The Temple Guardian is a supporting antagonist of the 2024 Roblox RPG game Block Tales, serving as a major antagonist of the game fourth chapter, Excavation Exploration.

It is a giant pharaoh head with it's main goal being to protect the Temple of the Red Sun. It tries to ambush and kill Captain Trotter, Calypso, and the player, only for it to be defeated and kill the rest of Captain Trotter's crew instead.

Appearance[]

Temple Guardian is a sandy, gritty, pharaoh head with a sculpted face. It's hands have the same sandy texture as the pharaoh head, except with a darker tone. It has four fingers and is most likely made of sandstone.

Biography[]

After obtaining the shovel from The Great Flocci, the player can dig under sand while also gaining access to a ladder. The player and Calypso climb the ladder to be met with Captain Trotter. In the room, there is a hieroglyph Captain Trotter is curious about and asks Calypso what it meant. Calypso states that it's just a hieroglyph hinting to a guardian of the temple. The three move forwards until they reach a bridge, where they are ambushed by the Temple Guardian, which breaks the bridge. This initiates a battle between the Temple Guardian and the player and Calypso with Captain Trotter falling in the background. After the player and Calypso defeat the Temple Guardian, the three fall in the Red Sun River Zone where the Temple Guardian and the rest of Captain Trotter's crew dies, making him slowly lose his sanity.

The Temple Guardian can be refought on the forty-eighth of The Pit alongside Fear. (previously Captain Trotter) However, this doesn't affect the storyline whatsoever.

Powers & Abilities[]

Head[]

  • The Ray of Ra: The Temple Guardian opens its mouth to charge up a beam and soon fires at all party members. Anyone who doesn't dodge this attack will be burnt for three turns.
  • Guardian Bite: The Temple Guardian moves in front of its selected target and bites them, applying Ankh effect on them for three turns.
  • Passives: The Temple Guardian disables the use of the SFOTH swords, is immune to damaging-induced items, (e.g.: the bombs or Mr. Batty) and remains invincible until both of its hands (and other allies when refought in the pit) are defeated.

Hands[]

  • Right Flick: The right hand will go in front of its target and then wind up to flick them.
  • Left Zooming: The left hand reels itself back and clenches into a fist before charging at all party members.
  • Passive: No damaging-induced items have any effect on the hands.

Trivia[]

  • Temple Guardian is similar to Slasher in some aspects.
    • Both appear as a silhouette at the start of their respective chapters, with both of the chapters having someone else as the true final boss.
    • Both are guardians.
    • Both ambush the player unexpectedly.
    • Both don't have any dialogue, but while the Slasher doesn't speak, the Temple Guardian technically speaks in illegible hieroglyphics.
  • The Temple Guardian may be inspired from the trope of a floating head and hands boss, which is commonly used in many other different games.
