The Tenome are a malicious type of yokai from Japanese folklore, while many yokai are dangerous and alien, the Tenome are particularly malicious and predatory - they are similar to vampires but feed on victims' bones rather than blood, it is said victims of the Tenome are thus left as nothing but a pile of skin, with the spirit magically consuming all the bones from their bodies.
History[]
Tenome are terrifying phantoms that resemble monks (or other holymen) but are hideously deformed, having no visible eyes until they reveal their palms - which is where their eyes are situated, they frequent roads and other lonely places during the hours of night and will pursue any who stray near in order to devour their bones.
The origins of these monsters vary from story to story, but a popular belief spread that it began long ago when a blind man was robbed and beaten by bandits, as he lay dying, he cursed the bandits and wished he could see their faces, his anger and anguish would transform him into a yokai after death and thus the first Tenome was "born".
Tenome are said to be nearly impossible to escape from as they have a number of supernatural abilities, including an amazing sense of smell that allows them to track down their victims no matter how hard they may seek to hide.
