant, Tat steals the Element of Tranquility from Lolo, splits into two copies of herself, and has one of her copies fly off with the Element, forcing the heroes to track down and capture each copy of Tat to get the element back.
Later, Leorina sent Tat to activate the generators in Volk to power up Leorina's Fake Ring. During this time, she had a short battle with Klonoa in the Underground Factory.
Tat later helped Leorina get all of the Elements. However, against Leorina's expectations, the Elements corrupted her and transformed her into the monster known as Cursed Leorina. After Klonoa defeated Cursed Leorina and returned Leorina back to her original form, Tat comforted the injured Leorina. Leorina realized that the power she sought had corrupted her, and she vowed to help the heroes save Lunatea, with Tat eagerly following Leorina's redemption. Tat and Leorina helped fly the heroes to the Kingdom of Sorrow, where they would go on to fight the King of Sorrow.
In the end, Tat helped rebuild the ruins of the Kingdom of Sorrow, making it clear that she had changed her ways.
Appearance[]
Tat is a catlike creature whose right half is white, with an open yellow eye, while her left half is black or dark purple, with a closed eye. She has a skirtlike torso with two blue buttons. Her arms float separately from her torso, and she has no legs, only a long tail which protrudes from the inside bottom of her skirt-shaped torso and has a green ring around it.
Personality[]
In her default state, Tat is playful and mischievous. She is determined to help Leorina with her plans, but even so, Tat never does anything too evil or horrific.
Tat can split into two copies of herself, one white and the other dark purple. The white Tat goes even further with Tat's mischievousness, to the point where she acts a bit flirty towards Klonoa. The dark purple Tat is blunter and ruder.
Trivia[]
- Tat shares some interesting similarities and differences with Joka, the secondary antagonist of Klonoa's first game:
- Similarities:
- Both are the cheerful, comical sidekicks to a tall, dark, and serious antagonist (Joka serves Ghadius, while Tat serves Leorina.)
- Both have completely unknown origins.
- Both do the dirty work for their masters and meet Klonoa more frequently than their masters do.
- Both have some design elements that make them vaguely resemble both a clown and a cat, although Tat has more catlike elements while Joka has more clownlike elements.
- Both have a moment where they stand on a high ledge and wait to see if Klonoa can make it up to the top.
- The DLC for Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series allows Klonoa to wear masks of Joka and Tat in their respective games.
- Differences:
- Tat has a crush on Klonoa, while Joka despises Klonoa.
- Tat finds redemption, while Joka remains evil and eventually dies (although he does return in some spinoff games.)
- Similarities:
- Tat's voice (at least in Lunatea's Veil) sounds like a series of "meow" or "nya" sounds, which is fitting for a cat.
