Tentacle Monsters, also known as Tentacle Creatures and Tentacle Demons, are beings/creatures/monsters that possess several to many tentacles. They are featured in mythology/folklore, scifi and fantasy fictions, and most infamously erotic anime and manga.
History[]
Tentacle monsters have a decently long history, with the most infamous one, the Kraken, dating back to the 1700s. Another extremely famous one, Cthulhu, dates back to the mid 1920s. The erotic view of tentacle monsters (especially in relation to anime & manga) date back to the mid 1980s, probably stemming from the manga & anime Urotsukidōji.
Types[]
All tentacle monsters share the trait of having tentacles, but there are several different forms of them in existence:
- Cephalopodoid Form: These types are at least passingly similar visually to cephalopods(octopuses, squids, cuttlefish etc.). Kraken and the Martians fit into this grouping.
- Humanoid Form: These class of tentacle monsters have a humanoid appearance rather than a more standard cephalopodiod or alien form. Cthulhu is the best know member of this type. Mindflayers are another member.
- Weird Form: These are the most unique variety of tentacle monsters, ditching a humanoid or classic cephalopodesque form in favor of a more alien/eldritch/weird form such as an eye with tentacles or a mass of tentacles without a discernable owner. Members include Tentacles From Planet X and Sentinels.
Origins[]
Tentacle monsters, unlike many other monsters which typically all/nearly all come from a certain origin/place, i.e. demons from Hell or dragons from mountains/caves, come from varying locations. Such locations include the ocean(Kraken & Cthulhu), outer space(Martians & Regellians), other dimensions(Tentacles From Planet X), and some are even manufactured in factories(Sentinels).
Evil Deeds[]
The evil deeds commited by tentacle monsters include serial/mass murder (Kraken, Martians, & The Nameless Thing Of Berkeley Square), destruction of property (Kraken), mass sexual assault & rape (multiple hentai tentacle monsters), mind violation (Mindflayers, Sentinels, & Incubuses), and maneating (Martians).
