A desperate man is a scary thing. But what awaits him beyond that? Don't you see? Once an ordinary man conquers that wall... He must face a genius exactly as desperate as he. In this world, being "desperate" means relatively little. So welcome to our world.
~ Teruko Ōkura to Sigma.

Teruko Okura is one of the major antagonists of the manga and anime series Bungo Stray Dogs. She is the vice-captain of the most powerful military unit, the Hunting Dogs, who possesses a special ability to manipulate age, which is the main reason why she is feared by her allies and enemies.

She is voiced by Makoto Koichi in the Japanese version, and by Cherami Leigh (who also voices Kyouka Izumi) in the English version of the anime.

Appearance[]

Being the smallest member of the Hunting Dogs, Teruko has a default appearance of a little girl with red wavy hair styled into a left-side ponytail with a purple ribbon. She wears the standard uniform of the Hunting Dogs, although her hat is styled sideways to make room for her hairstyle.

During the activation of her ability on herself, Teruko has 2 transformations so far:

  • an adult woman with a taller stature and longer, undone hair
  • an old lady with wrinkles and short hair

Personality[]

Despite her usual appearance of a little girl (as assumed by the regular military police), Teruko is an aggressive and hot-tempered individual infamously known for intimidating people with her bloodthirst and violent tendencies that involve her ability, earning the alias as "The Queen of Bloody Thorns". In terms of interrogation, Teruko has a habit of using her ability on her victims to accelerate their ages rapidly with fear. Being the vice-captain of the Hunting Dogs, she takes pride in her role as she was more than willing to give up her body to be surgically modified, in order for her to proudly fight with her enhanced strength for the sake of others.

In contrast to her aggressive and intimidating side of her character, Teruko also tends to act childish such as wanting a piggyback from Michizo Tachihara, and she has an abnormal obsession with her captain Ōchi Fukuchi.

Ability[]

Gasp of the Soul - Teruko possesses the ability to manipulate age (either reversing or accelerating it) on anyone she touches, including herself. Due to this, she is feared by her allies and many enemies due to how insanely powerful her ability is. In addition, Teruko's ability is well-suited for interrogation on criminals, as she tends to psychologically torture them by rapidly aging forward until they develop illnesses and maladies normal to old people. However, she is able to age them back to normal once they answer her. Aside from using her ability as a means of interrogation, Teruko also uses it for disguises (an old lady, for example) and enhancing her strength further by turning into an adult.

Trivia[]

  • Her birthday is on April 12.
  • Due to being a mystery novelist, her real-life counterpart was nicknamed "the Japanese Christie" by Ranpo Edogawa.
  • Unlike all of the members of the Hunting Dogs, Teruko does not usually wear a cape, although she is seen wearing it on her official character art and Season 4 Episode 10.
  • Teruko was 12 years old during the Great War.
