~ Tatsuhiko Saku. |
Tatsuhiko Saku is a minor antagonist in the light novel/anime series A Certain Magical Index, serving as one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Shizuri Mugino) of the Battle Royale Arc.
He is the leader of BLOCK, an organization in Academy City's dark side, who possesses a vendetta towards the city's ruler Aleister Crowley and seeks to kill him at all costs.
He is voiced by Ken Mizukoshi in Japanese and Chris Rager in English, the latter also voices Arlong in One Piece.
Appearance[]
Tatsuhiko is a large and imposing man with a crew cut hairstyle. He is seen wearing a sort of grey shirt and pants with black boots.
Personality[]
Tatsuhiko is an intransigent and aggressive man who is utterly devoted to his goals and is unrelenting in pursuit of his objective. He possesses an immense hatred of Aleister Crowley, the board chairman of Academy City, and will stop at nothing to take him down. Tatsuhiko has no qualms with callously discarding any subordinates who doesn't provide anything useful to BLOCK and doesn't tolerate failure as an option. He is also unforgiving towards traitors and won't hesitate to have them disposed of. Tatsuhiko arrogantly believes that his goal will liberate Academy City from Aleister's control and is adamant in that belief.
Deep down, however, he is a very unhinged and vindictive individual who is deeply obsessed with killing Aleister and taking control of Academy City, not caring who get hurt in the process. His hatred of Aleister is borderline pathological, so much so that he is willing to put people in danger even if doing so is unnecessary. This is best seen when he showed zero problems with potentially killing some of BLOCK's planned esper hostages in using explosives to break them out, stating that since there are 38, one or two dead isn't that big a loss.
Biography[]
He is the leader of BLOCK, an unofficial extrajudicial organization from the dark side of Academy City that main goal is to keep an eye on the level of cooperation from friendly institutions outside of Academy City. However, Tatsuhiko holds deep animosity towards Aleister Crowley and his rule. After the events of the 0930 incident, BLOCK discover that they could challenge the will of Crowley and take control of Academy City. Tatsuhiko successfully wrestles control of the organization including its subordinate group from the BLOCK liaison.
On October 9th, which is Academy City's Independence day, Tatsuhiko and BLOCK decide to make their move and gathers over 5,000 mercenaries from outside of Academy City to boost their manpower. As Tatsuhiko makes preparations to storm the Windowless Building, Etzali, disguised as BLOCK member Yamate, infiltrated their ranks and sabotaged a polygraph test by injuring the esper Tetsumou, leading to the wrongful execution of another member. Despite these setbacks, BLOCK proceeded to hack into the Virus Isolation Center and Hikoboshi II's satellite center, intending to take down surveillance and spread false information about using its ground-attack laser to attack School District 13, creating a cover for larger plans involving a mercenary invasion.
As BLOCK prepared to move 5,000 mercenaries into Academy City, Etzali exposed their plan by destroying a parking garage and escaping through the sewers, triggering the arrival of powerful unmanned helicopters. The mercenaries were decimated, and Megumi convinced Tatsuhiko to retreat with the survivors. They regrouped at the Reformatory, where Block launched an assault to capture Awaki Musujime. There, they encountered GROUP members Tsuchimikado and Awaki. Tatsuhiko tried to use hostages to force cooperation, but tensions rose as Megumi objected to the tactic and ultimately knocked him out after a heated argument.
With Tatsuhiko unconscious, Megumi engaged Awaki in battle and was defeated. BLOCK's plan fell apart as their leadership crumbled and the hostages' purpose was nullified by Awaki's direct appearance. Tatsuhiko's defeat marked the collapse of Block's ambitions, leaving them vulnerable to capture and ending their rebellion against Academy City’s authority.
