Teddy Beckersted is one of the two main antagonists (alongside his father Aguilla) of the 1986 comedy film One Crazy Summer.
He was portrayed by Matt Mulhern, who also portrayed Pete Bennett in Law & Order and Brad Kendall in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Biography[]
Theodore "Teddy" Beckersted is a teenager who comes from wealthy family, he along with father Aguilla live on the island of Nantucket. He is a mean teen who dates a woman named Cookie Campbell and drives a Ferrari. He likes to do his laps at his swimming pool to keep in shape. Teddy is known for being mean to the Stork twins, Clay and Egg Stork, mechanics who sometimes work on their vehicles. He is more abusive towards Clay.
Every year Teddy's grandfather would hold a race, a regatta to see if he and and his father are worthy of their wealth and if Teddy loses, his grandfather would take away everything they own. His father plans to take over the Eldridge house and demolish it to build a Lobster Log restaurant in that spot and build also Beckersted Estates. The house is currently owned by the granddaughter of Mr. Eldridge, Cassandra Eldridge. In the summer of 1986, Teddy would meet Hoops McCann and would become enemies. There first meeting is when he arrives at the dock to have Egg and Clay Stork take it to get tuned up and he would drive and cause Hoops to fall on his car by accident. Teddy goes nuts and Hoops touching his car and hangs Hoops on a fish hook.
When Teddy was doing his laps, his dad came to talk to him about the regatta and tells Teddy what would happen if he loses that he would have to go to work, a word Teddy dreads. Teddy tells his dad that is Cassandra does not make the mortgage payment of $3000 by Friday, he gets the house. Cookie, who sometimes is neglected by Teddy had an interest in Hoops and asks him to go with her to a movie and tells Hoops that Teddy is at a reception and nothing to worry about. At the drive-in, Ty, one of Teddy's friends sees Cookie with Hoops. Cookie takes Hoops to see a moonrise at the hills and would deal with some cbus scouts, Hoops and Cookie gets away and should would run into Teddy who picks her up near the road. Teddy runs into Hoops at the Dew Drop Inn, the bar where Hoops was supposed to meet up with Cassandra. Teddy was about to beat to Hoops, but Cassandra bets Teddy that Hoops is a better athelete. She challenges Teddy to a game of basketball, betting him $100. Teddy uses Ack Ack Ramond for a net, and use the rubber cover for the light post as a basketball. Teddy wins the game and is going to beat up Hoops, Cassandra tells him not to. Teddy asks "Why, do you know karate?", Cassandra responds "I know Dow", Teddy asks "What's Dow", Cassandra pulls out a can and responds "Dow is the chemical company that makes mace" and she sprays Teddy and his friends so Hoops, Ack Ack, Clay, and Egg can escape.
Teddy is told by Aguilla that Cassandra might be making some money. During that week when he was swimming, doing his usual laps, the Stork twins, Hoops, and George Calamari would steal a Lobster Log truck and dump lobsters in his pool and would end up pinching him and Cookie. Later on in the week, Cassandra would sing at the Dew Drop Inn and make the money to pay the mortgage. Teddy and his Dad arrive seeing they are too late, his grandfather is already there and enjoying Cassandra's singing. Teddy's dad would forclose on Cassandra, nearly taking over the house till the regatta. Teddy, who had Clay get his car worked on ending up hitting Clay, giving him a bloody nose and pisses off Egg. Egg would take out a chainsaw and do something with Teddy'a car. Teddy, along with Ty and a few of his other friends are at the regatta would race the others, including Hoops McCann, George Calamari, Ack Ack Raymond, and the Stork twins on a boat called "The Boat" would race some others, too. What teddy did not know that his father stowed away, hiding till he revealed himself and shot "The Boat" mast with his crossbow. Hoops manages to get it fixed. Aguilla does the does the same thing with the Australian boat and cause one man to nearly drown, Ack Ack saves the man from dworning. Aguilla tries to shoot The Boat's mast again and before Aguilla could shoot the mast again, he is thrown overboard by Squid operating a mechanical dolphin from a nearby movie set, as retaliation for when he kicked her beloved dog earlier.
Teddy and his crew make it to the engine marker and start the engine on his boat. Hoops blows the hatch on The Boat and it goes a lot faster than Teddy's and sees why, they have the engine of his car in their boat. Hoops and his friends celebrate the victory—they are awarded the prize, Squid's dog turns out okay (after giving birth to puppies), George hooks up with Cookie, and Ack-Ack wins his stern father’s approval for his heroics. Despite winning, Hoops offers the prize to Teddy if he spares Cassandra's house, but Teddy immediately backs out on his promise. However, Old Man Beckersted gives back the prize and spares Cassandra's house, stating he wasn't going to "put a dime" in the Beckersted Estates; he then drags Teddy away by his ear.
