Terry Cruger is the main antagonist of the 1989 neo-noir film Sea of Love. Cruger is a serial killer of his wife Helen’s lovers, becoming more enraged when undercover detective Frank Keller starts a relationship with Helen.
He was portrayed by Michael Rooker, who also portrayed Henry in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, Merle Dixon in The Walking Dead, the title character in The Bone Collector, Lutador in Vivo, Jamie Yost in Law & Order, Savant in The Suicide Squad, Grant Grant in Slither, Vikke in Lollipop, and Yondu Odonte in the Guardians of the Galaxy film series.
Biography[]
Terry’s wife Helen had affairs with men in lonely hearts ads that rhymed, causing Terry to snap and start murdering them. Terry would force each man to strip and show how they had sex with Helen, shoot them in the backs of their heads while on their beds, and leaving vinyl records playing “Sea of Love” at the scenes. Keller, in spite of his alcoholism and divorce, gods undercover to find the woman in common, eventually meeting Helen.
After more meetings, he becomes defensive of her, refusing to give evidence of hers for processing and starting a relationship. He abuses her when he sees a starter’s pistol, and she’s horrified when she hears about his job. When Helen doesn’t admit to the crimes, Keller kicks her out in a drunken rage, only for Terry to break in and reveal himself as the killer. Attempting the same ritual on Keller to killer, Keller fights him and, when calling the police fails, pushes Terry out a window to his death. Keller, sober, reconciles with Helen and gets more serious with her.
