Tess Shoemacher is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Yellow Jacket) of the Freeform TV Series Beyond.
She was portrayed by Erika Alexander.
Biography[]
Tess Shoemacher is the CFO of the religious cult organization, Hollow Sky. She tasks Yellow Jacket with kidnapping Holden Matthews and has him murder Holden's friend Kevin McArdle. She blackmails Charlie to aid Hollow Sky, by threatening the life of her younger sister. Upon capturing Holden, Yellow Jacket meets with Shoemacher, who sends him to hunt down Charlie next.
She arranges for Isaac Frost and Holden to go into The Realm together as Frost wishes and oversees the transaction. Frost ends up trapped in The Realm, keeping him in his comatose state, but Holden is able to return. Kevin's brother, Jeff, arrives holds Shoemacher at gunpoint, intent on killing her to avenge his brother's death, but he decides to spare her and leaves with Holden. Shoemacher is left to look after Isaac Frost in his comatose state
Shoemacher is diagnosed with cancer and starts on chemo pills. She continues to run Hollow Sky while Frost is in his coma. Unlike Frost, she shows that she doesn't care about Hollow Sky's mission and uses her position of power to run a scam where she promises people access into The Realm to reunite with their deceased loved ones, when instead, she traps people in comas and cryogenically freezes them in exchange for their money.
Yellow Jacket begins hunting her down to kill her due to her treachery against him. Shoemacher hires Yellow Jacket's mentor Richard to kill him, but Yellow Jacket ends up killing Richard and tracking down Shoemacher who he confronts. In exchange for her life, she allows him take a position of management in Hollow Sky. Yellow Jacket voices his disapproval of the scam that Shoemacher is running.
Supposed FBI agent, Gale Borden, goes to Tess Shoemacher's home with her crew and takes Shoemacher prisoners. Borden reveals herself to be a woman named Eleanor Kurtz, who is after the technology that will allow her access into the realm. Shoemacher goes with Kurtz and her men to Hollow Sky's base, where Yellow Jacket arrives with Ramon and his crew of henchmen. Yellow Jacket and Kurtz engage in a shootout with each other and Shoemacher takes the opportunity to flee. Yellow Jacket and Ramon later escape with at comatose Frost, who wakes up, Shoemacher's ultimate fate remaining unknown.
Personality[]
Tess Shoemacher is a greedy, conniving, wicked, and calculating individual who lacks morals. Unlike Isaac Frost and Yellow Jacket, she is shown to not truly care about Hollow Sky's mission, instead only caring about the money and her position of power. As cruel and remorseless as she is, Shoemacher is shown to genuinely care for her wife and unborn daughter. Even when diagnosed with cancer, she continues her crimes without showing remorse.
