|~ Tex to Cliff|
Charles Denton "Tex" Watson Jr. is the main antagonist of the 2019 comedy-drama film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He is based on the real life murderer of the same name.
Much like his real-life counterpart, Tex was a member of a cult known as the Manson Family, which was run by the titular leader Charles Manson.
He first appears when another member of the Manson Family, Pussycat , brings stuntman Cliff Booth to their ranch, and introduces the two to each other. After another cultist, "Clem", slases Cliff's tire, Cliff proceeds to beat him and force him to replace it. Tex is summoned to deal with the situation, but by the time he arrives, Cliff has already driven off.
He reappears in the third act, where he, along with three other cultists (known as "Katie", "Flower Child", and "Sadie"), are in a car outside the house of Rick Dalton (the film's protagonist), plotting to kill actress Sharon Tate (who lives next door to Rick). Rick, annoyed with the noise, goes outside and yells at them, causing them to back the car away from the street. They recognize Rick from his TV show, Bounty Law, and recall the amount of violence on the show. They then change their plans, and decide to murder Rick instead, in order to "kill the people who taught them to kill". However, as they head toward his house, Flower Child abandons them and takes the car.
Tex, Sadie, and Katie break into Rick's house, only to find Cliff, who is high on acid. Cliff, remembering them, orders his dog, Brandy to attack Tex. Cliff and Brandy proceed to brutally kill Tex and Katie, while Rick uses a flamethrower to burn Sadie alive.
- Tex's fate in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood differs greatly from his fate in the real world:
- In the movie, Tex alters his plans to kill Sharon Tate and chooses to murder Rick Dalton instead. However, in real life, Rick Dalton does not exist, so Sharon Tate was in fact murdered by the Manson Family.
- In the movie, Tex is killed by Cliff and Brandy, while in real life, he's still alive to this day.
