Thana (surname unknown) is the protagonistic villain of the 1981 infamous rape-and-revenge film Ms .45, also known as Angel of Vengeance. Thana is a wordless seamstress and a rape victim twice in one night, the rape trauma driving her to murder in the interest of vigilantism against men.
She was portrayed by the late Zoë Lund.
Biography[]
Thana is raped in an alley by a masked pervert on her way home from work, the rapist getting away, then raped again at gunpoint by a burglar in her own apartment when she returns home. After Thana bludgeons the burglar to death, she cuts up his remains and leaves them in her bathtub. Thana's boss with a pension for workplace sexual harassment, Albert, tears an outfit off a mannequin, resulting in Thana's traumatized reaction getting her the day off early. Thana, who has the burglar's remains in trash bags in her fridge, decides to scattered the carnage across New York City. The burglar's blood and guts clog her drain, and she has a psychotic episode of being groped by a vision of the masked rapist at large before she gets in the shower.
Thana throws out one bag, but a man watching her approaches her under the pretext of trying to give the bag back, assuming she lost it. She runs, fearing that stranger will also rape her, shooting him point-blank in is head with the burglar's pistol when she's cornered in an alley. Thana runs back home and vomits, while her landlady, Mrs. Nasone, approaches after watching Thana's changes and offers a doctor. When Mrs. Nasone's dog Phil smells in the fridge, Thana has them both leave. Albert makes a pass at Thana while touching her neck, offering to bring her to a company Halloween party as a pretext when he sees she's suffering at work, but not caring about the reason. Thana halfheartedly agrees by writing on paper her response, but in the meantime, she continues to dispose of the remains, which the media obsesses over.
Thana dons lipstick and a black cloak, becoming a vigilante of the night who shoots men to avenge herself. She shoots a fashion photographer trying to manipulate her into a vulnerable position, then a pimp wailing on a woman he's prostituting. When she's nearly gang-raped by a group of thugs in a courtyard, she shoots them all too. Thana escalates to killing a Saudi businessman and his chauffeur, then harasses a salesman who's grieving from a breakup to suicide. Thana's murders are typically extremely excessive, almost if not unloading the full ammunition of the gun into each victim. Albert uses Thana's work absenses as blackmail to make her promise to attend the party. When Phil keeps going for the burglar's remains, she kidnaps him and abandons him in a park.
Thana puts on lipstick and a nun costume for the party, but Mrs. Nasone finds the burglar's head and calls the police. When Albert nearly sexually extorts Thana, she shoots him, along with other men attending as guests at the party. Co-worker Laurie stabs a knife into Thana's back, and instead of shooting her, Thana screams "sister" before she falls and dies. Mrs. Nasone holds a service for her recently departed husband, as well as for Phil since she assumes he's dead. However, Phil returns and scratches at the widow's apartment door to be let back inside.
