The Addiction is the main antagonist of the game Afraid of Monsters. He is a dark and messed up form of David Leatherhoff, which controls him throughout the story as he goes through multiple overdoses. He appears in a secret ending which you can get by following some specific steps.

Appearance

The Addiction looks exactly identical to David Leatherhoff but there are other distinctive features. The face is pale white and the eyes are completely dark, as if there aren't any eyes at all. His clothes are more dirty and messed up as he constantly is in a position of having both of his arms crossed and holding his shoulder as he stalks David.

Biography

When David gets access to a more twisted version of the Markland Hotel, he walks through it and sees multiple messages, depicting his life and so wise, he looks at the mirror which has a note saying "No, not the innocent. The enemy!". The Addiction walks through the mirror and starts chasing David. David(which is the player's reaction) will immediately shoot at the Addicton, but they soon find out that they only hurt themselves while attacking the addiction. David continues running away from The Addiction until he enters a room with a spear in it. David uses the spear and after a long time, kills The Addiction, which leads to different outcomes.

Tactics to use against The Addiction

• The Addiction is immune to every type of damage you can deal. Handguns, shotguns, rifles and other weapons won't work and, in fact, they'll damage the real David instead. The only weapon that actually damages the Addiction is the Spear.
• Every once in a while, the Addiction will pull out an Axe from its chest, and will proceed to stalk towards David to attack him with an overhead strike. After enough damage to The Addiction has been inflicted, it will hide the Axe in it's chest again.
• The Addiction is capable of striking David with a thunderbolt. Listening for the initial rumble and then jumping just before the bolt strikes will ensure it misses.
• When its health is low enough, The Addiction will ignite itself, damaging David unless he dives back into the water and waits until the flames go out.
