Mike Rochip, also known as the Techno-Pirate, is a minor antagonist in Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir, appearing as one of the two main antagonists (alongside Hawk Moth) of the television special Miraculous World: New York – United HeroeZ.
He is a New York-based supervillain intent on stealing technology, and one of the United Heroez' enemies. He is later Akumatized by Hawk Moth into Techlonizer, giving him the ability to replicate any form of technology. After his first defeat, Hawk Moth grants him the Eagle Miraculous, allowing him to become Miraclonizer and use the Miraculous' special power, Liberation, to free people of their inhibitions.
In the original French version, he was voiced by Asto Montcho. In the English dub, he was voiced by Kellen Goff, who also voiced Freddy Fazbear, Fredbear, Funtime/Molten Freddy, and the Daycare Attendant in the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise, Diavolo in JoJo's Bizarre Adevnture, Hans in Konosuba, Gouketsu in One Punch Man, Zagred in Black Clover, Fiddlesticks in League of Legends, the Abyss Herald in Genshin Impact, Rekka Hoshimiya in Fire Force, and Kai Chisaki in My Hero Academia.
Appearance[]
As Mike Rochip/Techno-Pirate[]
Mike Rochip/Techno-Pirate is a muscular man who has moderate opal-colored skin with patterns on it that resemble circuitry, moderate turquoise hair styled into a mohawk, and moderate aquamarine eyes. Being a prison breakout, he wears an orange prison outfit and gold cracked handcuffs.
As Techlonizer[]
As Techlonizer, his skin turns a moderate sapphire blue and his eyes are light cyan with dark cornflower blue sclerae. The circuit-like patterns on his skin are now light cerulean, and he wears an azureish white suit. He has several mechanical arms attached to his back, which he uses to clone and utilize technology. He has the number "1239" (his prison number) displayed on a small digital screen on his chest.
As Miraclonizer[]
As Miraclonizer, he has black skin and black eyes with yellow sclerae, and his hair and circuitry patterns are now white. He wears a yellow and black suit with white lines that has several rings on the stomach area, which is where he casts Liberation from. He also has huge yellow wings on his back which allow him to fly and an eagle-like beak atop his head. He wears the Eagle Miraculous necklace.
Personality[]
Techno-Pirate's personality seems to be that of the typical hardened criminal, being willing to steal any form of modern technology for himself and showing no mercy towards anyone who tries to stop him. Befitting his supervillain name, he talks like a stereotypical sea pirate, such as using the word "you" where "your" would be more grammatically correct.
Powers and abilities[]
As Techno-Pirate[]
Techno-Pirate has the ability to shut down any piece of technology just by touching it. He also has superhuman strength, as he is shown to be able to carry a plane turbine on his back.
As Techclonizer[]
Techlonizer has a set of mechanical arms attached to his back which he can use to clone any form of technology, including primitive ones such as cannons. The arms can also be used to attack his opponents.
As Miraclonizer[]
Miraclonizer has the same abilities as Techlonizer, but courtesy of the Eagle Miraculous, he also has access to a superpower called "Liberation", which allows him to remove any mental or emotional quality of a person that limits their potential, as well as wings on his back that allow him to fly.
History[]
Not much is known about Techno-Pirate's backstory from before the time of the special other than him being an escaped prisoner. He makes his first appearance attacking the plane that Marinette and Adrien's class is travelling to New York on, but is stopped and brought to the New York police by Majestia, Uncanny Valley, Knightowl and Sparrow, members of the American superhero team the United Heroez. However, while he is being transported by the police, Hawk Moth, who had also traveled to New York, takes the opportunity to Akumatize him. Hawk Moth offers Techno-Pirate the power to replicate technology in exchange for stealing Marquis de Lafayette's sword from the New York museum; although confused by why Hawk Moth would only want a sword, Techno-Pirate accepts, transforming into Techclonizer.
Techclonizer breaks into the museum, quickly stealing Lafayette's blade from its display. Jessica Keyes and Aeon transform into Sparrow and Uncanny Valley to stop him, although Techclonizer is able to steal Uncanny's android abilities, growing even more powerful. Marinette and Adrien join the battle as Ladybug and Cat Noir, and chase after Techclonizer as he escapes from the museum. With Techclonizer distracting the heroes, Hawk Moth takes the opportunity to steal Lafayette's necklace, the lost Eagle Miraculous. The heroes corner Techclonizer on a rooftop, who delights in the opportunity to get revenge on the United Heroez by destroying their proteges. He then tricks Cat Noir into using his Cataclysm on Uncanny Valley, killing her. As he smiles at his victory, a grief-stricken Majestia appears, punching Techclonizer into the distance for causing her daughter's death. Techclonizer survives the impact and is de-Akumatized and picked up by Hawk Moth. Although Ladybug is able to repair the damage Techclonizer caused with her Miraculous Ladybug, thus reviving Uncanny, she and Cat Noir are deemed dangerous by Knightowl and forced to retreat.
Hawk Moth brings Techno-Pirate to his penthouse, leaving him bound while he studies the Eagle Miraculous and its kwami, Liiri. Techno-Pirate demands to be freed, and Hawk Moth obliges by re-Akumatizing him into Techclonizer and granting him the Eagle Miraculous. Now transformed into Miraclonizer, he publicly surrenders himself to his enemies, intending to draw them out. Once the United Heroez (sans Uncanny and Sparrow) have surrounded him, he unleashes his power of Liberation, striking all of them. Miraclonizer uses his power to free the heroes of their moral and ethical limitations, causing them to go berserk and attack the city. At Hawk Moth's request, Miraclonizer broadcasts his image across Paris, demanding that Ladybug and Cat Noir hand over their Miraculouses before the city is destroyed.
While Uncanny rallies Ladybug and Cat Noir into action, Hawk Moth has Miraclonizer steal Victory's missile control console, threatening to launch a rocket and start a world war if Ladybug and Cat Noir refuse to surrender. Instead, Ladybug and Cat Noir, working with Uncanny and Sparrow, trick Doorman into teleporting them to Miraclonizer's hideout on the Statue of Liberty. Miraclonizer battles the heroes, only to be reverted back into Techclonizer by Ladybug stealing back the Eagle Miraculous and giving it to Sparrow, who becomes the heroine Eagle and stops the Liberation. Together, the heroes defeat Techclonizer and de-Akumatize him, reverting him back into Techno-Pirate. A confused Techno-Pirate is then apprehended by the police, unable to remember what had happened before he was Akumatized.
Trivia[]
- His real name is a pun on the word "microchip", fitting the villain's technopathic abilities.
