Temperance is a supporting antagonist in the pilot episode of Glitch Production's horror comedy web series The Gaslight District. He is the virtue doctor and a former affiliate of Ken the Butcher. He is also the one who initially took care of Mel Hill when she first hatched from the human egg.
He is voiced by Belsheber Rusape, who also voiced Calvin "Freckle" McMurray in Lackadaisy and Ending in the English dub for My Hero Academia.
Biography[]
At some point in time, Temperance was recruited into joining the Virtues, whether by choice or by force, and became their doctor. He would tend to the Human Egg until the human, who would later be named Mel, hatched from it. At some point in time, Temperance ran into Ken the Butcher and would allow him to watch over Mel. The reasons for this is currently unknown.
Several years later, Temperance is seen experimenting on a strange creature within a giant egg. Whether it's an attempt at creating another Human Egg or a brand new monster is unknown. As he is working on his creation, Ken enters his laboratory, much to the surprise of Temperance. Ken throws his cleaver into Temperance's arm, who retaliates by throwing an angel at him. Ken knocks the angel onto the floor and picks it up before walking towards Temperance. The terrified doctor admits to not telling anyone about their secret, presumably that he gave Mel to Ken, and begs for his life. Ken mercilessly stabs Temperance with his angel and proceeds to tear him apart. Temperance tries to escape but his head, encasing his brain, is torn off by Ken. The butcher proceeds to eat Temperances brain, presumably to ensure that he doesn't revive himself. Ken then burns the laboratory to the ground with the creature still inside the egg, presumably killing it and erasing all of Temperance's hard work.
Trivia[]
- It is possible that Ken and Temperance first met when Ken was sentenced to the Inferno. Not only does he have a very in-depth description of what it's like, but Temperance is shown pulling out one of his ingrown toenails. Temperance might have saved Ken from eternal damnation and trusted him in watching over Mel.
- Despite this, the two seem not to have a good history together as Ken seemed genuinely angry when he was fighting Temperance and looked solemn when burning down his lab. This implies that Ken was killing Temperance not merely to clean up loose ends, but presumably out of a pressing need to keep his family safe.
- A tablet in the show, when translated, describes the process by which Rotlings are processed into the Inferno, involving a gunshot splitting the head, and that they can be taken out if they're proven innocent. Thus, it seems possible that Ken was framed and sent to the Inferno by Temperance, leading to his head getting split in two, but got released after he was proven innocent, hence his vendetta against him.
- The runes that appear in the impact frames when Ken throws his cleaver at Temperance describe betrayal, connections being severed, millennia of duty being destroyed and justice being served. Thus, it seems that Ken might've either been betrayed by Temperance, or severed a connection binding him to him in that moment.
- Despite representing the virtue of Temperance, he is killed in a way representing its contrasting sin, Gluttony, as he is eaten by Ken.
