That Man also known by his real name Shirogane is the main antagonist in Japanese horror thriller tv series, Gannibal in 2022, based on the manga of the same name.
He is a son of Goto clan matriarch Gin Goto and the son of the village priest Masamune. Gin Goto turned him into a cannibal as her tool of revenge and domination over the Kuge village. Eventually, the hereditary unstable genetic makeup of the Kashihabe gene within Shirogane finally caused him to succumb to a mutated form of Kuru as protein sequence misfolds. Gin forced and indoctrinated the villagers to worship him as a new mountain God of the village. He is also the father Keisuke who is born as a result of him raping Ai Goto, Keisuke's mother.
He is portrayed by Kazuki Sawai.
History[]
In 1949, That Man or his real name, Shirogane, is the son of Gin Goto and Masamune. Gin Goto and Masamune are in love at their teen age. Gin was not part of Goto Family in blood but she is accepted because of her beauty and for lust by men. She and Masamune, a priest's son, start their relationship and intimate secretly until Gin killed a villager who tries to kill her because of her history as a bad luck for Kuge Village. Masamune tries to stop the man till Gin saw her chance and kills him. Before that, Gin confess to Masamune that she is pregnant with a child but did not sure either that is his child or other man she has been sleeping with. However, Masamune believes that is his and named the child, "Shirogane". The priest and villagers found them and decided to sacrifice Gin to Kurunomaki, a god worshipped by Kuge villagers during festival. Gin's mother was once sacrified to make the village get a good life. They leave Gin in a spot where they believed she would be starved to death. But somehow, Gin is approached by Kashibe and his clan. Kashihabe, a man who Gin known for his cannibalism, released her.
In 1952, Shirogane grow up, fed by his mother with human flesh which she get by killing the villagers they encounter in the forest as she exact her revenge upon them.
Personality[]
That Man is a lonely old man who lives like a wild animal in the forest. The Goto Family is mostly afraid with him and symbolized him as their protector and even as a god incarnation. They worship and feed him with human flesh. They will sacrifice a child to him during the celebration of a festival in Kuge Village. He is 75 years old. He does not seems to be able to talk like a normal person although he has the mind of a child as he only can say a single word, "Mom.". To some, That Man is infected by a mutated form of Kuru disease as the result of unstable genetics from his ancestor's practice of cannibalism. Masamune admire him has become a true god for overcome the disease.
Indeed, he is viciously stronger and faster than normal human beings. In season 2 episode 1, he can dodge a bullet when Daigo shoots him with a revolver. He lift and throw Daigo with his one hand and chase him down, without feeing exhausted. Even though, he is not an evil type but he is who he is and what he is. It is the way of he has been raised, trained and used by his mother to make Goto Family stronger.
Appearance[]
That Man appears to be a mummified old man, standing over 2 meters tall with long white hair and beard. His skin is pale. He wears a long trench coat. He seems wild and inhumanly scary with white eyes. He uses a sickle as his main weapon.
Fate[]
In the last episode of season 2, That Man is shot in the head by his son, Keisuke, the current head of the Goto Family with his shotgun. Somehow, That Man still got up to his feet, move toward and look Keisuke face to face. He holds his face and remember the last moment of him witnessing his mother, Gin, dies in front of him after getting stabbed by the vengeful villagers. Feeling disgusted of what kinds of monster he has became under Gin's influence, he committed suicide by plucking his own brain and ate it. All the Goto family members who were there approach him and pay their tribute to his death and admired him as their true god. But somehow, Iwao Goto, who also survived a headshot by Agawa, mocked That Man and refused to believe him as a god but only just assuming he is just an old man who survived for so long. Iwao then took a piece of his flesh and eat it. As a result, he turn into a zombified monster like That Man after the protein sequence in his body gives in and mishapes.
