The Tau Volantis Moon is the final boss of the 2013 video game Dead Space 3.
The Moon is a Necromorph and also a member of the Brother Moons network. It results from an incomplete Convergance event, the last step of the necromorph's evolution. It is responsible for the destruction and consumption of almost all life on the planet Tau Volantis, until the inhabitants of the planet were able to create a massive machine to freeze the creature, effectively putting it into hibernation.
Biography[]
Past[]
In the past, the alien civilization native to Tau Volantis discovered the Black Marker. Due to the Marker's abilities, the alien civilization began constructing numerous copies of it in the form of Red Markers. After an unspecified amount of time, a necromorph outbreak occurred, infecting a large amount of Tau Volantis' inhabitants. The biomass created by such an outbreak resulted in a "Convergence" event. Corpses and necromorphs were pulled into orbit by the Markers where they were assembled into a planet-like organism, the Tau Volantis Moon. The surviving aliens activated a machine which caused their planet to freeze to the point that the Moon ceased all activity.
Dead Space 3[]
After Jacob Danik deactivated the alien machine on Tau Volantis, the Moon was able to begin completing the Convergance Event it began long ago. After a lengthy final boss fight, Isaac Clarke was able to reactivate the machine, resulting in the Moon colliding with the surface of the planet.
Dead Space 3: Awakened[]
During the ending, Isaac and Carver arrive to earth. Upon communicating with a station there, they discover that the necromorphs have arrived on earth. Several Brethren moons are seen and it is believed that the Tau Volantis Moon contacted and activated them, prompting them to search for other civilizations to feed on.
