Tengu is a bird-themed Minor Youkai who served the Youkai Army Corps and a minor antagonist in Ninja Sentai Kakuranger, serving as the main antagonist of the 12th episode.
He is voiced by the late Kazuhiko Kishino who previously played Hachi Mozoo in Dai Sentai Google V and later voiced Haust, Ballas, Seala, Gilom, Zolbas, Kaage, Zados, Jigura, Daryl also all in Changeman, Anger Brain, Sword Brain, Invisible Brain and Bomber Brain in Chouju Sentai Liveman, Mansion Bohma, Lump Bohma, Fossil Bohma, Immortality Bohma and Gunman Bohma in Kosoku Sentai Turboranger, the Golem Soldiers Dora Minotaur, Dora Cockatrice, Dora Endos and Dora Silkis in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger and later voices Mantis Nezilar in Denji Sentai Megaranger, Halleluyan in Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive and Blacksmith Org in Hyakuju Sentai GaoRanger.

Tengu first came to be when humanity's negative emotions physically manifested and formed thier own group under the leadership of the most powerful of thier kind; Daimaou. One thousand years ago, Tengu was among the army of Yokai who attacked Ninjaman whilst he defended a village. Tengu was evidently able to escape alive but Ninjaman was banished by the Three God Generals as he slaughtered his entire village after mistaking them for Yokai.
Tengu was ultimately among the Yokai who managed to avoid being sealed behind the Seal Door by the Ancient Kakurangers but was reduced to a human form when the Yo Power was sealed with Daimaou.
Kakuranger[]
By 1994, Tengu has evolved into a more human-like form by the time that the Yo Power is released by Kappa.
After the death of Shirouneri, Tengu is voted the third best Youkai so decides to kill the Kakurangers as that will automatically make him the best. To accomplish this, he approaches Professor Yugami with the idea to resurrect multiple defeated Youkai using humans as hosts. In doing so, he hopes to kill the Kakurangers and become the Number One Youkai. He has the Dorodoros kidnap six children and is first seen meeting with Yugamu and his Dorodoros to check on thier progress which he is pleased with. Using his sorcery, Tengu is able to brainwash an entire town into drones who he then sends to attack the Kakurangers before kidnapping a boy who is with the Kakurangers and luring them to a quarry where he and Yugami confront them. After revealing his plan to defeat them, Tengu has Yugami reveal the ultimate use of his invention; turning the children into more powerful replicas of Kappa, Mokumokuren, Nurikabe, Azukairai, and Oboroguruma to use in his army.
Tengu has the monsters attack the Kakurangers and they are easily overwhelmed but Tengu becomes impatient and enlarges both himself and his army to expedite the Kakurangers' deaths. The Youkai are overwhelmed by the Giant Beast Generals until Tengu points out that killing the Youkai will also kill the children which allows them to completely defeat the mecha. Forced out of thier giant forms and de-morphed, Tengu nearly kills the Kakurangers until they decide to throw the Doron Changer medals which grants them access to the Beast General Fighters. With thier new forms, the Kakurangers easily defeat the Youkai before forming Muteki Shogun which Tengu charges at but is immediately killed by the Blazing Shogun Sword. With Tengu dead, his sorcery that created the Youkai replicas vanish and they cease to exist with thier child hosts being fully restored.
Tengu is recalled by Professor Yugami to Keukegen alongside Kanedama as having fought and been defeated by the Beast General Fighters. He upgrades the monster under order of Gashadokuro and tells him to get revenge for the defeats of the previous two Youkai but he is killed anyway.
Tengu is recalled by the Announcer whilst recapping the Kakurangers' war against the Yokai during his feature on the Kakurangers.
Tengu is heard, along with all the other defeated Yokai, behind the Seal Door after Daimaou is finally sealed away by the Kakurangers. Reeling that they are now powerless in captivity, the Yokai all vow that they will one day be reborn and regain their power, cursing humanity.
Personality[]
Tengu is a violent and sadistic fighter willing to use children for his schemes and only wanting to become the most respected Youkai. He is also extremely petty since his only motive for his scheme is to become the most desired Youkai and show up Amikiri. However, he can be very courteous and pleasant towards his allies as seen when he met with Professor Yugami where he was completely amiable.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Durability: Tengu was unfazed by multiple punches to the face and gut from God Simidar.
- Expert Fighter: Tengu was able to fight and overwhelm Red Saruder with just his fan.
- Mind Control: Using his sorcery, Tengu is able to turn an entire town of people into drones who attack the Kakurangers.
- Longevity: Tengu survived for at least six thousand years with no side effects.
- Yokai Lightning Cloud Summoning: Tengu is able to summon the Yokai Lightning Cloud to enlarge himself and his Youkai army with its Yo Power.
- Eye Blasts: Tengu can fire pink energy blasts from his eyes that caused large explosions.
