The Ten Commandments (十戒, Jikkai) are major antagonists in the manga and anime series The Seven Deadly Sins. They are a formidable group of ten highly skilled warriors who stand at the pinnacle of the Demon Clan's strength. Personally chosen by the Demon King himself, each member possesses a Commandment「戒禁, Kaigon」, a unique power granted by the Demon King. This power inflicts a distinct curse upon anyone who violates a rule assigned to that member.
This authority is absolute and cannot be resisted, even by the one who wields it. However, the members of the Ten Commandments are only susceptible to the curse of their own Commandment, remaining immune to the effects of the others. The curses can be lifted either by defeating the wielder or upon the death of the victim. If the wielder agrees or becomes powerless—unable to fight or die—the Commandment can be removed from them.
Following the downfall of the Demon King and Zeldris's departure with Gelda, the Ten Commandments are formally dissolved.
Trivia[]
- Zeldris is the only Commandment not killed and the only one who ultimately remained an ally of the Seven Deady Sins, while the others were either killed or sealed off by Merlin after being defeated.
- Mael technically becomes an ally after being freed from his Estarossa personality and then from the grasp of the four Commandments by Gowhter.
- Derieri also became an ally when she decides to save Elizabeth from Estarossa, and later help her save Mael, but she would eventually fall as well.
- In flashbacks to the previous Commandments group, Estarossa is shown to be part of the group at a very young age, while Mael was already "very adult" when he suffered the forbidden spell of Gowther though it was most likely fabricated by spell here. Estarossa is shown as the former Commandment of Pacifism before Grayroad, which proves the unreliability in the flashback.
