Tetsuo Tamashiro is a major antagonist in the game Yakuza 3. He is the patriarch of the Okinawa-based Tamashiro Family, a distant branch of the Tojo Clan. He is constantly in conflict of the Ryudo Family, and by extension their ally Kazuma Kiryu.
He was voiced by the late Unshō Ishizuka.
Appearance[]
Tamashiro is a very well dressed man, wearing a red suit with a black undershirt. He has a golden chain around his neck. Tamashiro is believed to be in his early fifties, and has wrinkles and stress lines that come from age. He wears sports glasses and has slicked back brown hair.
Personality[]
Tamashiro has a vile, loathsome personality. He is shown to care very little about the lives of innocent people. He's also incredibly abusive and manipulative, doing things like seducing Saki's mother only to reject her offer and almost kill her.
Biography[]
Tamashiro first appears in 2008, where he and his goons attack the Ryudo Family patriarch Shigeru Nakahara, kidnapping his adopted daughter Saki in the progress. Rikiya Shimabukuro, the captain of the family, enlists the help of Kazuma Kiryu to save her. After Kiryu storms the Tamashiro Family Office, Tamashiro pulls a blade and the two have a fight. Kiryu handily wins, humiliating Tamashiro and forcing him to give up Saki.
Tamashiro returns with his family in 2009 due to Yoshitaka Mine's support and begins to exact his revenge towards Kiryu and the Ryudo Family by demolishing Morning Glory Orphanage, leaving Kiryu and his family homeless. To add fuel to the fire, he goes to the Ryudo Family office and attacks Aragaki Mikio, a kind-hearted member of the family, and kidnaps Nakahara.
Tamashiro throws Nakahara into a bull pen, planning to have him be gored. Kiryu and company arrive too late to jump in the arena to save him, but the previously mute Saki screams to him, giving him the motivation to take on the bulls. This enrages Tamashiro, who orders his men to kill everyone in sight. Kiryu stands against the family and defeats every last one of them, saving Tamashiro for last.
Although Kiryu wins the battle, Tamashiro pulls a gun on him in an attempt to end the Dragon of Dojima. However, Rikiya shields Kiryu from the gunfire and takes the bullet, ending his life as he slowly dies in Kiryu's arms. Tamashiro laughs, having mortally wounded the young man, and prepares to fire another shot. Before he can shoot, however, Joji Kazama shoots him in the temple, severing his brainstem and ending his reign of terror over Okinawa forever.
Trivia[]
- Tamashiro is one of two bosses to be shot in the head by Joji Kazama, the other being Lau Ka Long. Unlike Tamashiro, Long is revealed to have survived the bullet in Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
- Tamashiro and Rikiya's deaths are complete inverses of each other: Rikiya dies a hero and surrounded by loved ones, while Tamashiro is shot in the head after failing again and dies hated by those near him.
- Tamashiro's office returns in Yakuza 4, where Kiryu fights another unanimously loathed character: Saito the Prison Guard.
- Tamashiro is often regarded as one of the most hated characters in the franchise due to his habit of committing vile actions with no remorse, as well as killing the fan favorite Rikiya.
- Tamashiro does not have a boss theme in either fight with him, but his family, fought right before him in the bull cage, have their own theme, entitled Pure Malice.
